If you cannot find facts to support a pet theory, just make them up. Repeat them to as many people as possible and some will believe them. Those people will repeat them to a number of others and some of THEM will believe it. Repeat this pattern often enough and eventually, enough people will believe them that they will become fact.

People believe things to be fact because;

a: They wish them to be true
b: They fear them to be true
c: They know them to be true, by verification.

If the majority of people believe something to be fact, it is, for all intents and purposes. This is what I call the "self verification" system. "I believe this to be true because everybody else does". Using the above method, ANYTHING can become fact. Scientific verification is not necessary, self verification is sufficient for most people.

Even here on this forum this phenomenon is rampant. People are using each other as verification. Many of the links posted are extensions of the self verification system. Stating " I believe this to be true" has no value unless accompanied by a link to a site where there are others who also " believe this to be true". Scientific verification not required.

I believe this to be true, I defy you to prove otherwise.

I agree with most of what you say, but let me comment on a couple of points.

First, I post opinions. My opinions are formed by what I see, what I read, amd what I hear. It is tempered by my own logic, common sense, and experuence.

Secondly, as to proving or disproving, that is not always possible. As an example, last night at about 7 PM, I drank a glass of water. That is a fact, I know it is true. There is no way I can prove it and no way anyone else can disprove it. Sometimes evidence can be presented in support of opinions, but that does not prove or disprove anything.

So I will continue to post opinions and will continue to accept others as opinions.

You are proposing that acknowledged authority is insufficient. How certain are you that E=MC squared? If you answered that you trust Einstein, you have reached an unproven conclusion. If you answere you trust Einstein because he was billiant, a genius, and an acknowledged expert in physics (despite the fact that he used a rope as a belt), then you answered correctly but refuted your own theory, in my opinion.

Opinions it is. At least in how we inter-react on this forum.

My opinion is that we live with harmony when we aline our opinions.

This country was founded on opinion not facts.

For the most part life is about what we think it is. Opinions.

If we were to look at this in the bright light of day we would spend less time disputing peoples so called facts.

They may or may not be facts but if we disagree with someone our answer should be stated as or looked at by others as opinion.

That is my opinion.

Opinions are a "stand alone" statement. Opinion, stated as fact, is an arrogant connotation of the self verification system, ie. "it is true because I say it is". Giving an opinion is a statement of belief ( or not ) of a subject and acceptance by another is not required. As your example shows, drinking a glass of water is a fact known to you. Another may voice the opinion " I don't believe you did", but that opinion does not change the fact nor does it need to be proven, UNLESS, you presented the "drinking a glass of water" as a universal fact that others should believe. Should you do THAT, then be prepared to prove it by scientific method ( video etc. ).

Unless you do the math involved in proving E=MC squared, you are accepting it on faith. This formula did not become accepted until a great many other people also came to that conclusion. The world was flat for many years because people believed it to be. Why? Because the authorities told them it was, thus, YOUR theory has been busted.

Yes, Lincoln said " we believe these t***hs to be self evident", they were NOT. That's why it took another hundred years to enact the civil rights laws. Opinion is not fact, nor should it presented as such. Opinion is a personal observation of presented ideas. That's why we have trials and not just lock people up because the police have formed the opinion that one is guilty.

Not knowing, I cannot say, therefore, I will not express my thoughts beyond doubts.

Remember that the democrats have set up "fact finding" sites to claim "Proof" of their lies! Links to one of them prove nothing! Somewhat like "evidence from researchers paid to "Prove" g****l w*****g! Their grants require that they confirm g****l w*****g as a condition of the grant! Not quite the scientific method?

You don't trust or believe anybody, you research for yourself to find the t***h. Wh**ever you do, don't ever believe a Democrat, they are all liars and c***ts. The only thing that Democrats are good at is Fraud, stealing and cover ups. Just stop and look at all the Democrats that have Broken the Law and some have been sent to prison between now and last year. Somewhere 50 to 60 Democrats and were still counting.

Could be... but on the other side when the energy industry provides their own version of the facts we have gridlock... as intended.... when the majority of the planets science community comes to a universal conclusion it may have some merit.

Maybe the energy community should have the right to counter the l*****t lies about them? But you are right about the REAL scientific community, the "98%" of "Climate scientists" claimed by the eco-wackos, and whose names were put on the petition by the eco-wackos, met in Oslo later and published a letter refuting their support of g****l w*****g! Or did you want to forget that? And claiming the wackos as "scientists" and saying the republicans "don't believe in science" is only more l*****t propaganda!
