Yeah, what was rumitoid thinking when he googled up some obscure commentary on Elaine Pagels' opinion of the book of Revelation. He offered no comments of his own, nor did he accredit his source. This casts a huge shadow over rumi's purpose in starting this thread.

He likes to stir s**t up and he thrives on the attention.

I apologize for that post. I found it in some notes from thirty-five years ago and did not really give it a good read. Copy and paste. Very tired and feeling down. No excuse, just a weak explanation. Back then I was just starting my study of Christianity, actually reading the Bible and not some Catholic Missal for God's word. Televangelist had not made me a fan of mainstream Christianity and I was looking to poke holes in their beliefs. Pagels suited me perfectly at that time. No longer.

It is all POV. You say I like to stir s**t up for attention and I see it as make people think for better understanding, usually out of their comfort zone.

Alternatively....

He enjoys exploring Scripture and wishes to challenge people to think...

This is not saying we should forget what he told us about the signs. It just says we don't know the day or the hour. He had a purpose in telling us what the signs were. If he didn't want us to be mindful he'd not have included them.

Critical Reading of Rumi's preceding post...

Pagels thinks gospels were suppressed - even though they contradict the gospel according to Christ. She's more into Christ as a mystic and other new age 'stuff'.

She also thinks that belief in Jesus as God has been overemphasized in Christianity.

Sounds like she got some things right

I apologize for that post. I found it in some note... (show quote)

How dare you force people to think...

Next you'll be asking them to defend their thoughts with logic and rational..

The last time people were asked to do that we crucified the fella...

Tread lightly Rumi

You should really refrain from telling others about critical reading and do some yourself with regards to scripture. Its not like a storybook.

It is when you just close your eyes and believe really really really hard

Maybe you can help... I am trying to find some Christians from the First century or early second century AD who wrote/spoke of the Trinity...(I think it would make a Good counter argument to Tommy)... But so far I have cone up dry... Admittedly, my search engine sk**ls are not great... And Chinese search engines tend to work best in Chinese... But you enjoy research... Care to Lend a hand?

I no longer have that info. You could also do a search on Simon Magus who started it. He was a false convert and sorcerer who tried to buy an apostleship. His story is in Acts 8

Simon Magus had nothing to do with Tommy's argument... Introducing him was a poor attempt to conflate and misdirect the argument...

He in no way started the idea that Jesus and God were not the same being...
