This is a wise young man…

“White privilege.” We’ve heard the phrase used often among left-leaning publications and throughout the esteemed halls of academia.

Colleges and universities in America dogmatically teach the narrative that the playing field is unfairly balanced against minorities, while leaving the impression that whites have a cake walk and should not be proud of their achievements. After all, they’ve got it relatively easy.

Tal Fortgang is a freshman from New Rochelle, NY who published this remarkable article in The Princeton Tory. It comes via The College Fix:

There is a phrase that floats around college campuses, Princeton being no exception, that threatens to strike down opinions without regard for their merits, but rather solely on the basis of the person that voiced them. “Check your privilege,” the saying goes, and I have been reprimanded by it several times this year. The phrase, handed down by my moral superiors, descends recklessly, like an Obama-sanctioned drone, and aims laser-like at my pinkish-peach complexion, my maleness, and the nerve I displayed in offering an opinion rooted in a personal Weltanschauung. “Check your privilege,” they tell me in a command that teeters between an imposition to actually explore how I got where I am, and a reminder that I ought to feel personally apologetic because white males seem to pull most of the strings in the world.

I do not accuse those who “check” me and my perspective of overt racism, although the phrase, which assumes that simply because I belong to a certain ethnic group I should be judged collectively with it, toes that line. But I do condemn them for diminishing everything I have personally accomplished, all the hard work I have done in my life, and for ascribing all the fruit I reap not to the seeds I sow but to some invisible patron saint of white maleness who places it out for me before I even arrive. Furthermore, I condemn them for casting the equal protection clause, indeed the very idea of a meritocracy, as a myth, and for declaring that we are all governed by invisible forces (some would call them “stigmas” or “societal norms”), that our nation runs on racist and sexist conspiracies. Forget “you didn’t build that;” check your privilege and realize that nothing you have accomplished is real.

But they can’t be telling me that everything I’ve done with my life can be credited to the racist patriarchy holding my hand throughout my years of education and eventually guiding me into Princeton. Even that is too extreme. So to find out what they are saying, I decided to take their advice. I actually went and checked the origins of my privileged existence, to empathize with those whose underdog stories I can’t possibly comprehend. I have unearthed some examples of the privilege with which my family was blessed, and now I think I better understand those who assure me that skin color allowed my family and I to flourish today.

Perhaps it’s the privilege my grandfather and his brother had to flee their home as teenagers when the Nazis invaded Poland, leaving their mother and five younger siblings behind, running and running until they reached a Displaced Persons camp in Siberia, where they would do years of hard labor in the bitter cold until World War II ended. Maybe it was the privilege my grandfather had of taking on the local Rabbi’s work in that DP camp, telling him that the spiritual leader shouldn’t do hard work, but should save his energy to pass Jewish tradition along to those who might survive. Perhaps it was the privilege my great-grandmother and those five great-aunts and uncles I never knew had of being shot into an open grave outside their hometown. Maybe that’s my privilege.

Or maybe it’s the privilege my grandmother had of spending weeks upon weeks on a death march through Polish forests in subzero temperatures, one of just a handful to survive, only to be put in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp where she would have died but for the Allied forces who liberated her and helped her regain her health when her weight dwindled to barely 80 pounds.

Perhaps my privilege is that those two resilient individuals came to America with no money and no English, obtained citizenship, learned the language and met each other; that my grandfather started a humble wicker basket business with nothing but long hours, an idea, and an iron will—to paraphrase the man I never met: “I escaped Hitler. Some business troubles are going to ruin me?” Maybe my privilege is that they worked hard enough to raise four children, and to send them to Jewish day school and eventually City College.

Perhaps it was my privilege that my own father worked hard enough in City College to earn a spot at a top graduate school, got a good job, and for 25 years got up well before the crack of dawn, sacrificing precious time he wanted to spend with those he valued most—his wife and kids—to earn that living. I can say with certainty there was no legacy involved in any of his accomplishments. The wicker business just isn’t that influential. Now would you say that we’ve been really privileged? That our success has been gift-wrapped?

That’s the problem with calling someone out for the “privilege” which you assume has defined their narrative. You don’t know what their struggles have been, what they may have gone through to be where they are. Assuming they’ve benefitted from “power systems” or other conspiratorial imaginary institutions denies them credit for all they’ve done, things of which you may not even conceive. You don’t know whose father died defending your freedom. You don’t know whose mother escaped oppression. You don’t know who conquered their demons, or may still conquering them now.

The truth is, though, that I have been exceptionally privileged in my life, albeit not in the way any detractors would have it.

It has been my distinct privilege that my grandparents came to America. First, that there was a place at all that would take them from the ruins of Europe. And second, that such a place was one where they could legally enter, learn the language, and acclimate to a society that ultimately allowed them to flourish.

It was their privilege to come to a country that grants equal protection under the law to its citizens, that cares not about religion or race, but the content of your character.

It was my privilege that my grandfather was blessed with resolve and an entrepreneurial spirit, and that he was lucky enough to come to the place where he could realize the dream of giving his children a better life than he had.

But far more important for me than his attributes was the legacy he sought to pass along, which forms the basis of what detractors call my “privilege,” but which actually should be praised as one of altruism and self-sacrifice. Those who came before us suffered for the sake of giving us a better life. When we similarly sacrifice for our descendents by caring for the planet, it’s called “environmentalism,” and is applauded. But when we do it by passing along property and a set of values, it’s called “privilege.” (And when we do it by raising questions about our crippling national debt, we’re called Tea Party radicals.) Such sacrifice of any form shouldn’t be scorned, but admired.

My exploration did yield some results. I recognize that it was my parents’ privilege and now my own that there is such a thing as an American dream which is attainable even for a penniless Jewish immigrant.

I am privileged that values like faith and education were passed along to me. My grandparents played an active role in my parents’ education, and some of my earliest memories included learning the Hebrew alphabet with my Dad. It’s been made clear to me that education begins in the home, and the importance of parents’ involvement with their kids’ education—from mathematics to morality—cannot be overstated. It’s not a matter of white or black, male or female or any other division which we seek, but a matter of the values we pass along, the legacy we leave, that perpetuates “privilege.” And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Behind every success, large or small, there is a story, and it isn’t always told by sex or skin color. My appearance certainly doesn’t tell the whole story, and to assume that it does and that I should apologize for it is insulting. While I haven’t done everything for myself up to this point in my life, someone sacrificed themselves so that I can lead a better life. But that is a legacy I am proud of.

I have checked my privilege. And I apologize for nothing.

Millions of Americans have similar stories: their parents or grandparents came to this country without a penny to their names and built their lives from the ground up in a land of freedom and opportunity.
Today, “liberals” are arguing like everything was handed to white families on a silver platter, and imply that no one had to work hard for what they got.
This is a bigoted point-of-view that smears the real contributions that many put into building this nation, and this intellectually dishonest phrase should be eliminated from colleges’ so-called “educated” discourse.

There is enough blame to be put at the feet of both political parties.

Most of the 535, or so, politicians in Washington are millionaires. The Founding Fathers never meant that to be. People do not go into politics to serve the country but to serve their pocketbooks.

Term limits, a FAIR income tax system and the abolition of lobbying would be a great start!

A revolution is crazy! Civil disobedience might pressure change.

The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or
confusing.

Sorry I couldn't correct the type o in the title

Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America:

1. America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.

2. Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.

3. They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.

4. Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.

5. The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in
other countries only dream about.

6. They have things that people in other countries only dream about -
yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

Think about it! And that, my friends, pretty much sums up the USA in
the 21st Century.

Makes you wonder who is doing the math.

These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our
current government and cultural environment:

1. We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few
lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions
of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.

And here's another one worth considering...

2. Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run
out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps
running out of money? What's interesting is the first group "worked
for" their money, but the second didn't. Think about it.....

and Last but not least,

3. Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our
military and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII, but
we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens.

Am I the only one missing something?

Responding to the paranoid, fear-mongering madness of this video: http://www.youtube.com/embed/0sujnvIV4g4

I suppose it can happen here and many probably believe it already has, with the hysteria I see about the NWO. But it is interesting to note that the greatest killer on this planet is the mosquito. Averaging over 2 million deaths a year for the last 50 years, it is estimated than in its entire history over a billion people have died at the hands of this little creature. Taken in context, 290 million by governments is tame. We have more to fear from a tiny bug.

If you do not want to read the following information that is factual, let me summarize: the Hitler confiscation of guns is a BIG LIE, A TOTAL MISREPRESENTATION OF THE TRUTH.
The truth about Germany and guns, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Germany:
"The treaty of Versailles of 1919 had stipulations to disarm the government. Fearing inability to hold the state together during the depression, the German government adopted a sweeping series of gun confiscation legislation against the citizens prior to completely disarming the German military. Article 169 of the Treaty of Versailles explicitly targeted the state: "Within two months from the coming into force of the present Treaty, German arms, munitions, and war material, including anti-aircraft material, existing in Germany in excess of the quantities allowed, must be surrendered to the Governments of the Principal Allied and Associated Powers to be destroyed or rendered useless."[1]

"In 1919, the German government passed the Regulations on Weapons Ownership, which declared that "all firearms, as well as all kinds of firearms ammunition, are to be surrendered immediately."[2] Under the regulations, anyone found in possession of a firearm or ammunition was subject to five years' imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 marks."

Under Hitler:
"The 1938 German Weapons Act, the precursor of the current weapons law, superseded the 1928 law. As under the 1928 law, citizens were required to have a permit to carry a firearm and a separate permit to acquire a firearm. Furthermore, the law restricted ownership of firearms to "...persons whose trustworthiness is not in question and who can show a need for a (gun) permit." But under the new law:

Gun restriction laws applied only to handguns, not to long guns or ammunition. The 1938 revisions completely deregulated the acquisition and transfer of rifles and shotguns, as was the possession of ammunition."[3]
The legal age at which guns could be purchased was lowered from 20 to 18.[4]
Permits were valid for three years, rather than one year.[4]
The groups of people who were exempt from the acquisition permit requirement expanded. Holders of annual hunting permits, government workers, and NSDAP members were no longer subject to gun ownership restrictions. Prior to the 1938 law, only officials of the central government, the states, and employees of the German Reichsbahn Railways were exempted.[3]
Jews were prohibited from possessing any dangerous weapons, including firearms. They were also forbidden from the manufacturing or dealing of firearms and ammunition.[3]"

Cut and paste from Salon:
Unfortunately for LaPierre et al., the notion that Hitler confiscated everyone’s guns is mostly bogus. And the ancillary claim that Jews could have stopped the Holocaust with more guns doesn’t make any sense at all if you think about it for more than a minute.

University of Chicago law professor Bernard Harcourt explored this myth in depth in a 2004 article published in the Fordham Law Review. As it turns out, the Weimar Republic, the German government that immediately preceded Hitler’s, actually had tougher gun laws than the Nazi regime. After its defeat in World War I, and agreeing to the harsh surrender terms laid out in the Treaty of Versailles, the German legislature in 1919 passed a law that effectively banned all private firearm possession, leading the government to confiscate guns already in circulation. In 1928, the Reichstag relaxed the regulation a bit, but put in place a strict registration regime that required citizens to acquire separate permits to own guns, sell them or carry them.

The 1938 law signed by Hitler that LaPierre mentions in his book basically does the opposite of what he says it did. “The 1938 revisions completely deregulated the acquisition and transfer of rifles and shotguns, as well as ammunition,” Harcourt wrote. Meanwhile, many more categories of people, including Nazi party members, were exempted from gun ownership regulations altogether, while the legal age of purchase was lowered from 20 to 18, and permit lengths were extended from one year to three years.
Responding to the paranoid, fear-mongering madness... (show quote)

Nuclearian wrote:
Recently one of my friends and I were discussing the disgusting level of apathy by the American public towards the tyrannical behavior of the US government, its agencies and its individual officials. The definition of the word “Apathy” via Wikipedia is defined as: “a lack of feeling, emotion, interest, or concern. It is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation, and/or passion.

An apathetic individual has an absence of interest in or concern about emotional, social, spiritual, philosophical and/or physical life and the world.” That pretty much sums up the attitude and state of mind of the vast majority of the American population in regards to the treasonous, criminal behavior being perpetrated on them by their own government.

Let’s briefly look at some recent examples of this Tyranny:

1.) The level of crony capitalism and financial crimes that have been committed in recent years including the blatant rigging and manipulation of every possible financial market. Even though this has been greatly exposed and accepted as truth, few individuals have been prosecuted or jailed as a result.

2.) The last 4 Presidents of the United States have shown complete and total disregard for the American Constitution and the American legislative process by abusing the Executive Signing Order powers usurped by their offices in order to subjugate the citizenry of this country.

2.) The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been turned into a financial assassination squad used to destroy individuals, organizations, and corporations who have become political enemies of the State.

3.) Eric Holder, the head of the Department of Justice and chief law enforcement officer of the Federal Government is a criminal who is blatantly guilty of Perjury and Contempt of Congress, and many other crimes too numerous to list here, crimes that would otherwise land your average citizen in a federal prison for many years.

4.) The NSA/ FBI / CIA and God knows who else have engaged in massive unconstitutional / illegal surveillance and data collection operations against millions of Americans under the guise of “National Security”.

5.) The level of extreme brutality by the police in America, and the formation of a totally militarized police state across the United States. Here we see Chief Ken Geddes posing with the Preston, Idaho PD’s shiny new MRAP.

6.) The deliberate destruction by government of any means for individuals to be self-sustaining or self-sufficient, including the excessive over regulation and interference of independently owned farms or ranches. Laws as ridiculous as criminalizing the collection of rain water on your own property.

7.) Our government using the label of potential “Domestic Terrorists” in reference towards groups of American Veterans, Christians, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, Gun Owners, and “Sovereign Citizens”.

The items mentioned above are just a few recent examples that barely scratch the surface of Government Tyranny in America, and obviously don’t include any of the false flag psychological operations, and outright lies conducted and perpetrated against American citizens, or their allies. We cannot forget to mention the illegal wars and foreign entanglements conducted by the American Industrial Complex, or the irresponsible and destructive fiscal policy being carried out against the US Dollar by the not so federal “Federal Reserve”. Even after mentioning all of these items, we still don’t have a totality of tyranny! Hopefully, you get the point. We are not talking about a few isolated examples tyranny.

So, why do most Americans turn such a blind eye towards all of this tyrannical criminal behavior which is perpetrated on them by many of the very people they think they elect into office? (I say they “think” they elect people into office because many of us know the popular vote is not exactly how the so called “democratic process” works as we have been taught since childhood, but that is another story!) Is it that they simply don’t care? Are they “too busy” or too self-absorbed? Are they so dejected that they feel they no longer have a stake in the game anymore? Have they simply given up hope because they feel they are too insignificant to impact a change? I am sure there are a lot of truths to some of these points. However, I also feel that a large portion of the population has been dumbed down over the last 30 years or so, completely by design. If someone is ignorant of an issue it certainly does not make them immune from whatever ill effects or results that issue creates.

I think the main reason we see such a level of apathy in our society is because people don’t care about issues they don’t feel they have a stake in, regardless of whether they understand those issues or not. For example, someone who is not a gun owner or has no desire to ever own a gun may not care about the importance of why we have a Second Amendment. Someone who is not a farmer or rancher may not care about the federal government stealing land that does not belong to them. In my opinion, Apathy is created by the “I don’t care if it doesn’t affect me, or things I care about” attitude. This is very dangerous and a very slippery slope. Not only is this attitude common; it’s probably the norm for the vast majority of Americans. How else would you explain how we have fallen so far, so fast?

Most people don’t understand how our liberties and rights are connected together. They don’t understand that there are definite paths which may take you to losing one right that you don’t care about, to losing one that you definitely DO care about. When people don’t care about their own civil liberties and rights because they don’t think it affects them, it is probably one of the most self-destructive mental attitudes that they can adopt. The “proof”… as they say, is in the pudding, and for many of us here who do understand where we have arrived, there is no denying that we are living in a state of tyranny.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the outright denial by some people that tyranny exists, even when they are confronted with it at point blank range. For example: I have seen people deny that there is such a thing as a “First Amendment Zone”. They say…”That can’t be…it’s impossible.” Yet we have seen these “zones” on numerous occasions across America over the last few years at political /campaign events, public protests and demonstrations, and recently in the Nevada Bundy Ranch standoff. Fortunately, these ‘zones” received such wide media coverage in Nevada; they were quickly dismantled once main stream media arrived and started covering the Bundy Ranch event. For many people this was proof positive that the Right to Free Speech is now limited to a “zone” instead of a nation. For many other people this was the first time they had heard of such a thing, and they still don’t know what to believe, even though they saw it with their own eyes.

Whatever reason people have for being apathetic towards tyranny regardless of if they recognize it or not, the outcome or response by those who are awake and aware seems to be Apathy towards those who are Apathetic. What I mean by that is people who do recognize the tyranny in their government, and recognize those who don’t care, or… those who support the tyranny directly or indirectly, will not respond kindly when the system inevitably falls apart. Why should we care about them, when not only did they not care about us, they did not care about themselves! Apathy towards apathy.

Personally, I will not give a shit about my Obama bumper sticker having neighbor who I know has eagerly supported every tyrannical action of this current regime, or anyone else who falls into that category. If there is an event in this country which leads people of this type to find themselves in a situation where they have no food, no water, and no means to defend themselves or their families, they may find themselves in a position to where they need to contemplate the definition of apathy for themselves.

This may sound harsh to some people, and even though at times I have almost wished it would happen out of pure frustration, it does not make people like “Mr. Obamabumpersticker” less deserving of being responsible for their actions or inactions. I don’t think many of the people who have allowed the tyranny to reach the levels it has will ever look in the mirror and question if perhaps their lackadaisical attitude had something to do with their current bad situation or their possible demise. It’s not in their natures to do something like that, as they have been indoctrinated to shift the blame to someone or something else. If we have an event takes place in this country where basic necessities are no longer available and people need to fend for themselves for a period of time, fortunately, there are now millions of people (like many of you reading this) who are better prepared. What will your attitude be to the “Mr.Obamabumpersticker” in your neighborhood? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know that I am not going to worry too much about him. He made his bed, and I want him lay in it weather he understands why he is in it, or not. I guess that’s another example of apathy towards apathy. It’s a vicious cycle. Sometimes when you remove / reduce, or take away the pain and consequences of making bad decisions from people, they tend to have a nasty habit of not learning their lesson, and making the same mistake over and over again. Unfortunately, many people are destined only to learn the hard way.

History shows us that when a society shows high levels of apathy towards tyrannical behavior by its own government, the results can be very deadly. As much as I like to try and be optimistic, I don’t see the trend of tyranny reversing itself anytime soon. While I am not much of a believer in the political process anymore, it will be interesting to see if the 2014 midterm elections reflect any change in the level of apathy of the American people. 2014 could be one of the last chances we have to make a peaceful improvement.

Best Wishes & Stay Safe!

I agree wholeheartedly!

The only solution at this time seems to be the enlightenment of the under informed and civil disobedience.

The MSM is totally involved in this apathy. We must push the truth at every point.

And, yes, there are people on this site who are professional trolls.

I read both parts. Neither are worth anyone's time. They're just more made-up BS. The author tries to make it sound like he discovered something new, but all he did was recount bits and pieces of the endless stories already out there, and he got some key facts wrong.
-- Hillary didn't inform Obama of the attack; SECDEF Panetta and CJCS GEN Dempsey did.
-- Amb Stevens body was taken to the hospital at around 11:30pm, not 3am.
-- F-15's would have done no good after the attack started and the attackers had already set the compound on fire. It was military commanders who determined that there were no appropriate military forces that could not rescue Amb Stevens and the others, not Hillary or Obama.
-- The author says that very few people watched the video until after the attack occurred, ignoring the fact that there were protests about the video in 19 Muslim cities going on earlier that day.

Just another attempt to gain notoriety or money. Nothing to see here. Carry on.

I'm not going to engage in any more back-and-forth arguments about Benghazi. I've done so numerous times already. Not doing it again. Believe what you want. This is just my 2 cents.
