Cuba is not the main point. My point being that the Republicans are trying to destroy public education at every level.

I know I agree It started in 1953 when the SCOTUS ruled in Brown vs Board of Education that separate but equal was in-constitutional then in 1963 they ruled that religious prayer in public schools was in-constitutional and the war on public schools went full force The religious right has been undermining public education ever since with school vouchers, charter schools, reduced spending. That is a pet peeve and it burns my ass

You have switched subjects from Cuba to Costa Rica. I still hold to my original point. Cuba may have close to 100 % literacy, but at what level? If you wish to compare Costa Rica to Cuba and throw in military considerations, I notice that Cuba has not disbanded it's military. If we wish to look at Socialist paradises my favorite is Venezuela. I do not know what fossil fuels has to do with literacy.

That is not a good example try Denmark or Finland. Norway ,Sweden, ect. Venezuela's government is a bunch corrupt thugs that outlawed the opposition party not a good example of democratic socialism

Literate in what? Marxist idiotology?

Education, by the way, is more than learning to read. It is learning to think. Cuban Marxist education does not teach one how to think. And that is fast becoming the norm in America.

Now how do you know that. Have you visited and observed this first hand or is this something you've heard ??

Then why did so many Cubans come to America, and why are Latin Americans still immigrating here? Not for the "fine" American education system, according to you.

By the way, what exactly are "Dreamers"?

Oh, wait, I found it online: http://www.adl.org/sites/default/files/documents/assets/pdf/education-outreach/what-is-the-dream-act-and-who-are-the-dreamers.pdf

Cubans and latino's come here looking for a better life in a wealthier country The. US embargo has been strangling Cuba an island nation of 11 million for nearly 60 years. The events that led up to the Cuban revolution began in 1898 when the US desiring to drive Spain out of the western hemisphere, used the sinking of the battleship Maine in Havana harbor to declare war on Spain
and in the process acquired Their colonies in the Caribbean and the Philippines, Guam, and Annexed Hawaii. Cuba was allowed to be independent with the exception they retained the right to intervene if things did not go our way. By the 1950 US companies and corporations owned 80 % of Cuban assets and the Mafia operated gambling casino's and prostitution in Havana. Prostitutes were drawn from the poor young girls of Cuba who turned to it in desperation to provide for their families. In the case of the Philippines the people petitioned the US for their independence and when rebuffed began a war for their independence and between 1898 and 1901 the US Marines slaughtered an estimated 200,000 of them

Yeah, communism and Communists always big on education. But the political aspect of it is totally Marxist indoctrination. That means that the public school system is subversive to Traditional America and the principles upon which this country was founded.

I ddo wish you's do a bit of investigation instead of living up to your name, Witless. At one time the U.S. was t the top in every area but now we're lucky to even get into the top 20 in any field. Literacy means the ability to read and write and, Surprise! the level of literacy in this country is less than 70%. Because I'm interested in retiring there, I do subscribe to the English version of the Costa Rican newspaper, "Tico Times." For a while that government was messed up but, since they've voted in (yes, they vote) a new leader, the country is back on its feet. Your head is so full of junk you refuse to take a good look at what's been happening in the education system here. Over the years our Congress has been budgeting less and less money to the arts and education. Just look - this asshole is continuing to reduce the strength of the EPA (you know, things like clean air and water) are included and a requirement for good health. In the area of medicine, that country is highly regarded because they don't have Big Pharma. FYI - many countries will not allow American pharmaceuticals in because they are concerned about the cost to their citizens. I recall when it was possible to order pharmaceuticals from Canada and then BP. through its lobby had a law changed which disallowed this practice.

Do spend some time and Google this if you don't care to believe me. It's just amazing how so many Americans refuse to look at this country's standard in the global picture. Many American congress people are more interested in their own wallets rather than their patriotism. The truth does hurt but at least I am able to take a real look at the situation rather than burying my head in the orange guy's butt. Perhaps if you really cared about this country, you would get off yours and work toward enlightenment (your own). Fool! ! !

Shouldn't surprise. The regime needs evryone to be able to read its propaganda.

In the old street scenes of Moscow, you could see everyone had a newspaper under his arm as he walked around Red Square. There was a reason for that. Pravda (pravda meaning the truth in Russian) and other government newspapers were heavily subsidized by the government and toilet paper was often in short supply.

Home schooling is the way to fly, assuming the parent have a decent IQ.
If AVERAGE IQ IS 100
REMEMBER, 50% OF THE PEOPLE WE MEET DURING OUR LIFESPANS HAVE AN IQ BELOW 100 (:

Surely you jest !

Public schooling = common core can't get much dumber than that !

" " "" = Teaching kids from kindergarten on up about transgenderism , homo sex can't get much dumber than that !

Bans anything to do with Christianity but bends over backwards to teach Islam !

Colleges that were once a place of learning and critical thinking have now become nothing more than a brainwashing den of socialistic views that refuse to debate and only accept any thoughts that agree with them !

SO in essence Chocura750 you have no credibility in such matters as to what is weakening public schools !

Witless - Chocura knows the truth. If you want more proof, look to Costa Rica which boasts 100% literacy. School is on the State; right up to college. It is a Socialist Democracy. I have done much reading on it. (In 1949 they disbanded their military and turned all the barracks into classrooms. Now that's the way to do things, I'd say. In addition, they are totally rid of fossil fuels.

I have visited both Costa Rica and Venezuela before they became a socialist democracy. Venezuela had some of the best education and was on the verge of becoming a major player in the world economy. Since becoming a complete socialistic society, the have lost everything and the people want change. You can probably purchase the whole country for ten dollars in a couple years if they keep heading in the direction they're going.

Costa Rica is not fully socialistic and seems to be leaning towards a democratic republic. Many U.S. citizens have moved there in their retirement and purchased land and homes. So far, there have been no dictators ruining the economy as it is. Of course, most of their economy comes from
the retirees and tourism.

Glad to read Cuba is 100% literate...I sure wish this country was...What does that tell us about the changes in Education here to the world stats?? Last I looked we ranked 14th in the world standards..Pretty pathetic isn't it??
