How would you describe "average American people"?
Where I live, we are average American people.
I drive one for work (26 gal/day) one for hauling needed stuff (18 mpg), and one for running around(avg. 23 mpg). Good nuff??
The average American person has to economize as much as possible now. Fuel is our largest bill. BTW, we are self-employed and sucking wind.
You can't put us all in the same frame.

No and I'm not, that's why I asked. Here's what I see we have people as yourself who need to use trucks for work and would like to have better fuel economy, correct? Than we have people like the democrats who want to drive better fuel efficient cars, they don't see what they want either so they buy foreign cars as the Toyota, Honda's, I'm sure they would prefer American made car if it had the same reliability and reputation.
Why can't these two issues be resolved because they can be very easily.

The car companies are very capable of making biodiesel/electric efficient trucks. They don't because they want us to be oil dependent and less efficient. Why do you think they canned the EV 1 car.
I use to drive a Isuzu Rodeo, for the money it was a great little suv, found out they make it as a diesel, just not here in the states, why do you think that is? Also had a Mercedes diesel great car could take me from the coast to the mountains about 350 miles on about half a tank of gas. So where are the cars like that made here in America...they're too efficient.

I would have to look into that. I don't doubt it though.

You are right there!! I have had 1 Chevy van in the last 10 years. It lasted less than 300,00 miles.
Ford. Different story. The last one we traded in had about 800,000 on the factory drive train. Ford makes good trucks.
You are right though, if America can't keep up, we will be out of business.
GOVERNMENT.......

We will need a lot of that if things continue as they have.

I reread your post. Now I'm not sure how to take it.
In my opinion, being conservitive is not a political thing as much as it is how you are wired. You know...I get so tired of the lablels. I am just me. Why should I carry water for any political mindset? One way or the other? I just want to be let be!! I will handle my business!!

I see your age group correlation, I might differ in opinion in the median spread, but believe your on the right track, I for one see hope in this new generation.

I would add one observation. Geography may play a part in vehicle choice. Many of the conservative individuals live in more "rural" areas with differing roads and weather conditions which may account for the need of larger, more sturdy vehicles. A hybrid is not going to deal well with adverse weather, etc. In point of fact, even in urban areas, the hybrid is going to be the last car to travel during adverse weather. I can make such a statement as our three neighbors with hybrids always are the last out in bad weather. They always have to wait.

Here is my angst with their stupid MPG advertisement, they always quote Highway MPG. I recall reading some time ago the average commuting distance is between fifteen to thirty miles. Why would you care about highway MPG as opposed to city? All they do is use bait to get you in.

Also I am tired of buying expensive disposable items such as vehicles. What is the point in buying a $40,000 vehicle that when it breaks down, you have to pay greater than $500 to fix. That is just stupid. I wish they would start building products that are built to last. Like, we have a 1976 Chevy Impala that is still running. We had to park it because of gas prices, but it still runs like a Champ. My mom, bought a 1989 Ford Tempo, that died three years after she bought it. Newer is not always better. We really need to do something about that.

I custom build my Ford trucks, 4X4 standard shift, and carb & points. EMP proof! Fixable with a screwdriver and pliers! No tow to the dealer, $750 charge for checking out the computer, then $3000 for a simple repair?? Also, think, No GPS constantly reporting your every movement to the government! Or listening to any conversation held in the car? There is a p**********l directive requiring ALL American vehicles to have a computer brain receiving a coded signal, to "Clear memory" in other words if your car in newer than 1986 it can be shut off at the government's will! What do you think will happen when Obama STARTS MARTIAL LAW??? A lady I know just ran INTO A SQUIRREL, over $2000 damage to the (completely plastic) bumper and grill! What do you think will happen to you when you get hit by a truck?? You pay the price when the environmentalists order every car to get 50 MPG.
