No that's not what the deep state is but its what the left made up to try and debunk it.

It was around long before Trump.

We could probably quote endless examples that buffer both positions of "Deep State." From my viewpoint, the "Deep State" does not refer to a tight organization but to an ideological bent that simply goes against the traditional democratic rule set up by our founding fathers in the Constitution. To deny the existence of the "Deep State" one has to ignore masses of decisions made by unelected people in the FBI, Dept of State, Dept of Agriculture, Dept of Energy and on and on. It is obvious that the 450 plus elected Federal officials can't make every decision that is needed to be made, so they have been assigned those duties to be made within the scope of the Constitution. Human nature being what it is, it is not surprising that those decisions could evolve into policies that reflect personal leanings rather than Constitutional mandates. I think the term "Deep State" was coined by President Trump. I could be wrong but that is the first time I can recall hearing of it.

The Judicial branch has also changed, a la 9th Circuit. Maybe instead of calling it "Deep State" we should call it what it is - creeping socialism - although lately it seems to be more than creeping.

I don't know if Comey admitted to the existence of the deep state but he, by definition, is a big part of it.

The deep state is/are un-elected individuals using their positions of some sort of power to try to remove others from office or run the country by effecting those elected officials who have the job of running the country. They do so by leaking, lobbying elected officials, trying to effect e******ns of officials, etc.

Good definition. And they've been in a feeding frenzy the past 2.5 years

Citizens United gave legitimacy to the real deep state. Rich people get together and decide what they want and they tell the politicians that they own to push that agenda. trump along with bannon and miller are trying to destroy the institutions that protect us. they want you to not trust any government agency. they have done a great job. Russia is so happy, just like when t***p w*n, bubbly was flowing all over Russia.

They may be but so are the FCC, Dep'ts. of Education, Energy, Agriculture, Homeland Security, HHS, CIA, the military, FBI, etc. They all care about their survival & equate it the survival of this country. I don't trust any of them.

Trump has put people in charge of all agencies who want to destroy them. When he is gone, we will have to start from scratch

So when did he admit that and perhaps you could provide a link to the confession.

Would you be more comfortable with shadow government? You should be able to find it in Dan Bongino's books or most books chronicling golf bag barry's exploits after his terms and during Pres. Trump's. ThatComey quote was when he was on national tv, I'm sure you saw it, how much attention you paid...

I never heard about the "Deep State" until Trump became President. I have since put the rogue actions of the CIA, Dept of Justice, and the NSA as being my definition of the Deep State. Add Lois Learner's actions at the IRS and it further solidifies my feelings. People in government, I worked there for many, many years, all have their political beliefs but we were warned and tried hard to not let that influence our actions. What has happened in the past three years is unusual, in my opinion, and so what are we to call it? Deep State, works for me.

Didn't JFK talk about something similar before he was assassinated?

When someone of Peter Strzoks low character exonerated Hillary before interviewing her.

And tried to Convict Trump in the same stroke, there absolutely is deep state.

Strzok wasn't working without orders.
