The main reason Reagan chose GHW is because his first choice, former President Gerald Ford, turned him down. Reagan initially asked Ford, who had barely defeated him for the 1976 nomination despite being the incumbent President, to be his running mate. Ford said he would only do so if he were given a greater degree of say-so in how the nation was governed than most Vice-Presidents have had. Reagan and Ford couldn’t come to an agreement on this issue.
When that occurred, Bush was the logical choice. He had been the second most-popular candidate in the 1980 GOP field, and he had impeccable foreign policy credentials, having been Director of the CIA, Ambassador to the UN, and (unofficial) ambassador to China before we had formal diplomatic relations with the PRC. At the height of the Cold War, this was a real asset. Plus, he was a two-term Congressman from Texas, at a time when Texas didn’t automatically vote Republican. Bush was also considered a more moderate Republican than Reagan, who some people feared was too conservative (and who had some rather unsavory ultraconservative supporters, like Jesse Helms). So he balanced the ticket out.
Bush knew that running on the ticket with Reagan was his best opportunity to become President at some point himself, so he accepted the offer.

DJT is so stupid he thought he could drain the swamp in one year. Being a political outsider he was not aware of how deep and wide the swamp really is, and how nasty and vile people can be when their cushy, lifelong government benefit jobs are threatened. He is use to dealing with people who want to make the BEST deal, not ones to destroy the US. Considering the losers who are trying to derail him, it may take the best part of 4 years to defeat THEM, but then he can relax and do even greater things the next 4 years.
