You seem to have liberals tied up in a neat package. I believe that government needs to step in when states and local communities are unable or unwilling to meet a real need. On the other hand, I nearly fainted one day when I saw the number of federal agencies and how many people were employed by them. I am against corporations with no regulations because it seems to be human nature to try to get away with what we can: witness people obeying speed limits, but regulations need to be sensible and should not take 500 pages or an army of lawyers to explain. I believe we as a society have lost our respect for one another. Some of the name calling on this website is vicious and awful. On the other hand I have heard examples of where a university teacher was reprimanded because one of her students was "offended" and complained to the administration. There are good and bad people in all the major religions. I am a Catholic and ashamed of what many of our priests perpetrated on young boys for years and then how bishops swept that under the rug. But at the same time I am proud of Mother Teresa and thousands of others who dedicated their lives to the service of others. Yes, I take the words of an educated person more seriously than an uneducated one. On the other hand, my father never went past 6th grade but he was a very smart man. So when a majority of scientists tell me that the earth is warming up and that it will be catastrophic if we don't do anything about it, I tend to believe them. So I really wish you all would stop calling me a libtard, a Marxist, a Communist or worse. I'm just a person who has had different experiences than you and have formed different opinions because of that.

DNA Info says:
June 2010: Chicago's ban on handguns was ended by the Supreme Court in the McDonald v. Chicago case
• December 2012: Illinois' concealed carry ban — the last of its kind in the United States — ended in a court decision, though the state still restricts where people can carry concealed guns
• July 2013: The Firearm Concealed Carry Act went into effect, providing regulations for concealed carry
• September 2013: Chicago ends its gun registry
• January 2014: A judge rejected Chicago's ban on gun shops
How do Chicago regulations compare to those of other major cities?
While it's difficult to compare laws between major cities (especially since some of the laws come from the state), here's a chart that explains the basics of gun laws if you're in Chicago, Los Angeles or New York City. In some cases, New York City and L.A. do have tougher laws on the books:

So, WHY did they end the gun Registry? My information must have been from when they still had the ban on handguns!!

So you would like any one to be able to buy a gun, no background check, no waiting period, no experience needed. Is that your goal? And you think I am crazy. People on a no fly list because they are suspected terrorists, people with mental problems, people who are stalking someone else, can all get a gun. Great. Now I need to wear a bullet proof vest every time I leave my house.
Yes, I am a liberal. No I am not a Communist, Never read Marx"s Manifesto. Go to church every week. Have no plans to start a revolution. Have not been brain-washed. You don't know me at all. How dare you put me and all liberals in one big category just because we happen to have different opinions than you do.

There are two(2) ways to get someone to do as you request:
1. Thru 'friendly persuasion ' eg may Imhave your wallet, car keys, jewelry etc
or
2. By FORCE
Being "armed" takes the 2nd method out of the equasion (:

So who was selling all the BS about Obama wanting to take away your guns. Did you ever read his executive orders on the subject? Well here they are. This is from the National Conference of State Legislatures:
On Jan. 5, 2016, President Obama unveiled his new strategy to curb gun violence in America. His proposals focus on new background check requirements that will enhance the effectiveness of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), and greater education and enforcement efforts of existing laws at the state level. As more information becomes available, this document will be updated. The 2015 plan:
Directs the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to require any business that engages in the sale of guns to obtain a federal license to do so and conduct background checks.  This requirement applies to gun stores, sellers of guns at gun shows, and sellers of guns over the Internet. The licensing requirement applies to all sellers “engaged in the business” of selling guns, regardless of how frequent or how many sales there are. Failure to obtain a license to sell will carry criminal penalties of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.  Failure to conduct a required background check will also carry penalties.
Requires the ATF Bureau to issue a rule requiring background checks for purchasers of certain dangerous firearms and other items who purchase them through a trust, corporation or other legal entity. It will also issue a rule clarifying that gun dealers/licensees who ship firearms have the responsibility to notify law enforcement if their guns are lost or stolen in transit.
Encourages greater communications between federal and state authorities on criminal history information. The Obama administration seeks to increase the dialog with states to ensure the background check system is as comprehensive as it can be.
Instructs the FBI to overhaul the background check system to make it more efficient and accurate. Improvements include increasing personnel by 50 percent, modernize NICS to allow for background checks to be processed 24/7 and permit better notification of state and local authorities when certain prohibited persons attempt to buy a gun.
Calls for increased funding to ATF for the hiring of 200 new ATF agents and investigators to help enforce existing gun laws. ATF is also directed to establish an Internet Investigation Center with dedicated personnel to track illegal online firearms trafficking. The plan dedicates $4 million to and additional personnel to enhance the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network.
Asks the attorney general to encourage federal U.S. attorneys to work with state and local authorities and groups to increase prevention of domestic violence and to prevent prohibited persons from obtaining firearms.
Proposes a $500 million investment to increase access to mental health care by increasing service capacity and the behavioral health workforce. The Department of Health and Human Services will finalize a rule removing legal barriers preventing states from reporting relevant information about people prohibited from possessing a gun for specific mental health reasons.
Requires inclusion of mental health information from the Social Security Administration (SSA) in the background check system about beneficiaries who are prohibited from possessing a firearm. To this end. SSA will issue a rule to ensure that this information is reported to NICS. This rule will also include a waiver provision available to people seeking relief from the federal prohibition on possessing a firearm because of mental health reasons. Further details will be available upon issuance of this rule.
Directs the departments of Defense, Justice and Homeland Security to conduct or sponsor research into gun safety technology that would reduce the likelihood of accidental discharge or unauthorized use of a firearm. Requires that a strategy for real-world deployment of this technology be prepared within 90 days.
Calls upon state attorneys general to focus resources on eliminating the most dangerous and impactful cases in illegal gun trafficking, and violent offenders who bypass the background check system and purchase guns illegally.
Removes certain legal barriers preventing states from reporting information to NICS. HHS has been directed to clarify through a rule that certain Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act covered entities are permitted to provide limited demographic and other necessary information about people with mental illness who are prohibited from possessing a firearm to the NICS.

AND DON'T TELL ME BLAH BLAH BLAH. That just means you were too lazy to read it or find your own source. AND DON'T TELL ME IT'S FAKE NEWS. that's the easy way to dismiss anything you don't want to hear.

You IMPLIED that Sandy Hook would not have happened if we did not allow mentally unstable beings to have guns? That Mentally unstable kid TOOK his Mother's guns. And I assume SHE was not mentally unstable when she applied for them. So WHAT is your point?
People, who INTEND to kill people, will get their hands on a gun, or OTHER weapon, regardless!!!

What we NEED are RELIABLE Psychiatrists to DOCTOR these mentally ill, not just someone that collects a huge fee for doing nothing, which is MAINLY what we have in the Psychological Dept. And when all of these kids, that ALL get a prize, grow up, and realize you DON'T really get a prize for just SHOWING UP, there is going to be a NEED FOR A LOT OF PSYCHIATRISTS!!!

The Arms Trade Treaty has nothing to do with restricting the legal sale or ownership of guns within the United States. The aim of the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty is to combat the illicit international trade of arms by “tightening regulation of, and setting international standards for, the import, export and transfer of conventional weapons” in order to “close gaps in existing regional and national arms export control systems that allow weapons to pass onto the illicit market”:
