Never did that with hogs. They screamed bloody murder as we caught them. They were silent while Grandaddy denutted them and rubbed a little coal tar on the surgery site. Then went back to eating like nothing happened.

My uncle was a hog farmer, and we did the same thing, only he never put anything on them. We caught em slung them over the fence and held their legs while he cut them. Throw them in the next pen, and go catch another one. Took some work to catch the last 2 or 3!

I still have my Old Timer and Buck pocket knives. One has been sharpened so many times I don't use it any longer. Afraid it might break it's so thin now.

Looks like the Bundy family is still being messed with by the Feds. Larry Klayman just became their lawyer and he's suing them both professionally and personally for millions. That should get a few more bad apples out of the DOJ. Hope it snags Harry Reid and son too.

I'm thinking the Dems in NV are in for some surprises soon.

Takes me back-- One of our neighbors was moving so he decided to de nutt his boar hog so he could be butchered before they moved. It took 6 of us to wrestle the hog down and tie him up with a hundred feet of rope. The old boy who did the cutting had his knife drove through his hand when the hog kicked loose- Bit my dads leg and left him black and blue for a couple weeks. The old man finished his job. That boars nutts were the size of two fists. We left them in the stall. The next day I was looking at them on the ground and that hog came into the stall and ate them !! believe it or not.

That's a show I would have enjoyed watching!!
I had a couple here that I let go too long before I finally got help with them. They were close to a hundred pounds when my neighbor brought his two teenage boys to help.
No ropes involved. Just straight up WWE, "You're pinned, and your nuts are gone!"
That was a job in itself. I can't imagine with a full grown hog!!

Shame there wasn't easy video back then!

I can only say I would never attempt it again. I don't have a place to raise pigs any more but the ones I did raise were already nutted or were sows..

I still have a place, but it's too expensive if you do it right, and don't feed them junk. Plus, I'm too lazy to tote all those sacks of feed anymore!

I always went by the carnation book and had good hogs-- The guys who feed old bakery goods and restaurant slop have way to fat of hogs with too much fat in the meat. How do the wild pigs you have dress out? I have been told it is good meat.

The wild ones are good, but you have to be kinda picky. You don't want a boar pig over, say, 100 pounds. A gilt, or sow pig between 100, and 150 is optimal for eating in my opinion. The meat is like any other pork, only a lot leaner. It's good stuff!
