You posted it to NPP who posted the Welsummer story, not Penny.
By the way, the hens are nice, the neighbors have a flock of at least 30 and they are calm, reliable layers and have large dark brown eggs with black speckles on them. It was just a couple of their roosters that were a problem.

My bad then NPP, I thought it was from Penny who had told me an earlier story about a goose biting her, I told her geese don't bite they have no teeth, they pinch... then when I saw the story about the Welsummer I thought it was her telling me another story and I was teasing her. Well, I hope we both had a good laugh. I had 5 or 6 of that breed and I loved them same as you. Could pick up and hold the rooster with no problems.

When I was 9 years old, I got my butt kicked by a big domestic turkey.

I was eventually able to behead the gobbler with a little help from my great little Aunt Helen.

He roasted up quite nicely.

I tasted the ruffian and after a few bites I made up my mind then and there that I just don't .....like ......turkey.

That yard bully put a wing spankin' on me that I'll never forget.

We're having Ribeyes smothered in New York strips for Thanksgiving dinner.

But the dressing and cranberry sauce is on, right along with the sourdough dinner rolls.

I hope y'all have a joyful Thanksgiving folks.

And as always.... happy trails.

I go with you. I don't like turkey. Had 2lb prime ribeyes and oyster dressing! Saved half for tomorrow's supper. Did have one scotch with distilled water ice cubes, three Foster's beers and a medium 1994 aged port for dessert with homemade pumpkin pie and Cool Whip. Happy Thanksgiving!

Love turkey, however had to work 1 pm until 9 pm Thanksgiving day so...we had our extended family meal for breakfast: scrambled eggs and scrambled egg whites for the allergic, ham, maple syrup, pancakes, hot chocolate, coffee and bring your own beverage if you wanted something different. Left a diy canned chicken breast, cream of chicken soup and rice (soup) set up for a mid-afternoon snack. Good quick meal (no veggies which grand children Love) and all family members know how to assemble and cook on induction burner. They elected not to include spices and vegetables available to spice it up. In the past have had nibbles party around 10 AM with ham biscuits, beef soup, chicken soup, multiple desserts, hot chocolate, spiced apple cider, coffee, etc for brunch when everyone was getting together for extended family meals around 7 PM.

That's very interesting to see how other people deal with Thanksgiving! We do a BIG breakfast for Christmas, Eggs, bacon, toast, blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, biscuits, fruit and banana nut bread. We have sandwiches for dinner.

I got bitten by a goose at the park feeding the geese when I was about 12 years old in Dallas, Texas. Bit me hard in the thigh. Goes without saying I steered clear of geese after that and threw them their food at a safe distance!

They can kill a small child by getting a hold with their beak and beating them with their wings .

If I ever see a goose attack a woman or child, I will kill it with my own hands!

Good for you kc and so will I actually I will go to the aid of anyone that is attacked .

I was raised on and still live on the farm and still raise crops but no longer have animals so I've been around animals for the better part of my life and I understand them pretty well.

Wow! I'm a city man. Have traveled around the world and ALL over the U.S. But I always wondered what it would be like to live on and work a farm. Hauling hay bales would kill me and I'd get bored on a tractor - or maybe not. I love plants. Love animals too. Meat, milk and eggs. Getting up at
O dark 30. Big breakfast, Go to work, I'm not very mechanical-oriented, but I could learn. I think I would like to farm orchards. What do you farm?

Your welcome to visit anytime kc just PM me anytime.

With the exception of my 4 yrs in the Military I've spent my entire live here in Southern Illinory in the same county and township with in 2 miles from where I was raised and am now back on the homestead and I'm 72

I'm looking at farming till I'm 75 then a yr at a time as long as I still enjoy it and my health is good.

I raise corn / soybeans / plus raise seed beans for Pioneer Seed Co / wheat / and sunflowers a few yrs back livestock left the farm in 1978 now only livestock on the farm is a big steak and or pork chop in my plate.
Have ran a custom seed cleaning business for 42 yrs sold certified seed wheat and soybeans plus Redtop grass seed .

I grew up bucking bales of hay really there's no place I'd rather be than on the farm.
Lots of changes since I was young as there are very few small bales anymore and those that do are handled by mechanical means .

How far are you from St Louis Mo ? I'm 100 miles east

Been attacked by a flock of tame turkeys as we were selecting a few for butchering. They can be pretty vicious. Been attacked by a goose, also. First he/she "goosed" me, then grabbed a pantleg and shook the heck out of it. I thought about a karte chop to that long necked heathe, but was afraid that would kill it and the farm "lady of the house" was standing at the front door and I hoped to sell them some insurance, so I just hobbled toward the door and the goose finally let go.
