This is hardly news. The Republicans saw what austerity measures did to Europe, and still want them. The Republicans saw what de-regulation of Banks and Wall Street did to our country, and still want them. How blind can some people be?

Hmmm, seems like the only response you have is to attack others. I was raised that only those who couldn't defend their own stupidity resorted to trying to knock others. If the only way you can be superior to others is by attempting to degrade others, you may want to re-evaluate your own life.

Here is a thought for the day. The ethnic group with the lowest test scores in America is the Dem party base. SAT, ACT , HESPA etc. Latino's are a close second. Your party relies on the ignorant for support. Look at Detroit . Last GOP Mayor was 1960 yet they are ready to elect yet another Dem. Now THATS STUPID.

A balanced budget is not the "be-all" and "end-all" solution to all economic woes, however, a $16 trillion deficit doesn't "help" the economy. I agree that a government budget is not the same as a family budget, but a "wasteful expenditure" is a "wasteful expenditure" whether in a family budget or in a government budget. Granted, the term "wasteful" is not the same for everyone involved, however, I know there are many "wasteful expenditures" in the current government budget. Anyone truly concerned with helping the U.S. economy would seriously look at "giving" money to countries that are clearly our enemies. Paying for abortions in foreign countries and other expenditures that do not directly impact or help the economy of U.S. citizens should be curtailed.

I agree totally. Just an FYI. The 16 trillion is the national debt. The deficit is closer to 1.1 trillion.

Actually through the end of July, the deficit stands at 673 billion, still a lot, but falling fast. Increased taxes do reduce the deficit, just like reduced government spending.

Not sure how much the 40 Billion dollar tax hike lowered the deficit. Hurricane Sandy spending alone was 50 Billion. The 673 billion projection was based on 2.3% growth which we have not had. New projected deficit is 759 Billion and I am sure that too will grow as we near the end of the fiscal year.

If the deficit figure stands for the current fiscal year - it will represent the lowest of the Obama era - and yet it will be higher than the highest deficit from the Bush era - and the folks who support Obama vicuously criticized Bush for his deficits. I guess it isn't the size of the deficit, it is only the person in charge that makes the difference.
