No it wasn't. It was drugs, laziness, free money, immoral degeneration of culture, irresponsible lifestyles, irresponsibility period, 50,000 dead for nothing, growth of ignorance.

Look in the mirror. Recognize it?

You mean the Eisenhower administration????? The election of 1968 reversed the situation completely. The Vietnam war split the Democratic Party and you know it.. Johnson pathetic in every turn of what he did...... White ethnics in the North and white Southerners felt the national Democratic Party had deserted them and they did...The white South has voted Republican at the presidential level since the mid-1960s, and at the state and local level since the 1990s because of what the Dems did, at least in their own beliefs...Do you deny this??

Then in comes the 1980s of President Ronald Reagan who solidified conservative Republican strength with tax cuts, greatly increased defense spending, deregulation, a policy of rolling back communism (rather than just containing it), strengthened military, and appeals to family values and conservative Christian morals right?? Oh strike that.. You won't acknowledge that, gosh forbid.... His impact has led historians to call the 1980s the "Reagan Era", do you agree?? The Reagan model remains the conservative standard for social, economic and foreign policy issues. Then what happens?? Your social climate is exaggetated to PCBS issues such as abortion, gun control, and the need to propagandized the people in civil rights violations, get rich schemes of the Republican party etc and look where we are not now...

So who is to blame??? What progressive ideology attempted to change the very foundation of our country and who has spent us into a 20 trillion dollar debt you all felt spending more would correct our flailing economy?? 8 years later and the slowest recovery of any other recession and right back into another before you can blink an eye unless President Trump continues to bring Corporate America back.. What did Mr. Who leave?? Bare recovery unless it was growth in government or construction.. Two jobs part time at that just to survive, forced the worst gawd awful socialistic BS health coverage off by force no less but it's the Republicans that did all this hell hole mess were now left cleaning up.. I'm really surprised you didn't say it's still Bush's fault or are you in saying the republicans????

Recheck your history. I was in my 20's during that time and it wasn't the Republicans or Conservatives who were the movement at the time. It was the Nancy Pelosies, the Bernadette
Dorns, Bill Ayres, black panthers, weather underground, etc. who were causing havoc with the society at the time. They all were trying to take down the Cleavers, the Lucy show, My three sons, Bonanza and so on. America was at peace, families were together again after years of fathers being deployed at war. The American kids were being raised with ethics, religion and duty and pride in America. We said the pledge of allegiance, we said a secular prayer, we ate GREAT food for lunch for $.35, we ducked under desks at school in case of an atomic bomb attack. I could go on and on. Life was good and then along come the radicals in the 70s.

Look dude, in the 70s, I did the long hair thing, I smoked dope, did a little LSD, but I worked for it. I had a real wild time, but I worked to pay for it. I raced ocean going sail boats all over the world, like 70 footers which beat you to death, I was washed up by 26 so I had to get a real job. I have a 34 yr. old Daughter who has two kids, she has worked at something since she was 11. My Grandkids are free but square away. I am now 66 and have no patience with you snowflakes.

I don't know how old you are but I'll tell you again, study real history so that you don't come across as so ignorant. What is it with y'all that you will repeat anything you hear in this age where you can research anything in seconds but don't? I don't get it! In my day we would have given our eye teeth to have the opportunity to instant info. WTH. Mike

Also well said. I will add only this: the American elder statesmen at that time allowed the "hippies" and protestors to dictate terms. They allowed the American youth, as Isaiah said, "to oppress them". A basic flaw in democracy: give them what they want and they will vote for you.

Nicky will never be able to understand that the welfare state perpetuates and worsens poverty, that socialism stifles initiative. He is still castigating capitalism and capitalists for his own immoral behavior.

Did god, or nature, for that matter, know the limits of man? Even communism can't work but for the nature of man.

Sometimes I feel I have to decipher what you write.

You used the word "Did". Do you mean, DOES He? And limits of what sort? I think you are referring to questions that occupied the minds of certain European philosophers in the 20th century, who tried to solve them without referring to the nature of man himself. I believe they were trying to ascertain just what were the relationships between the individual and society, between the individual and the State, and between society and the State. They didn't do a very good job.

Thus, the horrifying 20th century. Can't you just hear God saying: "Don't make me come down there!"

Think the Hundred Years War. How long did that go on before God sent Joan of Arc?

When you speak from personally living it
Well, it just can't be refute other than the twist that will surely come, Mike.. Bravo for you!! I wasn't quite old enough to know it as you lived it but I sure learned a lot of it! My wild times came in the 80s and they were bad enough.. politically I could have cared less... Staunch Republican family but I went my own path....I remember loving Reagan and my first real interest developing then although I was too busy doing everything to care...

Anyway, just wanted to say way to go in laying it out as it was!!
