Why join this site?

I understood the purpose of this site was to exchange information and opinions, and to learn something. However, from my observations, it seems most would disagree with this understanding. I have observed some behaviors that would suggest other reasons for participating.

What are your thoughts? What would you add or subtract?

My observations of other purposes:

Relieve you of some of your pent up rage. Most of us have anger or rage and we have no idea why we have it or what is causing it, so we rationalize, we automatically make up a reason for our rage. We usually pick an issue or a public figure and, vent, fixate on it and obsess about it. Obama is a perfect target for our negative emotions: he is looks different from us; we envy him because he has many achievements and is smarter than we are.

Be able to say things you wouldn’t be able to say directly to someone, including insults; things that would make normal people accuse you of being unbalanced and misinformed.

Be heard by someone. Be able to get someone to pay attention to your grand theories, proposals, personal history and, most of all, your raging rants. Perhaps your significant other has locked them self in the bathroom to keep from hearing your bloviating.

Feel powerful by being able to prevent others from communicating by exhibiting troll behavior.

Experience the togetherness and support of group. People gather to others of like mind and find comfort and support .

Chat about things.

Play the big shot. It is difficult to B.S. people who know you. You can tell any story you like on this anonymous venue and feel good about your mythical greatness.

Well, you started off good, but blow it when you came up with this little gem; "he is looks different from us; we envy him because he has many achievements and is smarter than we are."

There is no way in hell I envy him and I sure don't see any achievements, or at least positive achievements. As for smarter, that one really cracked me up. Con artist yes, smart no. The only thing he seems to have learned in his life is how to con people. That doesn't make him smart in my book.

"Be able to say things you wouldn’t be able to say directly to someone, including insults."
I will say the same thing to your face I say here or behind your back. If I am not willing to say it to your face, I will not say it at all. The rest of your post just goes down hill from there. I love it when someone thinks they know how I think or act and they haven't even met me............

For one, anything I say here, I will say to your face or other people face.

This site is for people that Hate Obama and the Democrat Communist Party and for what Obama stands for and the Communist policies Obama is passing and making it very hard on free Americans. Obama is trying to take away our rights, our guns, our religion and freedom. I love America and everything that make America great Obama is trying to destroy it. I don't get mad or have rage, I do speak the truth and if you don't like it, so what.

If I catch someone lying I will bring it to everybody's attention, that is only fair. I do get tired of the lying Communist Democrats that is on this site. When I post, it will always be the truth and I don't care if you are anybody else likes it. That's your problem.

I have one of the largest collection of Obama document in America, it goes from the time Obama was born until today. I am consider an expert on Obama. I do get in trouble from time to time, because of my information that I post, because of Obama's cover-up. Obama is a Fraud.

You have the right to say whatever you want to on this site, some may not agree with you and they have a right to express their feelings as well.

You cannot have Thin Skin on this site and if you do this may not be the site for you.

Have a great day and God Bless you.

Well, I'll tell you mine from a personal perspective. I used to post on a local website until it became blatantly clear that the majority of articles written and chosen were from a biased viewpoint. I do appreciate learning from an opposing aspect as long as the playing field is fair. That, unfortunately, was not the case.

I agree that anonymity does help to unchain the restraints of political correctness, but I also believe that the use of insults and invectives are not necessary to do so.

I regard making derogatory statements about someone's physical appearance as unfair as they are (mostly) not responsible for their physical attributes.

I was drawn to the fact that many of the articles on OPP were chosen by POSTERS who do not have a mercenary or self-serving agenda, as do politicians or the press. I find that THE PEOPLES' concerns and conclusions are much more pertinent, timely and pragmatic.

Though expressing our opinions may help some of us to feel more powerful - that is not necessarily a bad thing. We give our power to candidates who we hope will fight for us and do the right thing. When they don't, we, as common citizens, don't have much recourse in being able to make a noise loud enough for the powers-that-be to hear. And so, we post - hoping that our "voice" will be added to others and that, hopefully, our increased numbers will make a difference.

I'm fairly new here, so I do hope that OPP's format remains as is.

Oh, BTW - I do not envy Obama - I do not think he looks any different from many other citizens of America - and as far as his intellect or his "achievements," I guess I shall have to consider those when they are revealed.

I think that you have a good understanding of the reasons people join. My reason for joining is simple. Not for the deep thinkers, not to be a troll, not to scream and shout, and certainly not to abuse anyone. I work two jobs, the second job is debugging computer programs. I spend lots of time on the system waiting for a program to run before I can run a secondary one; if problems are found I go line by line in the code searching for the mistake. There is dead time between running the programs. I have to be at the computer anyway, so because I enjoy humor and thought that some people here are just too angry for words, I thought I could lighten things up and figured that once in a while a topic would be posted to grab my interest. So far, you have grabbed my attention twice; which means that your posts are interesting.

So far, and the time line is real short. I have found one person that thinks it is a good idea to harangue a teenager. One that called me a liar and wanting only to tarnish their reputation. A couple who have called me a troll. And a few that have come out and said they enjoy the jokes I post.

MR ED: ERROR on my part. This comment was suppose to post under Glaucon's original posting. I placed in the wrong place.

"We envy him because he has many achievements and is smarter than we are."

Seems presumptuous to make such a statement. You have no direct knowledge of site members "achievements". It would seem somewhat arrogant to determine the "smarter" based on your perceptions based on comments.

Your joining was to utilize our postings as research and has little to do with a wish to discuss issues, but to test theories you hold.

Where does it specify this is an Obama-hater site? I could not find that anywhere, but suspect it is just because I don't know where to look. There are quite a few non-haters of Obama, and I suspect they missed that note or announcement, also, when joining. If they were aware of such restrictions, maybe they wouldn't be here?

You also stated that in an earlier post today on the 'Why use sources' thread, I believe, to Rumitoid. Since you said, "when I post, it will always be the truth", please point out that info to me & others.

Like you, I have an enquiring mind.

Everybody joins for different reasons and even when they say why, they may not be telling the truth. So, for the sake of argument, who care's? It takes all kinds and what one person thinks is bad, another may see as good, just like real life. A person may either respond - or not - as they see fit. Some, obviously, look for things to harass folk about, but so what? I can only be harassed if I allow it, so I retain control of how I feel and/or act.

No one is going to change anyone's mind here, or change anyone's behavior. Every one will do as they please and that's how it should be. I say whatever I want to say and my reasons are my own and if I let someone "get under my skin", that's MY fault not theirs. I find all this very amusing, that's why I stay around.
