Ah yes the GPS. My wife is starting to hide it, esp. when I get that itchi twichi feeling. Also I don't measure my life in years any more. I now measure it in quarters as 25 years per quarter. This way I have a little more to look forward to once I hit the fourth quarter.

    Not an altogether bad plan! In another year or two I may employ it as well! Thanks.

Now that's just GREAT! Myself being an 'old person' I must agree 100%, esp on two major points and that being ( let me see now I almost forgot) Oh yes the short memory thing. I noticed that of late I have to write things down and need GPS to find the bathroom. And the second point is that I have a fantastic memory for the past, even down to the last detail, for which as things go today I am most great full to recall the past. However I still keep wondering what ever happened to moms old Buick..that's all folks..

Great one, but you forgot one thing. Where's the port holes????

Brains of older people are slow because they know so much. People do not decline mentally with age. It just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information stored in their brain, scientists believe. Much like a computer struggles as the hard-drive becomes more full, so humans also take longer to access information, it has been suggested.

Researchers say this slowing down is not the same as cognitive decline. The human brain works slower in old age, said Dr. Micheal Ramscar of Tubingen University in Germany, but only because we have stored more information over time. The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simply know more, but just may not be able to access the information.

Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem, it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise!

SO, THERE!

Great post! Er, what's the topic again? Just climbed down from the roof and then the two trees in the front yard but could not ascertain why. Is this a test? I went into the bathroom earlier and I did not recall putting in all those cabinets with canned goods, dishes, and cleaning supplies. And a bloody stove? What was I thinking? But taking out the toilet really threw me.

some believe it is doorways that cause the memory lapse but I believe there is a switch you sit on because sometimes I stand up to get something then can't remember what I was going to get

That reminds me of an story about President Abraham Lincoln.

Seems he was greeting guests outside the White House as they stepped off their carriages. One elegantly attired woman, with a large, plumed hat was getting off and fell unceremoniously into the mud on her 'bottom'.

President Lincoln was reported to have said, "Madam, you remind me of an elegant bird...beautiful feathers on your head, and down on your behind." That is a paraphrase, I can't guarantee the exact quote. It came from an old book I read about Presidential quotes...famous quotes, and not so famous.

great guns ! The 54 Skylark had no "port holes" neither did the first one the 53. I once owned a 54 as pictured in my cartoon. Luv em!. I sold Buicks since the mid 70's. Being retired I still sell low mileage ones maybe two a month. I also belong to the BCA, (Buick's) bearing in mind that a Buick is the thinking mans Cadillac  PS I am sending you some portholes. The one with the portholes is a 50 'Roadbastard' The other is the first production 2 dr hardtop along Cadillac and Olds 98 . Thank's Pappadeux

Slatten49:You hit the nail square on the head about we older folks:It can take a tad longer to recall a fact(or a joke)because our memory banks are fuller. In my case,I have always been a bookworm,of both nonfiction and fiction,so I'll have something to store in the noggin(on the other hand,I also enjoy reading).
You never know, whilest engaged in a conversation, that a bit of trivia or an important fact will come in handy. If nothing else,it will give the illusion that you are intelligent.
I too will enter another room and forget what my intended purpose was.But at least I got some exercise and,at my age,I need all of that I can get. Zeno
