James K**leran, a grade school friend. Frank Gaffney, who made it home and k**led himself; his name is not there. Victor Plumb the same. For vets, you need to read between the lines. Survival in the jungle, is not survival in civilization. The count of war dead is far higher. The booby trap, mine, or sniper that missed k**ls many months or years later in inexplicable ways, yet far more deadly and accurate. Place a dozen roses in the blank between names, AuntiE, and that may honor a tenth of those who died in that space or in other ways gave their life for their country.

I am conflicted over this. Vietnam for me was like a Club-Med vacation. I still feel guilty claiming to be a veteran of foreign wars, so I don't. God bless you for making the trip to honor real heroes. Their numbers go well-beyond injured, missing, and dead.

Rumi, I say again: If you served during that period of our history, you answered the call when others did not. Few were/are allowed the luxury of picking the terms of their service, but did/do as told. Victims of 'survivor's guilt' belong on any list of casualties from war.

As I have stated before my husband died as a result of Agent Orange. My husband never felt his country appreciated his service. I wish he could have known you.

I had not considered, at least for a while, how many casualties never got on the wall because of a delayed reaction. I knew my cousins weren't unique, but it seems there were more than I realized.

Some very good men I knew from that War ended up, years later, committing suicide...unable to live with the memories or nightmares that followed them, for some, decades. These were not weak men, either, nor always unsuccessful with their lives after the War.

A sign familiar to those who have visited the VA for counseling reads, "Not all wounds are visible." Damage to the psyche can be interminable.

My local VFW is getting pro-active. F*** the administration, whomever it is; our boys need help now! Getting a support network of vets with time and various sk**ls to directly help in volunteer status or find others willing to do the same in their trade or profession. I feel that my good friend was saved from suicide by this effort.

Right now, today, Congress could authorize the VA to issue vouchers to allow Vets to get the help they need at private hospitals, until this is sorted out. But Harry Reid thinks that a debate about the Washington fucking Redskins name being offensive is more important; after which our hardworking Congressmen will take yet another taxpayer funded vacation. They aren't much different from Michelle Obama, are they?
