Don, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I can only pray that God will bring you peace eventually. I'm sure you did everything in your power to help him, and were left feeling helpless.

I understand this somewhat because I wonder every day if I'll receive a call from my brother about my niece. Her addiction is meth. She's 34, and we've all done everything we could for nearly 20 years to no avail. We all know it's coming, but there is no way to prepare for it.

May God bless you, and give you strength, and, eventually peace.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Our prayers go out to your family. My daughter's boyfriend gets drunk every day off. We're hoping to help him before its too late.

Help your daughter to recognize the life of misery she is letting herself in for, by living with and/or marrying an alcoholic. My sister's experiences with my alcoholic brother-in-law demonstrated amply how destructive that behavior always is. My nephews and nieces from that marriage are still in therapy for the mental issues caused by his behavior and my sister died impoverished and exhausted at fifty two. Tell her to run, don't walk to the exit from the relationship. Alcoholics and drug abusers are never cured, they will fall off the wagon when it is most destructive.

One of my siblings had a problem and had attempted suicide so often that we had given up on him, then suddenly he straitened out and went on to have more success than any of the rest of us. Another sibling had a brain tumor and over a dozen years deteriorated behaviorally until it killed him. It is tough because you feel you should be able to fix these things and in the end you are helpless. If only I had done something differently you think you could have saved the person. In the end it is in God's and their own hands.
