So you would leave it up to big business to do us no harm?Ever read the label on the products you buy? Nothing is made here anymore. My dog almost died from some crap made in China.Thank God for the FDA , and still I think they get paid off bigtime to approve some products you would not want to poison a poor rat with.Take some Nexium or Aspartaine for awhile, or some of that other stuff with all the side effects. They dont even regulate and protect us enough.

Any reason why you chose Nexium and Aspartame? Just curious since I cannot tolerate any form of artificial sweetener, but my life would be much worse without Nexium.

I just can't bring my self to agree with term limits.

I still hold out hope for the day when we can have honest people in government. People who are unafraid to stand by them self in front of the people & say & do the right things & stick to them

There are people that can stand in front of us & be the type of person that dose the right things while standing by their personal values.

People who will stand by their values & be truly independent.

We as individuals need to be informed & brave enough to stand with them. Not seeking what is good for us as individuals, but what is good for all of us as one.

For it is us that holds the key to what needs to be done.

Are we going to be brave enough to do so?

Interesting, but can you explain why you don't agree with term limits? I actually like to hear opposing view points, whether I end up agreeing with them or not!

I'm beginning to doubt your service in the military. "I won, you didn't" contains the reasons why:
1-You nor I did anything. We, as in the plural, are how military or former military explain their service. Unit cohesion is rule number one among any combat veteran.
2-Making fun of someone's wounds isn't at all funny-and I never said I was shot. Any former military member would know that getting shot actually is a rarity compared to other types of wounds.
3-The outcome of Afghanistan is as uncertain as Vietnam was at this point in time. Besides, I'm not aware of any battle lost, in the military sense of the word, in Vietnam.

Print out this little screed and take it down to the local VFW for review. Go on-you said it, why not go face to face with someone whose lived it? Or are you simply a chickenshit coward?

Problem with the 'net. People say things without ever having to face the consequences.

There are probably a few groups where the climate is similar, (firefighters, police, probably some others), but I have never worked anywhere other than the service where teamwork was so deeply ingrained. When you spend hours and days together (many of those inside the oppressive chemical suits), you tend to become a much more cohesive unit. Not saying whether he served or not, just something keyed off what you stated. If only we could get ANY semblance of true teamwork between our leaders.

There are no rules, no traditions, no guidelines, no boundaries, and no referees. Groups of trolls constantly obstruct constructive conversation, without some structure, the results are disastrous.
I started a managed site several weeks ago on which there were some very basic, guidelines. It was not popular, so I assumed the participants wanted anarchy and what that made possible. What do you think?

Someone said "we can each clean up our piece of the pie" and that is very true. This is the simple reason I've been trying to get people to cut back on the insults here and attempt to stick to the topics. If we could start here, it would at least be a start. Some days are harder than others!

Our freedom of speech is only guarantied until we say something someone else doesn't like, evidently. If you haven't seen it, there is an App for phones called second vote, that will show you how each company spends their "political dollars" (in other words, the measures and candidates they have given funds to). Now, anyone can immediately (if they wish) decide whether to support a business based on their voting history.

As a conservative Christian (go ahead Brian), I have very little use for Islam. I have read the Quran through twice. Still studying it and other religious texts regularly. Despite the bloodthirsty nature of their "prophet", I suspect that the actual truth lies closer to human nature as opposed to divine nature.

Humanity perverts EVERYTHING! The actions and attitudes presented by radical Islam are similar to the corruption and insanity presented by virtually EVERY organized religion which has achieved political authority. Jesus warned us about this.

If the faith that HE left us ("Love one another." remember that? can be so twisted as to bring about the Spanish Inquisition and the Crusades, how difficult would it be for people raised under the shadow of Mohammed to even comprehend love?

It doesn't change anything, and I don't offer any solutions. Pity the Muslims. Pray for them. Share the Gospels. But don't trust them. A war is coming.

Not to hijack the thread, but when people start complaining about medical marijuana as a viable medicine because of its "propensity for abuse", I always mention that "religion" (and yes, I'm a conservative Christian), is by far the most abused substance in the history of mankind. Probably second only to fast food in this generation.

Speaking as a fair republican, we do have plenty of criminals on both sides of the fence. If there were a way to remove all dishonest politicians from office, the only thing accomplished by our representatives would be the investigations of all other politicians! I don't have the one true answer to this problem, I know we'll never throw them all out and start again. Personally, I believe term limits on all levels (including Supreme Court) would be a good start so that at least no single politician could build too much of a power base. (And I doubt that even any here would honestly try to say that the Supreme Court justices aren't simply another form of politician.)

Interesting... times have changed, medicine has moved on, but the abortion remains the same. If "viability" is the legally determining factor, then it would have to be stopped sooner. My twin nieces were born just over a year ago at 20 weeks, weighing just over a pound each. They were in the NICU for months, but no extreme measures ever had to be taken to keep them alive. Just thinking out loud, not trying to start anything today.

Hi, Floyd Brown,
So sorry for you to meet me at this point when I am so distraught and uncivil. Hope to see you again under better auspices.
I'm gonna mosey on down to the bar and order a bucket of Lone Stars and see if I can get lucky tonight.
PEACE

Good luck in your ventures and I hope your neighborhood is still safe enough for a lady to "walk down to the bar" at night.

King James version vs. NIV

Sorry, I thought "you and your friends" was another reference where Jesus called all His followers friends.

The King James says the same thing but the language makes it less clear:
22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

23 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,

24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

25 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

Verses 23 -25 are still connected just not as easily read as the NIV. Quick note, many people including myself don't care for the NIV because of certain changes, but I find it the easiest to understand.
Have a good evening and thanks again for taking the time to clarify.

Wow, 35% of one of my prescriptions would be $301. I guess I need to quit complaining about my co-pay being increased to $17! Yikes, that doesn't sound very affordable.

Damn it! Sometimes I want to scream to heaven, "God! You and your friends are DICKS! But I am persuaded that that is painting with 'too broad a brush.' And logically fallacious.

One of the main reasons I am an atheist is that every time I almost start to figure out what the book is saying, someone switches versions, and white is black and black is white and there is still no gray!

What about the instructions for the Levitcal Priesthood to magically induce abortions with the help of YAHWEH, a little holy water and some dust from the floor of the Tabernacle? Oh yeah, and the magic spell intoned by the priest..
Too bad all the chosen people have been morphed into Xtians. One of them might have some idea what their ancient texts were really trying to say in the original versions.

So, I'm a dick because I'm male? I guess because you are female I shouldn't have included the portions of the paragraph that your cut and paste magically missed? Calling me a dick is such a mature response and requires so much more thought than actually explaining why the rest of the text should be ignored... A dick isn't someone who points out a glaring, misleading statement, that would be more of an honest person trying to keep a discourse civil and yet still on the level. Deleting the portion of text that didn't support your statement could be called many names.
How about some maturity... please notice all that I didn't call you, learn from it and attempt to be civil to those you don't agree with as well as those you do... just suggesting.

edit: what I did was NOT switch versions... what I did was simply add that which was somehow dropped from the text.

I see you have mentioned that people aren't answering your posts directly. Your first response to this thread was to simply copy Dr Kelton's essay and place your little copyright symbol on the bottom. I get that you disagree with the part of the national debt, but you did nothing to explain your opinion of why we should or should not rewrite the tax code. You are guilty of your own charges.
Further, when you couldn't think of something intelligent to say, you came back with insults and derogative remarks. I'm sure you consider yourself an intelligent human being, but your posts (mostly cut and pasting other people thoughts) and your insults make you appear to the rest of us as the opposite. I'm thrilled to hear that you are 91, but age is no replacement for maturity.
