Very powerful message, Walkaway. He has the wisdom to perceive he best of mankind. The wisdom to recognize wrong and right. Thus he left the democrat party that has turned 180 degrees towards evil.

He did the best decision and now he is on the right trail, that will illumine his life and bright future.

Congratulations!

Black bear can generally be scared off with a yell. I told the story of surprising one on a path in the woods last June. I was so concerned with picking ticks off of me that I wasn't aware of much else. I came around a corner and I surprised a pretty big one. I was unarmed, so I yelled and fortunately he ran off. His speed was amazing. You will not out run them . I only know of one case in my area where a Black Bear was aggressive toward a person. A young guy I know was followed and alternately chased a mile or so a few years back. The bear itself did not get him, but he ended up with a pretty bad leg injury from a fall that occurred during the incident.

" been in our neighbors garden, our bird feeders. " People have shown me their mangled steel bird feeders. They will also drink grease from gas grill waste containers. With them it is all about consuming calories.

Hope the guy still visits the woods.. But that would be a lasting memory..

The grill....... never even thought about that..

I do not think they have ever dug into that.. but the darn thing is more often a mess the neat, so they could have picked it over..

Have a fine 4th of July today Son...

I don't know if I would want her in my neck of the woods. I mean I like the idea that cougars exist in North America, but do I want them eating the few white tail deer I still get to hunt ? Besides I have read of them eating people. I am not always armed when I scout in the woods. I have scared Black Bear away with a yell. I doubt that would work with Ms. Kitty.

Black bears rarely visit my home. I did almost walk into one. He was just as glad to bolt away as I was to have him do so. But every winter, until a couple of years ago, we'd get a resident mountain lion. I'll never forget the morning I stepped out my front door to see a mountain lion a few hundred feet away eating a mule deer right out in the open. I'm glad I hadn't simply let the dogs out the door to accompany me on my rounds. We have a bobcat den about a quarter of the way to our mailbox. Lots of mule deer. Some white tail deer. And an occasional elk. Then the smaller animals like coati mundis, gray foxes, not to mention the ever present coyotes. The most dangerous animal in my area which I see plenty of are the Western Diamondbacks. This spring I killed 8 who got into my garage. But the most dangerous mammal (at least to my dogs) which I get on a regular basis is not a predator. It is the river javelina. These are a great deal bigger than their desert version. The boars are taller than my 30 in to the withers, 100 pound German Shepherd. The adult females appear to average between 26 to 28 inches. They hate dogs and are expert dog killers. A single dog doesn't stand a chance if it closes with the javelina. The javelina will run which will result in most dogs giving chase. As soon as the dog is almost close enough to bite at the javelina's shoulders; the javelina spins on its front legs and slashes the dogs belly as he passes. No dog can stop or turn as fast as the javelina can spin on its front feet.

You live in a cool area. Black Bears tend to get into trouble when their numbers build up and people feed them. Other than raiding your garbage and bird feeders they are in general not dangerous, although there is always that one in a hundred that has not read the rules. I think if you always have a dog with you, you will not get surprised, which is always my worry. I only know about Javelina from books and TV. Any kind of wild pig is dangerous.

I am told we have rattlers and copperheads and I've never seen one around here so I ain't worried about them. I was very little when my father shot a non venomous water snake right where we had been swimming in a local creek. No poison, but really nasty. He sliced it open and it was full of babies.

A few months ago I had been leaving my garage open at night through lazyness and because workmen that were doing our kitchen had things stored in there. When we did close it my wife kept hearing noises and then something ate the insulation from my garage door trying to get out. I opened the door and tried to see what little critter it was. Out from a pile of stuff a little black and white head looked back at me. A skunk. I backed away and waited 20 minutes until he finally decided it was safe to vacate the premises. Give me a Black Bear anytime.
