Dave successful torts based on unperformed tests are usually based on diagnoses that have not been properly ascertained by careful history and physical. The indiscriminate use of tests to routinely protect yourself is expensive and cowardly. Big Pharmaceutical has been shown to keep their drug costs inordinately high long after they have rec**ped their research and development costs which are highly subsidized by the government. If your mother could not afford literally thousands of dollars for medicine to treat her cancer, or resistant depression, I believe you would harbor a different bias.

Dave, I practiced Medicine for 38 years. Now I see people come into the ER with a complaint. Rather than do a careful history and physical examination, they just listen to the chief complaint and order every lab test and imaging study they can think of, and expect them to make the diagnosis. A good doctor can make an accurate diagnosis more than 90% of the time if they would just listen to the patient and don't interrupt, and perform a careful and complete examination, thus saving $$$$ in needless diagnostic studies. I have been there then and I've been there now. What a difference. By the way, I taught emergency medicine in medical school for several years. Big Pharma is another topic I will address if you wish. jp

Couldn't agree with bojester more. The fat cats only desire is more money, they contribute zilch to the economy. The middle class is keeping the economy afloat-they buy products. Fat cats have all their goodies already, they just want to steal more from the 99%.

Fix it as it emerges don't forsake it in the womb. It will otherwise be years before someone else dares to tackle the huge deficiencies in America's healthcare.

Physicians who shortcut care, and greedy big pharma are at the heart of America's healthcare crisis.

That sounds like a typical self-serving, bragging, cynical statement that a blind right winger would make. Not made by a thoughtful Republican. Was that a Limbaugh open mike or a G.W. Bush gaffe?

Fund it, begin it cautiously, and amend where needed!
