Because it's COLD!
2. One lightening strike can (and has) cause a wildfire that will put out more smoke than I could in many lifetimes of burning wood in my stove.
That's what nature does.
3. One building fire caused by an electrical problem puts out many times the toxins into the atmosphere than my woodstove ever could think about. With the electricity coming from an evil fossil fuel, or nuclear power plant.
4. Does burning wood in my stove deprive the electricity cartel of some revenue? It does!
I like my woodstove, and will burn wood in it until the planet warms back up!
