I thought I was quite the man with a bike at one time. I never would have thought a horse could beat one. With the bike, it is all in the skill of the rider. With the horse, it is the skill of both horse, and rider.
I have some cousins with a big cattle ranch. I learned how to ride on an old horse named Sam. One of my cousins is named after the horse. As I got older I got involved in roundups and I learned what the the big floppy hat and the pointy toed boots were for. I have been in brush you could not see thru and if the horse saw a cow you better hang on. We would take 3 horses each with us for a days work. We use Hackmores instead of bits. One horse that I always rode was Ringo. Smarter than me by a long shot. He once slipped out of his Hackmore while I was leading him across a rock patch and I did not know it. I walked a good distance dragging the reins.
