I celebrated my birthday yesterday with a light wind blownin" and temps in the upper 90's. It is the "Dog Days of Summer" - you get what you will get as Summer winds down. Monsoon Season, in the past week we have measured 5 inches of rain in my back yard, now the lawn looks alot like the lawns in Kentucky.

There you have it. 99% of the time you have plenty of time to move inland from a hurricane. Good luck dodging tornado's. Ever see The Wizard of Oz?

They watch that Hurricane form at in the Atlantic for weeks before it get a Hurricane Classification, enough time to pack up and move inland in the opposite direction it is thought to go after landfall. Which is normally an easterly direction. Now, I agree with you 100%, Tornado's just form when there are heavy Thunder Storm in an area, you may have a two hour window, were you know a Twister might hit, unlike Hurricanes that have at least a 72 hour window.

Finally. Thanks Mom. I was wondering if anyone would agree with me. I've always had plenty of warning before a tropical storm or Hurricane.
In Ohio I've seen tornadoes form and change direction on a dime.

If conditions are right, you can only have minutes. I've seen storms blow up, and go extremely severe within a half hour. Technology has gotten way better, but you have to pay close attention when certain conditions are in place. As a prairie dweller who watched a tornado develope directly above my house once, I watch the weather guys, and also use my own eyes. Radar can't see everything.

I agree with you on that. When I was driving in Bakersfield, CA, I observed what I thought was just going to be a "Dust-Devil."
So I slowed down a bit to let it either go by, or die off. It did pass heading towards downtown, but gained size in a matter of seconds.
It hit town hard and died out shortly after. I guess what I'm trying to say is, even those inconvenient dust-devils can turn into sizable threats.

Yep, they can get going sometimes. I once watched a chicken in my yard get caught in one, and carried along the ground in circles for about 30 yards. It was hilarious! It didn't hurt her any, but, man it pissed her off!

In my neck of the woods, "Dust-Devil" is a nasty word. One crossed my property and ripped the roof of my porch and sent it about 200 yards into the street. Now I have a new porch, I'm daring a "Dust-Devil to rip this one off. Yep, them rascals tend to just pop without warning, My Dad use to say, "There she blows!" LOL

You guys are crazy. The only thing good about hot is it is not cold. As I become older, extremes in temperature affect me more. I have always worked outside and I only like spring and fall. Summer and winter really suck anymore.

I have much the same problem, the comfortable range is minimal. right now in WV it is 61, low humidity and we will leave our windows open tonight, air out the house. Sometimes we even leave the back door open, or at least the outside one so the screen keeps out the bugs. In case you wonder, two 150 pound Mastiffs keep out any fools who might wish to enter, and we are both armed.

Thems is some seriously big dogs. I bet they eat a lot. I had a German Sheppard-Great Pyrenees mix years ago. A beautiful female. I had to give her away because she was too much dog for my small property. She especially enjoyed using my expensive fruit tree saplings as tooth picks. Nobody ever burgled me when she was around. Her size was scary and her landmines in the yard would have caused any intruders to slip and fall.

They each eat about 6 cups Purina ProPlan Bright Mind dry food daily. The Bright Mind formula seems to help with cognative responses. The 20 pound Welsh Terrier gets about 1 cup ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach and does well on that. The Corsos are certified therapy dogs trained to work with kids who have been abused. The Welsh Terrier is an AKC champion with a few obedience titles and level two therapy training in the same type of work with boys who have been abused. The Corsos are very mellow unless you threaten us, the Welsh is a typical terrier, full of himself and very bold but loving. We don't show in conformation but Chaos, the Welsh Terriers breeder finished his championship. We train and show in obedience and performance events, except agility. We aren't agile so we skip that.

You got way more time and a better work ethic than me. I grew up with dogs. I love em, but between work and other things I decided it was not fair to the dogs if I did not have the time for them. I know too many folks who will not admit that fact. When my Mom went into a home and then passed away I was going down and taking care of her dog. It pissed me off because I had warned her that none of us could take her dog and she needed to make arrangements if he out lived her. It took a long time to get him into a no kill shelter.

Another relative had an Python and when he became ill it was neglected. Eventually they were able to get a collector to take it. Exotic pets are harder to place than dogs.
