Many of the conservatives on OPP keep talking about the coming revolution. I see that they do not like things as they are. I don't like exactly what we have either. I think it a shame to our country that we have exported our manufacturing jobs. I hate that the middle class seems to be shrinking. The poor are still poor and the rich are even more so. All of this bothers me. I'm liberal leaning as you know.
My question is where are you going with the revolution? What government will be here afterwards? What seems ideal?
To me a level tax rate would be awesome. 18% or so for everyone. And a balanced budget would be cool. Slavery should still be illegal, but I don't care about marijuana. Term limits for all representatives, and lobbying a death penalty.
What about you guys?

Skott, I agree with most of your post. I really am not too worried that there will really be a civil war 2.0. A lot of these lunatic vigilante rantings are just the dying gasps of the angry old white men of the GOP. The Cliven Bundy type of political theater is just a modernized version of the native-American ghost dances of the late 19th century. It's the end of the trail for the GOP wingnut goobers and they fantasize of going out with a bang. I suspect, like the Soviet Union, they will go out with a whimper.

Brain you keep attacking white conservative men. You are no better than Sterling. What really strikes me as ironic here is that you agree with Scott's post. Scott thinks things are not good. We have been in the middle of a massive progressive liberal movement. It is liberal democrats that are in control. Our current condition in America is a product of liberal democrats. But I agree with you and Scott, things are not so good.

You are wrong on the liberal controlling all. With the exception of the ACA, show me the liberal law that was passed by Obama. You might have to look to find one, cause I can't think of any.
Most of my problems with the government are not what I keep hearing from conservatives, but I am dissatisfied.

At the risk of overly simplifying things, my take is that policies which do not encourage personal sovereignty, responsibility and accountability are ultimately destructive to individuals and nations. Jefferson said "He who governs best governs least".

Skott

There is enough blame to be put at the feet of both political parties.

Most of the 535, or so, politicians in Washington are millionaires. The Founding Fathers never meant that to be. People do not go into politics to serve the country but to serve their pocketbooks.

Term limits, a FAIR income tax system and the abolition of lobbying would be a great start!

A revolution is crazy! Civil disobedience might pressure change.

An educated voter population. On that subject a voter ID also is in order. You need ID for many mundane things, why not to vote?

Recent events suggest that the Soviet Union just had a makeover. I wouldn't count them out just yet. Neither would I count out conservatism - yet. And what's with the incessant attacks on white people?

Scott it's not so much about passing of laws, which there have been many, but the style in which this current administration is governing. Our current president seems to be talking to only half of the country. And that half seems to think that only government can fix our problems. The other half wants the freedom to solve their own problems. Our president tells one half of the country to "get in the face" of the other half. This is a problem. He should be talking to all of us. But I don't think he understands. Because he thinks that government is the only way to solve our problems and make things fair. Scott what are your problems with our current government?

Skott I'm sorry I used Scott in my earlier response. A flat tax yes. A balanced budget mandatory. Term limits absolutely. We don't need a revolution and we don't need a transformation. Our foundation, the constitution, is deep, wide and forever strong if we just hold to it's principals.

I forget where I saw it but somebody pointed out all the anti-progressive talk about "the enemy" at the NRA convention: the message?

At the convention they were (the real reason they needed weapons?).

I think that has been known since the 2nd amendment was written into the Constitution. Not the Progressives per se.
