Osteen preaches prosperity theology; His sermons have been criticized as self-serving and revealing a poor command of Scripture.

"Prosperity theology" is an umbrella term for a group of ideas that equate Christian faith with materialism, wealth, and particularly financial success. The prosperity gospel, expressed through positive thoughts, positive declarations, and donations to the church supposedly brings health, wealth, and happiness into believers’ lives.

This is an extreme departure from the Word of God, it is diametrically opposed to the teachings of Lord Jesus.

It is a logical fallacy known as a "hasty generalization" to assume that the actions of one or a few, in this case a preacher of prosperity theology, is representative of all Christian pastors.
