Charter schools are intended to weaken public education. So is the lowering of funding for public colleges and universities. Republicans only want those who can afford it to get educated. Similar to the plantation owners forbidding the teaching of reading to the slaves. Same for the large land owners is south and central america. It's not by accident that Cuba is 100% literate.

lit·er·ate
ˈlidərət/
adjective
1.
(of a person) able to read and write.
synonyms: able to read/write, educated, schooled
"many of the workers were not literate"
That would mean that Cuba has a 100% literate rate which means that all of Cuba can read and write. Wow that is wonderful and who would have thought that a communist country would have done that for its subjects.

Wow. How about higher education? Even high school level. They have so many banned books that what is the level of readership beyond simple? You have no idea what you are talking about.

Witless - Chocura knows the truth. If you want more proof, look to Costa Rica which boasts 100% literacy. School is on the State; right up to college. It is a Socialist Democracy. I have done much reading on it. (In 1949 they disbanded their military and turned all the barracks into classrooms. Now that's the way to do things, I'd say. In addition, they are totally rid of fossil fuels.

I would also think that charter schools would strengthen not weaken public schools. The charter schools would necessitate that the public schools get rid of those teachers that have reached tenure and no longer teach and replace them with teachers that do teach and thus help the students to learn.

For Cuba, that is like being a multi-millionaire, but having absolutely nowhere to spend the money.

You have switched subjects from Cuba to Costa Rica. I still hold to my original point. Cuba may have close to 100 % literacy, but at what level? If you wish to compare Costa Rica to Cuba and throw in military considerations, I notice that Cuba has not disbanded it's military. If we wish to look at Socialist paradises my favorite is Venezuela. I do not know what fossil fuels has to do with literacy.

Literate in what? Marxist idiotology?

Education, by the way, is more than learning to read. It is learning to think. Cuban Marxist education does not teach one how to think. And that is fast becoming the norm in America.

Then why did so many Cubans come to America, and why are Latin Americans still immigrating here? Not for the "fine" American education system, according to you.

By the way, what exactly are "Dreamers"?

Oh, wait, I found it online: http://www.adl.org/sites/default/files/documents/assets/pdf/education-outreach/what-is-the-dream-act-and-who-are-the-dreamers.pdf

It depends on how affluent the school districts are. Our wealthy communities pass parcel tax on their homes that way their money go to just their school district and not some black community where the schools are poor and depend on what the state can afford so again it all depends on the money

You don't know that. It is you who don't know what your talking about. Before Fidel Castro 90 % of the population had no access to health care or education. When Fidel died Cuba had more doctors per capita than any country on earth of Cuba's size no school dropouts and most adults were enrolled in adult education. Sure they are poor the US had been trying to starve the people in to over throwing Castro for over60 years with an economic embargo
