What’s the difference between a conservative and a progressive?

No. 1: Conservatives and progressives have different views about individuals and communities.

Conservatives ask: “What can I do for myself, my family, my community, and my fellow citizens?”

Progressives ask: “What is unfair?” “What am I owed?” “What has offended me today?” “What must my country do for me?”

The traditional American ethic of achievement gives way to the progressive ethic of aggrievement.

As opposed to a variety of individuals making up one American community, progressives seek to place individuals in a variety of competing communities. The first creates unity. The second, identity politics.

No 2.: Conservatives and progressives have different views about diversity and choice.

For progressives, different ethnicities and g****r identities are welcomed but a variety of opinions and ideas are not.

Just look at two areas of public life dominated by the left. On college campuses free speech is under attack. If you’re a conservative working at a social media company or using one of their platforms to share your views, you may find your job eliminated or your account deleted.

And when it comes to choice, progressives love the word, but they don’t want it to apply to our decisions on education, health care, and even how and where we live out our religious faith.

Conservatives take a different approach.

Parents, not the zip code they live in, should choose the school that is best for their child.

We all need health care, but we don’t all need the same kind or same amount. And while people should be free to live as they choose, no one should be forced to endorse or celebrate those choices if it violates their religious beliefs.

Conservatives say people should have choices. Progressives say one political solution fits all.

No. 3: Conservatives and progressives have a different view of “We the People.”

Whether it’s the Second Amendment, immigration, or putting limits on a******n, if we the people don’t pass laws progressives approve, they turn to judges, executive orders, and government bureaucrats behind closed doors to overturn the will of v**ers.

Wh**ever one may think about the wisdom of hiking the minimum wage, banning plastic straws, or removing controversial historical monuments, conservatives believe v**ers closest to the issues should be the ones making such decisions for their communities—not lawmakers in Washington or a panel of judges fives states away.

To sum it up, conservatives believe in individual rights, not special rights. Conservatives believe in allowing Texas to be Texas and Vermont to be Vermont. And conservatives believe we the people can v**e with our feet about where we want to live and what laws we want to live under.

As always, Blade has brought a wealth of information that brings us the clear distinction of conservatives, progressives, and liberals. Reasons why there is a wide division of our society today. I am afraid the trend is heeding more to the progressive side because majority of the young generation are the products of indoctrinated children in public schools, colleges and universities.

Parents must be vigilant about raising their kids, the schools they use, the environment and the kind of people they are exposed to.

But most importantly, God must be present in every home that will lead the kids to fruition of the most productive life, aware of responsibilities for themselves, the people, and our country as a whole. When there is God that guides us we could not be lost.

Good morning, Radiance....

While not a miracle, I was blessed to be a part of a minor blessing this day...

A small reminder of the value of prayer...

I opened bdamage's morning prayer... Rather liked it... So I passed it on to a friend of mine...

He had just gotten home from the hospital (he is doing his practical, working towards a medical degree) and was in tears...

Today was an exciting day for him...He was going to assist with two natural births...

The first went well...

The second not so much... The child was born with cyanosis and the doctors struggled to resuscitate him... Several times...

In the end they were successful (God be praised...Amen) but there will still be many problems and the child may yet die...

My friend was having a good cry...And wondering if he should continue in his field... He has seen sick and elderly patients pass...But never a child... He has strong religious beliefs and was having a moment where he posed that question we all do sometimes concerning the perceived unfairness of the world at times....

bdamage's prayer came at exactly the right moment... It reminded him of his reasons for wanting to be a doctor... And that the Lord is always with us...

Blessed Intervention...🙏🙏🙏

I think that there is a possibility that you have fallen off the fence on the left side.....no problem, you seem to have landed on your feet! There is a very famous quote by a very intelligent intellectual theologian LOL!
It goes sorta like this.....if a man doesn’t STAND for something, he’ll fall for anything!😂😂😂. That would make a good line in a country song, don’t sha 🤔 think?

I will repeat what I have stated on OPP many times: I regard myself as a moderate/centrist leaning more left than right, but not exclusively. However, due to my often eclectic views, and having been labeled both by family and friends, I am not surprised or alarmed or when viewed as either liberal or conservative.

Over the years, I've tried being open-minded. A mind is like a parachute in that it doesn't function without being opened. Yet, I am not so open-minded as to fail in discarding thoughts I deem unworthy of h*****g onto. In other words, I glean what I deem worthy from what I read and hear. I toss the rest. Everyone has that option, and most generally exercise it.

You might be conflating liberals and progressives...

Don't think Slatten is a progressive... Though I could be wrong...

Must you always EXPLAIN what someone says that doesn’t exactly fit your definitions? My point was simply that MR. SLATTEN is of the age that he knows what he believes and why he believes it.......just like ME! Believe it or not,!!!!!!!! I have friends that are liberals or progressives, or wh**ever word you want to use! I was not disrespecting his right to believe what he believes nor do I want or expect everyone to believe what I do!

Here’s something else you can critique! I don’t believe there is such a thing as a true fence sitter. A person is going to lean right or left, therefore, they will fall off that fence! Just my opinion! This conversation with EE was never meant to be a serious discussion!

You asked Zemirah once if she ever “let her hair down?” Do you?

These verses support both your and Rumi's positions....

Who decides who is truly hearing and seeing?

The verses don’t support what rumi said. The bible refutes it.

The bible also shows who hears and sees. Its not about personal opinion - its about understanding what God is revealing to us. Some are closed to it because they don’t want to believe all of it. But its all or nothing.

Sigh...

It's never about personal opinion...

Always about confirmation bias.....

All or nothing?

Bet Rumi could start a great threat on that one

No not confirmation bias. The basics are seen by all Christians such as the doctrine of salvation, being saved by grace alone, the triune nature of God and others.

Other things that aren’t necessary for salvation there are some differences on.

It is simple. You either believe the bible is inerrant and the word of God or you don’t. Some reject part of it - such as Christ being the only way to God - because they have friends or family members that aren’t Christian. After all, who wants anyone to go to hell?

What do you think “many are called few are chosen” means? It means most people are not going to heaven.

Or this -

13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
- Matthew 7

Christ spoke about hell more than heaven. People don’t want to hear that.

What a beautiful story. I know bdamage. She has a beautiful heart. I think the doctor must continue to be a doctor. Not discouraged of this event. Fact is he is gifted not only the medical ability to heal and cure, but the most important power he got is his faith in God. Both of his mental abilities and his faith in God will be the most important strength that will make him successful on his medical endeavors. May God bless him and the baby restored to a normal life. Let us pray for that.

Agreed Radiance...

The doctor is so special individual... Who has enough to the University Bible study from 40 individuals to over 200..

I hope that he will continue to love God and grow in God's love..

Thank you for your prayers

Really? We have a different view of fruits. The Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are an enumeration of seven spiritual gifts originating from patristic authors, later elaborated by five intellectual virtues and four other groups of ethical characteristics. They are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

You don't know your bible very well rumi. Your doctrines are out in left field.\

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
