If he's wrong he has nothing to lose. If you're wrong you lose everything. Forever.

and add immensely to the hilarity of the latter."

That is exactly the phrase that my husband uses when confronted with an unbeliever! How can it be said any clearer?

Sheesh - - you have a pretty high opinion of your opinion if you really believe that calling someone a scoffer is throwing out a pearl...

Swine - - piggies - - are adorable, by the way, so although I understand that you mean what you said in a derogatory way, I don't take that as an insult in any case...

I've heard several pastors use it. Short and to the point!

Whew - - the arrogance of the righteous - - just no room for anything but your beliefs...

You're the only ones in the universe who've got it right, and everyone else is wrong - - WOW !!!

Uhh, ohh nooo, I'm not gonna pigeonhole myself so that anyone can redirect their spotlight onto my beliefs - - ya'all have declared as christians, so it's enough for you to know that I'm declaring as a non-christian - - I believe it's pretty obvious from my posts, and it's important that we should stay on topic.

Gee Rose, now that I think about it, wasn't it you before who refered to me in a post, maybe on another topic, as an atheist ???

But whoever said it, my answer was something like: how interesting that you'd assume I'm an atheist...

Historically speaking, bible written by men, for men, Jesus was born, Jesus was crucified, no 1st coming, not a son of god, not messiah, no 2nd coming...

I have no idea what you believe that is why I asked.

The Bible wasn't written for men it was written for mankind.

Thanks for asking, and I think that non-christian is enough of a label for the purposes of this topic.

Surely you must realize that not ALL of mankind is enamored of and beholden to the bible, and do not consider it the word-of-god.

It was written, selected and assembled BY men, FOR folks in the context of the historical times in which they lived - - many translations and many interpretations...

How they chose the 66 books for the Bible is interesting and not a simple task.

If you were interested in more one who is very good at Christian apologetics is Ravi Zacharias. He regularly fields tough questions from university students and always gives insightful answers. A very kind hearted man. A lot of those are on youtube.

The Catholic Bible added extra books in response to the Reformation which exposed some false doctrines. They added them in an effort to justify that doctrine. I am not as familiar with Orthodox and Charismatic except to know they have a lot of false doctrine as well.

Thanx, I may look into R. Zacharias sometime, however I've already researched extensive summaries of Aquinas' Summa contra Gentiles, so I believe I have a good enough background in apologetics. The difficulty I've found is when someone studies, understands, and chooses to move beyond, unless that someone is having a conversation with intellectuals or philosophers, it quickly devolves into fire and brimstone and burning in hell.
