There may have been a local flood but not a global one. Noah's boat was reputed to be 30 cubits but never in history was any one able to come close to building a wooden boat that large until 3,000 years later when iron ships began being built

In any case, one wonders where Noah got all that wood on the plains of Mesopotamia.

Of course mythology is not the path to t***h, nor is science alone the path to t***h.

To the exclusion of all other paths to knowledge and t***h, the belief that science is the sole path to t***h is a form of religion known as Scientism. But there are many mysteries in this universe that science cannot explain. Apparently you are dev**ee of Scientism.

You have such a distorted interpretation of history and Biblical events, probably based on the skeptic's favorite argument, the "documentary hypothesis".

The first five books of the Bible are collectively referred to as the Torah (by Jews), the Pentateuch (by Christians/Westerners) and the Taurat (by Muslims). The fact that all three monotheistic faiths acknowledge these writings show their cultural, historical and religious significance. Countless Jewish, Christian and Islamic scholars have referenced these writings down to our day. Jesus quoted liberally from the Torah throughout the gospels. Even as different scholars from various sects battled each other over interpretation, they had all agreed on one thing – that Moses had indeed written the Torah approximately 1500-1400 BC.
Of course mythology is not the path to t***h, nor ... (show quote)

So, what are you saying? The Bible tells us all we need to know about ourselves and our history, or can we leave that to Science?

Of course it isn't. You can make up any narrative you like in an effort to justify your unbelief and it will never be true.

I don’t have to make up anything. And although I believe in Jesus and his message, I’m not required to believe some of the more wildass stories of the OT.

Nope, not at all what I'm saying. If we leave our quest for knowledge and t***h to science alone, we will have no hope of finding answers to mankind's four fundamental questions: Origin, Meaning, Morality, and Destiny.

OK. Philosophy can help with that.

If you don't believe what's in the Old Testament - which has much to do with Christ - then you can't be a follower of Christ and you don't know his message. Remember he spoke of how hard it was to follow him and he spoke far more about eternal punishment than he ever did about heaven. His message is replete with warnings.

I agree that the flood was not global. It covered the entire known world, Mesopotamia. Animals that were included on the Ark were those indigenous to the middle east. The Ark landed on the mountains of Ararat, not far from where it started.

If you wish to believe in the Jesus of pain and terror, fine. You’re in the minuscule minority.

Where did Noah get the penguins and polar bears?

The purpose of life is life itself. God created us because he was lonely and it is his purpose for all of us to enter Heaven when we die, and ultimately to take part in the resurrection with God. The righteous meek will inherit the earth. And it's not that hard. All we have to do is repent of our sins. This is a four step process. Remorse, confession, restitution, and most importantly, change.

He didn't. The only animals that were included on the Ark were those that were native to Mesopotamia. Penguins and polar bears lived in colder climates in other parts of the world.

Susan said Jesus spoke more about punishment than heaven.
