I'm really glad my grandmother gave me her books, some date back to 1865, I find them a fascinating look into what life was like for my ancestors. My brother and sister wanted the books because they thought they might be worth a lot of money. One series of the books are the Chautauqua books that they used to train teachers. Many of my relatives consider me a dinosaur because I don't live for technology. I'll use it, but I don't let it rule my life. I could survive in a low tech world, but I question if these millenials could.

I know. One of the things that preserved a lot of the old ways was scouting, both boys and girls, and THAT has been completely destroyed over the past 30 years. Even science classes, I can remember making tallow candles and learning how to grow things from seeds (like avocados), my kids had little of that, and my grandchildren none

I taught my children to shoot. Started with a bb gun hunting the dread and viscous pop cans. Both boys served in the Army. My daughter was a better shot than her brothers. She used to hunt rabbits and squirrels with her .22 rifle and deer with her grandfather's .25-06. My granddaughter wanted me to teach her how to use the deer rifles. She was too young then and the guns were much bigger than she was, but I did work with her on the basics with squirt guns and dart guns. I tried to teach them stealth. They never could sneak up on me, but I could always sneak up on them.

You go, Kickaha!! I always tell my kids, and my grandchildren, "Ah, I taught you everything you know. I did not, however, teach you everything that I know"

Wow, you're sick. Those who gravitate toward law enforcement are those with a desire for a job with good benefits and pension and who have a strong desire to help people.

Looks good on paper.
The fact that Law Enforcement no longer seeks out the higher educated of the bunch who just want to help.
They have lowered their passing test scores. Along with the psychological standards that at one time were important. , are no longer important.
Security would use 2 types of dog. Dobermans and variations of the German Shepherds.
The two were opposite , both good for security.
The Shepherds were cautious and thought before they leaped.
The Dobes had Way much shorter fuses.
Rarely used anymore.
So, Law Enforcement today is similar to hiring security dogs.
They both want to do a good job, only one matches the law enforcement of today.

The way many on the right (and the center also) saw it Trump represented a change from the status quo. We had seen too much of condescending politicians (both sides) basically telling us we aren't smart enough to run our own lives. Trump represented someone who would fight for us and not just roll over when someone disagrees with him. I'm sure all of us would like to see him give twitter a rest or at least not be so boorish in his posts.

I understand that, I really do, at one point I thought of him as a possibility, then he kept talking, lol. But and entrepreneur can be just like a politician and visa versa, as we've seen, I don't know which is more dangerous to the public. All I do know is that when one acquires the sk**ls of both we're the ones who get screwed.

For what? I taught my kids and teach my grandchildren a lot. But a lot of young people have the attitude of "We have the internet". If they were suddenly without it I cant imagine what would happen to them.....

Easy, not judging here, you were commenting they weren't getting enough time being taught.

Are you purposely being obtuse? The comment was made regarding millenials. I expanded on it. I'm not talking about children in my purview, I'm talking about past things that helped children learn self reliance and responsibility, and a feeling of competence.

Not around here where they pay regular cops more than high school principals. Every two years 30,000 people take the test for 150 openings. The test is 400 questions long: 100 general knowledge, 300 psychological. I don't know who they desire to hire but I'm pretty sure they are getting what they want.
