The deep state is/are un-elected individuals using their positions of some sort of power to try to remove others from office or run the country by effecting those elected officials who have the job of running the country. If there were a deep state it stands to reason there would be little, if anything, known about them. People who put an inordinate amount of trust in institutions that continually fail us will not believe there is one.

To me, that's the conspiracy version. It seems less mysterious to just say they are un-elected people using their position in gov to true to effect the gov for their own agenda. Shadow gov's are kind of like something one reads about in fiction where there are groups like the Illuminati who are the true controllers of the world.

Could this be referring to the action of Comey, Strock, the 19 Democrats on Mueller's team, Schiff, etc, who tried, so far unsuccessfully, to derail Trump's presidency? Hey Slatten49. The term Deep State may be a poor one but it does exist. I skim read the first article and have profound disagreement with it.

To deny that there is a permanent class of rulers, e.g. bureaucrats, who exist for their benefit is naïve, at best. I doubt whether Trump even with his approach has reduced the size of government by a single bureaucrat. As I understand, only one president did that, Thomas Jefferson who even reduced the military. I regard the military also as a threat to our freedom.

What is necessary to bring government to heel is not a quick trim approach but rather machetes and steamrollers. Even a 10% annual reduction for ten years wouldn't suffice

But as the same time there would have to be massive repeals of residual New Deal, Square Deal, Fair Deal, New Frontier and Great Society legislation going back to and including Civil War and Monroe Doctrine legislation. Those programs necessitate the Deep State.

The CIA, FBI, FCC, FTC, etc. would all have to go.
