Dear Brandon, Thank you for your column. I hope I can have a difference of opinion, because I have a difference of opinion.
I think the position of children at the border is complex and certainly an important concern. I don't think it's really a difference in morality, because I think that most people agree on helping children in a very difficult situation.
The first problem about this situation as I see it is in getting accurate information. Just as children can be use in drug smuggling, sex trafficking and a device for getting someone across the border, children can also be used to get v**es, or create a false appearance . For example, the "ripped away from parents" visual you are referring to is a problem for a couple of reasons: where was the picture taken and when was the picture or pictures taken? As it turns out, some of these photographs are from 2015 not 2018 or 2019. You see what I am saying? Based on the technology of such images, a politician can use words like "drinking from a toilet" or "ripped away" without anyone knowing what they are saying is true or not. Clearly, anyone in politics has other motives than being "fair" or "moral" (i.e., gaining power). As it turns out, interviews and investigations by pastors from areas near the border found these accusations to be false. We live in a very angry world. It's too easy for politicians to push the anger "pleasure button" to hijack approval and v**es. This is my concern. Thank you for letting me post.
