Warming, Water Crisis, Then Unrest: How Iran Fits an Alarming Pattern

Lake Urmia in NW Iran is currently nearly 90% of what it was in the 1970's. This heightened water stress is now felt in 33 other countries. Much of this stress( freshwater shortages) causes unrest in the countries.

This leads to more people leaving not only their communities but their countries altogether. Some of these countries include Nigeria, Syria, Somalia and now also Iran.

These changes are indicative of the trouble that lay ahead. A panel of retired military officials has warned that water stressors leads to civil unrest. As heat increases, more droughts, less vegetation, more starvation. It is projected that an estimate of 50 million Iranian's alone will exit their country.

Another point to consider when fighting against changes we need to make for global warming.

You need to do better research in the future. This is not a Global Warming issue.

Sure it is, this extreme world climate change has to do with global warming directly. What the heck do you think they've been warning us about for decades, even with it unfolding in front of your eyes you still choose to stick your head in the sand. Just as they are claiming quite loudly that we weill see more extreme changes do to the rise in mmCo2(man made). You need to do some real research and wake up to what the rest of the WORLD realizes and acknowledges, and is BTW making changes.

If that were true, would we be where we are now?

Overpopulation should be addressed, I agree, but it is easy to understand the proven data that it is fossil fuel that has the direct impact. You would also have to addess other countries on their impact on overpopulation through their social and religious ideologies, it is not our country that is causing overpopulation.

Your hands were the capable ones I was referring to. We seem to be doing OK to me. Good job!

You take care of the weather and we'll deal with everything else. Sound like a plan?

Overpopulation is about to be dealt with in a pretty horrific way. You'll get your wish.

There is no global warming. Hasn't been for like....18 years, or so. If anything, it's cooling.

Warm here, cool there, warm a few years, cool a few years, rainy a few years, dry a few years.

Trending warmer for decades, cooling for decades.

Trending warmer for centuries, trending cooler for centuries.

The smart thing to do would be to quit building on the water...or below sea level...or on bulldozed debris next to an active fault...or in places that have no water...or in the lahar zones of active volcanoes.

The most effective thing to do for folks already living in places like that is invest in seawalls, levees, desalination plants, earthquake/tornado/hurricane reinforcement, etc. That'd do a whole lot more people a whole lot sooner a whole lot cheaper than anything else. Fix what you can fix now, now and deal with the rest of the stuff as you're able to.

If I lived in Tacoma I'd move...ASAP.

That's why we call it 'climate change' now. Because there is no warming going on. You need to catch up.

This is my hot button. The most serious threat on the planet. Over population is the cause of 99.92% of everything that's wrong, everywhere. It's the conversation that is worse than racism. Humans have become a virus on this planet and until we, the world population, discuss it and find a solution, it will destroy us all. We can never solve our environmental issues until we solve the population issue.
