I think it is utterly fair to say that some on both sides do an eqaul amount of name calling and insults. Of course, when one is labeled liberal or conservatives by members here, it will appear by that experience liberals or conservatives are more h**eful, more prone to insults and name calling.

I consider myself an independent. I have commented on some issues where I appeared liberal and on others the reverse. Only on the liberal-appearing ones was I attacked. My experience. And I have never called anyone a name. I believe I have never been insulting, though two people said I can be condescending in my posts. That is subjective but worth taking precations over; it is possible I got on a high horse. Party affilation or label by liberal or conservative means nothing to me.

Hello, old friend; it's good to see your sensible, well-put comments again.

I've also been attacked and called just about everything but a child of God. I tend to v**e Democratic on most issues, but I consider myself an independent. Like you, I can think for myself.

I usually come down on the liberal side of most of today's social issues, and because of that I've gotten a lot of abuse by people with other opinions. It seems that there aren't many who can just agree to disagree anymore. Recently there was a topic here that developed into a vicious brawl between two people, and some truly shocking things were said. Threats and dares were made, pictures of assorted weaponry were uploaded, and GPS co-ordinates were provided so they could settle things in person. It put me off so much that I've stayed away for about a month.

I see some new people have come to OPP; to them I say welcome to our forum. :)

It feels good to be back! Be at peace, y'all.

I LIKE that!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like it, too!

Rhinos are fractious, unpredictable critters, and can be dangerous when they feel threatened. You never know what to expect when dealing with them. Attempting a friendly approach will get you nothing, except possibly gored.

Yes, I like it too!

Thank you, AuntiE. I'm glad it was you who replied to my first post since my "leave of absence."

I had a look at the list of current topics, and thought this one might be a little less ferocious than the exchanges that turned me off OPP for awhile. We shall see.

Did y'all miss me?

Forgive my being underinformed, but what is a RINO?
Thanks in advance.

I would like to welcome you 3 new members to our site. I hope you will comment often and I look forward to seeing your posts. We may find that we hold opposing points of view, but I believe disagreements are far better than apathy. We are all entitled to our opinions, and we can be respectful of each other when we express them.

Those were pictures of lashers weaponry posted by lasher . I can see now you really know what you're talking about .

I stand corrected about the pictures. But you did post details about your own weapons, your vehicle, also when and where the two of you could meet and settle things.

Sometimes it's better to just ignore comments like that, and not dignify them with a response. His rants were not worthy of a reply, and when you kept answering, you must have known he would come back with more of the same. I'm not defending him, but sometimes it's better to just walk away.

Fast walker you ought to practice what you preach , since you have in fact engaged on that thread today .

For what it's worth you say auntiE ?....indeed , it's worth NOTHING .

And no rumitoid , if you bothered to notice , I was attacked , and stuck to criticizing Lasher's upbringing and overt bigotry and r****m .

All the while though , NOT HEARING a word of criticism from AuntiE , or Rumatoid , or fast walker , directly confronting Lasher , whom you people seem afraid to confront head on .Crazy Horse being the lone exception

There had been some indirect criticism but no one replied directly to lasher or ghost . Ironically I'm not jewish , but to some people anyone who favors present [and past ] US foreign policy toward Israel must be a Jew or Z*****t . And of course the typical string of epithets that can be found on any neo-N**i- or jew hating website .
One of you had warned me about engaging lasher , and I appreciate that , but people like lasher need to be confronted . I'm sure this website like any other depends on clicks to gauge and generate advertising revenue ,and for any newbie coming on would see more than just political arguments , but page after page of bigoted and r****t comments accompanied by standard muslim and N**i era caricature cartoon drawings of Jews .

Oh lasher will be back , but under another screen name possibly , but his anti-Semitic comments toned down .
Fast walker you ought to practice what you preach ... (show quote)

It's unfortunate that you think I'm a hypocrite for not lecturing Lasher, but he never directed his posts at me personally. If he had, I would have responded. I stand by my earlier statement about both of you keeping the insults flowing, complete with pictures of your weaponry and street directions.

It is not my business to be OPP's policeman, and I chose to ignore the poison-pen prose after it totally eclipsed the topic itself.

I remember way back when, a city reluctantly granted a parade permit to the Aryan Brotherhood: free speech, sure; but h**e speech, no. I have evolved,

Free speech sometimes protects the free speech we don't like. The Bill of Rights guarantees this for everyone. But when one person's rights infringe on someone else's rights, limits must be established. Laws against slander, libel, and terroristic threats protect people who become, or may become victims of those things.

I've seen h**eful remarks here many times, and I've been called some nasty names myself. But I have never seen a personal challenge laid down with street directions before. I hope it won't get the whole forum shut down.

My personal opinion, for what little it may be worth, is it is contest. Who can come up with the "best" insult. Who can prove ....not going down that road. I have not taken the time, as did you, to follow up on their posts; however, you may be too optimistic about not further hearing their heinous, profane, cretinous and abhorrent commentary. The disconcerting issue is a forum starts. Individuals start a discussion. Some may agree and disagree; however, remain civil. The next thing we, as members, know it has been taken over by these individuals. When we attempt to regain control, we are not allowed as they start spewing their denigration on everyone else.

That's exactly what it was; a game of "can you top this?" Neither one could let the other have the last word, long after there was nothing to be gained. It was mildly amusing at first, but watching a ping-pong game gets to be tiresome after awhile. But I thought I'd have another look so I would understand what oldroy was referring to.

But the speculation about them disappearing from our forum started with the first post on this thread about h**eful and abusive language elsewhere on the internet. It also reminded me that when those two were going at each other someone made a remark about turning L in for his anti-semitic tirades and having him banned from OPP. I think that was the idea for the person who started this topic.

If you had been pounded by all those anti-Z*****t posts as I have you would surely know who the Jew h**er is. Surely you have seen enough of his posts to know who he is. I won't say the screen name but I have called him MM more than once since he bragged that he is a multi-millionaire.

I knew exactly who the Jew h**er was, but I didn't understand why the other person was predicted to disappear. I stopped looking at the posts on that certain topic after it just got too intense. I did some following up a few minutes ago, and now I know why we probably won't be seeing any more posts from either of them again.

The author of all those awful anti-Semitic rants went way too far, and that kind of thing should not be tolerated by civilised people. But the other person, although provoked beyond belief, shouldn't have kept on replying, or at least shouldn't have responded with GPS co-ordinates.

I think the reason for that happening has a lot to do with the fact that too many of them have not been educated and like any other group like that they are very easy to influence when someone like Jesse Jackson and/or Al Sharpton try so hard to use them.

For once I agree with you, oldroy. It's very easy to manipulate people who are hearing only one side of any issue, and I have an especially low opinion of Al Sharpton. It infuriates me to see so many people following him and giving him far more respect than he deserves. He is addicted to media attention and will use any issue to get it. The Tawana Brawley incident is an excellent example of his deceit and arrogance. As for Jesse Jackson, I'm not sure what to make of him.

This is truly not a thread worth "playing catch up" on.

The originating post was a parody. Many failed to understand. They took it literally and it has now gone 12 pages. It is very similar to a past thread where you state, "I cannot believe this has gone this many pages." This is also the thread where yours truly totally lost any semblance of dignity.

Relating to a PM to you. :?: :?: No GI Joes need apply to progeny cages? :D

AuntiE; compared to some of the things that have been said on this topic, your earlier comments were like love poetry.

I thought I had seen some truly awful exchanges on other topics in the past, but some of the remarks made on these last 12 pages really shocked me.

How did our country's politics become so polarised? Why do American liberals and conservatives accuse each other of treason and the other things when we disagree on issues? Why can't we exchange ideas and sometimes just agree to disagree? I wish someone could tell me, but I don't think any of us really know the answer. :-(
