Yes, they really are, if you have room in your heart and home, you should get one. There is a fair bit of work involved.
I expect my newfy will be a drooler and very hairy all of which will at some point decorate my home and car. So you got love them
as much as they love you.

Yeah, like I said, you gotta love them. There are many dogs that dont drool, but there are no clean dogs. I'm very thankful I live in the woods, no pooper scooper needed for the mountains my puppy will be leaving behind.

My dogs, sensing my displeasure at the appearance of these gifts, generally take them further out, off the trail, but caution is still advised.

I truly love all dogs, but have found that these large working breeds better suit my lifestyle.. I have had a few mixed breed, usually lab or retriever and they tend to hunt. I spend alot of time in the woods alone, seeking materials for my rustic furniture. That means no leash,
and have had not a few run ins with porcupines, very painful for dogs, very expensive for me. ? My berners were great for staying right by my side, but the health issues were heartbreaking. I just lost the dog"Willie" that shows on my posts @Christmas.. He was only 6.
Newfoundlands lifespan is a bit longer and I'm just hoping for the best. Great local breeder of service dogs, and I am also exploring that possibility. So this has been seriously considered.

Smaller dogs tend to live longer. In fact, this one guy had an ankle biter that lived over thirty years, if you can believe that. I don't like most ankle biter breeds. Pekingese are pretty cool but mostly useless. I think my next dog will probably be an English Shepherd. Or, maybe, a lab mix.

My neighbor has two boxers that I truly love. I am old and single and would love to have another dog. However I can't bring myself to get a dog who may very well outlive me. I cannot think about the future of an animal I love after I die. What would happen to my beloved dog? At my age it's probably better to just love other people's pets.

God bless, get an older dog from the shelter, they are hard to adopt out and specify that they retrieve it if something happens to you. They'd probably adopt it for a house dog. Mike
