I don't remember meeting you before today. Welcome to 1PP. Yes, our country being run by people with no decent standards, no principles for living, little honesty but lots of pragmatism has not been very successful. Things get done for the wrong reasons, and it seems to me that nothing is thought through before acted upon. And that includes the elections. Sad, that a nation with many educated people, many thinking people cannot function satisfactorily. I believe that the reason is that we elect the wrong people for the wrong reasons.

I'm not real sure more education is the answer, most liberals have more "education" than most conservatives and look how stupid they act

There are constant political indiscretions on both sides of the floor. I don't agree with you on republicans not standing by their man. From where I sit as soon as someone hurts their party enough, where people lose votes, they're cut lose.

What I have contention with is lumping about a hundred million people in one immoral status, due to the poor stature of a representative. We also are disappointed, as you may be when it happens to you, and it is simply untrue.

Your fellow Americans are not the enemy of our demise.

Yeah, but I can see the relevance. A fanatic focuses on the one thing that strikes their fancy ( or fantasy ) and runs with it, without regard for any collateral reasoning. That's why a fanatic is so dangerous, they can't be reasoned with, as they have no faculty for it.

Likewise a person who believes everything they hear, will be devastated when proof is presented of the fallacy of the thing they thought true. When the word " thoughtless" is used, we're usually talking about an action that did not consider others, but it can also be applied to anyone that accepts rhetoric at face value. The harm may only be to themselves, but it is still preventable, with a little thought.

When you elect someone you thought was an " upright man" and undeniable evidence is presented to the contrary, you have two choices. One is to admit that you were wrong, that you were "hoodwinked". The other is to minimize and excuse the "bad behavior", thus preserving your fantasy of the "upright man". So who is more ignorant? The one who got taken in, but admitted it? Or the one who strives to continue being taken in?

Better but.

I just didn't like the term ignorance used.

There are plenty of well informed people that are trying to make sense of what is going on in the world & question it.

I wasn't using the term "ignorance" as a pejorative such as stupid. One may be ignorant of many things, but that doesn't mean they are stupid. Try changing 'ignorant' to 'uninformed' and see if it is more to your liking and/or understanding.

The wider my knowledge becomes the more I realize my ignorance.

That is a better way to put it.

Thank you.

too many people use the two words interchangeably, everyone is ignorant of something (even me) but some are too stupid to know it

I just don't like the word ignorance used in that way even if it is correct. I just can't connect that word to you.

I like to say the more we know the more we don't know.

No matter if we are smart or stupid.

The word ignorant has become a pejorative on these threads. I do not, at least I try not to, use it in that context. I am ignorant of many things for a myriad of reasons. However, that doesn't mean I am stupid. I may be ill-advised in some areas which could lead to my ignorance of a given subject. Ignorance doesn't necessarily beget stupidity, only a lack of knowledge, which can be alleviated by seeking to enhance one's education on any given subject.

" No, not all people who sit in church are good people. And not all in church are republicans. And not all democrats are imoral, unreligious sleeze balls. But all progressives ARE immoral, unreligious sleeze balls - or at least that's the image they project as though they are proud of it. Real democrats, NOT progressives, can be every bit as good as anyone else. I've known some honorable ones. I've never known an honorable progressive. There are very few true democrats in the Democrat Party, and those who are still in the party are being morphed into progs because the Democrat party has without question caved into progressivism which everyone knows is the code word for all of the CONTROLLING isms.

Let me tell you the difference that MAKES a difference in how we view each other. Conservatives do not like politicians who say one thing to get a vote, then change. And they will vote them out next time if at all possible. Conservatives don't want sleazy politicians, but sleaze has a way of creeping in once they land in DC and national politics. Conservatives do not want to be represented by sleaze because conservatives are not sleazy. OTOH, progs will defend the indefensible no matter what his politician does, even if he is doing something that will harm his constituents. Yet, when a republican politician stumbles, the progs do everything in their power to destroy the person, and the conservative wants him out of office because he isn't representing them when he does some dumbass thing like troll the men's toilets looking for a sexual encounter, or if they use interns for quickie blow jobs in the office.

If voters on the left would police their politicians like the conservatives do, there would be no need for much animosity. But that will never happen. Progs don't have it in their brains to go for character rather than character assassination.

Thank you. I am so tired of the hatred. I understand hatred that is based on truth, but most of it coming from progressives is based on total lies because their "leaders" lie constantly.

Agreed, as ignorance really means " does not know". I've never met anyone who knew everything. I have a brother-in-law who THINKS he does, but that's another subject. There are some who don't WANT to know certain things, but I think that's another subject too. There isn't anyone who can't find out things, but many only look for information certain to conform to ideas they already have, in which case, they may remain ignorant of the larger concept. There's nothing to be done about that.

I try and I try to be clear, but I have failed. Look scandals happen on both sides of the isle. Democrats and Republicans are human. They fail.

I will make my point, , , , again. Republicans do not defend their fallen comrades to the degree that Democrats do, , Period!

What makes Democrats really bad is the racism gambit. If a Democrat happens to be a minority, they get a pass until things get really really bad.

Congressman William Cold Cash Jefferson is an interesting case.
