My daughter spoke better by the second or third grade, and had a far better vocabulary. She took p***e in using new words, trump's got old halfway through the first year, and he still runs the same rhetoric at his pep rallies.

Now...let me be perfectly clear

You mean like that?

I hear ya woody

Some are bad, some aren't.
In my case, it was the drink I ordered and the alcohol used in it that was the deciding factor.

A man who likes Whiskey will be attacked for it. Ulysses S. Grant was constantly being stabbed in the back by weasels during the Civil War for his drinking. Lincoln told the weasels to find out what brand of whiskey Grant drank so he could send barrels of it to his other generals, whom he considered to be failures.

I just finished reading Grant takes Command which deals with Grant during 1863-1865. The Union Army was so riddled with politics and incompetence that it was a miracle it won the war. When a Commander did well he could count on jealous rivals in the army to sabotage him. Lincoln put up with so much crap and somehow came out on top.

He desperately needed a general who would actually fight. Most of them in the east would march down to Virginia against Lee and come back with their tails between their legs. General Meade beat Lee at Gettysburg, but that was a defensive victory. Lincoln needed an attacking general. Grant was the first general that kept on offense no matter what.

When Grant met Lincoln, the President knew he finally had the right general. When Grant finally went after Lee so many of his plans were ruined by incompetent subordinates. However, Grant had a strategy that in the end overcame all obstacles. Even his failures had an overall effect on pushing Lee into collapse.

All the while, his brother Union Officers wrote letters to Lincoln and to Congress complaining the Grant was drunk or had no idea what he was doing.

US Grant is one of America's great leaders. His perseverance in the face of pervasive corruption and incompetence all around him, saved the Union. Grant was the one Military man that President Lincoln 100 % trusted. All others let him down. Lincoln didn't even want to know Grant's plans. Only that Grant was sure they would work. Grant was the first general not to complain to Lincoln that he needed more of everything. Grant made due with wh**ever he had.

I am now getting back into Grants personal memoirs which I put aside to Finish " Grant Takes Command. Grant, besides being a good general is a very readable author. Just now I am reading his account of his experiences in the Mexican-American War.

While he was justifiably proud of his actions and the actions of the US Army and it's generals, he was critical of the reason for the war. He felt that the Civil War was America's punishment for fighting that earlier war. His descriptions of the people and terrain of Mexico in the 1840s are enlightening.

Grant had left the army and was trying to sell wood to feed his family at the beginning of the civil war. At the end of the war he was the Commanding General. Grant is one of the greatest and most interesting personalities in our history.
