First, I will say glad the Intl. is still making trucks. When I was in biz, I used 2 boom trucks and a flatbed, done by Intl and was happy with all 3, good basic, get the job done trucks. Also had couple f350 with flatbeds which were handy as could be..

But to get to you point, I have not kept up with requirements, but think you are exaggerating..
No way will 50mpg happen or expect to happen by next year, and no way will we see 99% reduction in exhaust this year. some is talking BS to you.. Know nothing of what Calif is doing so I cannot comment.. Computer Ignitions? know nothing..

I still have one 1700 IH with the 4/8 V8 diesel, Huge V8 diesel that converts to run on 4 cylinders at low load! 940 Cu Inches! I am converting it to 4X4 with axles and t***sfer cases from a 1700 Power and Light truck that I used for about 16 years, Until it rusted out! Now the Coleman Axles are a bolt-on fit, to the newer one! It has a flatbed dump body with stake sides! And will have enough power to haul my lowboy and dozers up those Wv hills! It's k*****g one of my F350's. In the past I had several Scouts, a Travel all, and two 1 ton pickups. I'm sorry they quit making the smaller ones, But glad they are still in business! Our garbage dept just bought new (supposedly) natural gas trucks, and predictably, one blew up and caught fire, burning down a small apartment building! The Sheriff dept has had mixed experience with LP powered vehicles! After working on them for years, I h**e to see American trucks phased out, but Obama's crooked, c*******t appointees have ordered it! And the c*******t led environmentalists concur! Cat made the majority of the independent truck engines in America the past few years! Now they say it isn't worth the trouble to TRY TO KEEP UP with the new rules EVERY DAY! We can still get parts, but soon all of the old ones will be banned from the roads by the DOT, "in order to comply with the EPA rules". The liberals can defend Obama and the democrats as much as they want, but.......they are destroying our economy! Making America into a third world country! And giving it away! The libs can see what is being done to us, but still lie and deny!

For your benefit, so as to keep you from looking so ignorant, the EPA has field workers who do go out and "get their hands dirty." After that, many come in to do the paperwork. I'd call that anything but lazy. I think you can use another definition of bureaucrat also.

For your enlightenment: I have met two of those "field workers" ignorant, arrogant, and overbearing! And As a lobbiest I have met MANY bureaucrats! And found less than 1% interested in doing their jobs! But ALL defended their "Positions" most gotten , not from qualifications, but from connections! In a job, you WORK, in a position, you play golf, go on junkets, spend taxpayers money, and social climb, Stab them in the back, steal their job, take the credit for your underlings' ideas, and have a scapegoat ready if you are exposed! A college education in "cover your ass" helps, only if you join frats and make connections! THIS COUNTRY CAN GET ALONG WITH MUCH FEWER BUREACRATS! about 99% less! AND NO PUBLIC EMPLOYEE UNIONS!

Standard cab, extra cabs have the longer beds,, but the popular crewcabs use the same frame and take up bed space. The standard and xcabs have been taken mostly over due to dual use tow/seating and everyday driving of the crewcab. Before the crew often one would also have a car.

Thank you Jack. At last, a non-attack! I can understand the crewcab's giving away bed space but I still don't understand those pickups with standard cabs having less.

I'm not looking to compete and I'm glad I never have to do the sort of jobs discussed. Isn't there some sense in cutting down the number of cylinders if the truck is not going to be used in construction? Having more than what you need is a waste of gas and money. I'm sure that every one I see on the road is owned by someone in construction.

I don't have a "pickup" personality (don't misinterpret that) and I used my little 4 cyl. not only for moving purposes (and it saved me a lot of money) but to also take all the tables, frames, and my products to get me to trade shows. I sure as heck miss it.

Thanks again for the information.

You sound so frustrated! In my business I'm also "required" to do the social things. Believe me, many of them very well could be considered "work." Remember, these workers many times do not "get off at 5 pm." It often entails giving up weekends to be with one's family. In most cases I would have preferred to take care of my other responsibilities. You must have led an absolutely awful existence.

I agree that we could do with few bureaucrats. OR do I detect a bit of jealousy?
