Great Post! I did not know Mark Felt. I met him once when he was in Kansas City. I have heard a lot about him from friends who did know him. I blame Mark Felt for politicizing the FBI.

A systematic review of the fundamental legal philosophy being practiced today by the Supreme Court Of The United States has been undertaken by the Christian Law Association's President, Dr. David C. Gibbs, together with Jerry Newcombe. The findings published in their book, "One Nation Under God", are hugely disturbing to Christian America.

Gradually, by way of the Case Law approach, the Court has become totally unmoored from its former bases in the precepts of the Creator, the Bible, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. They are now able to direct the law in any activist direction they see fit, case by case, reflecting their view of an evolving society.
Their hostility towards Christianity is palpable and evident in their restrictions on public showing of religious symbols and the practice of prayer in public, especially in schools. The Court has supported the progressive agenda almost exclusively during the past 10 years.

The gradual change of view, the evolution, on the Establishment Clause is yet another significant alteration that violates the clear words of the Constitution. We now have a "Firm Wall of Separation" between the church and the government, and, consequently, the suppression of Christianity.

Rather than taking their guidance from the Bible and the Constitution, the Supremes are seeking guidance from the socialist and dictatorial legal philosophies of European governments. Again, they are shifting their legal groundings towards the postmodern concept of law, in which indiscrimination and the impossibility of finding absolute t***h from the Bible, and from the Law of the Land, is featured in their opinions.

In fact, the Supreme Court has become the prime mover of the progressive movement, and they have d**gged many of the lower Federal and State Courts with them, thus ensuring a legal basis for progressive changes to our way of life. It was far easier for progressives to corrupt the Supreme Court through step-by-step and case-by-case philosophy changes, and perhaps other means, than it was to achieve legislation in the Congress that supported their progressive ideals.

Now the current Biden Administration is promoting the addition of four more postmodern justices to the bench in order to solidify their L*****t legal push.

May God help us!

Sen. Ted Cruz // Screengrab

Amanda Marcotte and Salon April 14, 2021

Tucker Carlson recently got oodles of attention — which was what he wanted — for unleashing a literal neo-N**i argument on his highly rated prime time Fox News show last week and, when called on it, doubling down Monday night. Carlson's "argument" is basically a rehash of the same idea that drove white nationalists to r**t in Charlottesville in 2017. At its core is a belief that social and demographic changes in the U.S. are due to a shadowy conspiracy of "elites" (Democrats in Carlson's telling, Jews in the more forthright white nationalist version) trying to deprive conservative Christian white people of their god-given right to control the country.

"[T]he Democratic Party is trying to replace the current e*****rate, the v**ers now casting b****ts, with new people, more obedient v**ers from the Third World," Carlson said, eyes glinting with impish delight. He circled around again on Monday, whining, "In order to win and maintain power, Democrats plan to change the population of the country."

Carlson's arguments are, of course, utter nonsense, starting with the fact Democrats already win the majority of v**es in national e******ns, and only lose power because v**es of conservative w****s are more heavily weighted in our e*******l system. Here at Salon, Heather "Digby" Parton recently pointed out that it's ridiculous "to believe that immigrants are 'replacing' real Americans in a country where the only people in it who aren't the descendants of immigrants or trafficked African s***es are Native Americans."

Immigration foes have never come up with a satisfactory explanation for why it's anything but r****t to argue that immigration was good in the past but is bad now.

Carlson doesn't even really try to hide his core appeal, using overtly r****t terms like "Third World" and acting like feigning umbrage at the use of the word "r****t" is sufficient rebuttal to the accusation. Instead of trying to actually defend his anti-democratic, r****t arguments, Carlson instead chooses a much simpler tactic: Trolling.

His trolling comes in two forms, the "trigger the liberals" type and the more classic "neener neener" type. Neither really constitutes an argument in the traditional sense of the word. Both, instead, focus the attention of Carlson's audience on the emotional rewards of irritating liberals, instead of on the incoherence of what he's trying to argue.

The full quotes from Carlson's rant defending "replacement theory" really underscore how central liberal-triggering is to selling his audience on this nonsense. After offering a f**e laugh, Carlson noted that he's "laughing" because "the left and all the little gatekeepers on Twitter become literally hysterical if you use the term 'replacement,'" and "they become hysterical because that's what's happening actually." The joke being that "replacement theory" may not make much sense, in other words, but it's guaranteed to make liberals upset. As making liberals upset is the prime directive of the modern conservative, that's a good enough reason to embrace what is literally a neo-N**i conspiracy theory.

Carlson went on to claim that this is merely a "v****g rights question," and that more v**ers in the system means "I become disenfranchised as a current v**er." But Greg Sargent at the Washington Post did a noble job of pointing out the incongruity of "Carlson's underlying presumption that if representatives chosen by U.S. v**ers allow more outsiders admission to an expanded polity, this cannot be a democratic outcome by definition." Parton also took a shot at this silliness, noting "we are all going to be 'replaced' by the generations that come up behind us." Carlson, notably, isn't arguing against the practice of childbirth, which also "dilutes" his v**e by adding new v**ers to the populace.

But Carlson isn't really trying to make sense. This is just a "neener neener" argument, drafting off the fact that liberals have been heavily focused on protecting actual v****g rights against a wave of GOP v**er suppression. Basically, it's Carlson saying, "You libs say you're for v****g rights, but what if I said my v****g rights depends on other people not getting to v**e? Checkmate, libs!" It's not really an argument. It's about injecting noise into the discourse and is meant to confuse people, waste time by forcing liberals to carefully debunk it, and give his viewers something to say to rationalize their r****m, even if it is literally nonsensical.

This "neener neener" type of trolling is swiftly becoming central to the entire GOP strategy around dismantling v****g rights.

Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri are proposing using anti-trust laws to break up Major League Baseball to punish the organization for pulling the All-Star Game out of Georgia in protest of the anti-v****g law just passed there. This isn't because Cruz or Hawley believe in anti-trust laws. It's a neener-neener move of weaponizing liberals' own beliefs against them. It's part of a larger push by Republicans to parrot liberal criticism of corporate influence in politics by whining about "woke" corporations. No one actually believes Republicans have suddenly become concerned about monied power in politics. It's just a "neener neener" troll to derail debate about the actual anti-v****g law, which conservatives know is indefensible.

Indeed, the efforts to roll out "checkmate, libs" deflections beat new records in idiocy this week, when not just one, but two senior writers at the National Review — which is supposed to be the home of "intellectual" conservatism — tried to "gotcha" New York magazine writer Jonathan Chait on his pro-democracy writings. They did this by arguing — wait for it — that democracy is bad because it gave us Jim Crow and s***ery. Yep, you read that right.

It makes us all stupider that it has to be said, but the flaw in this argument, of course, is that ens***ed people and Black people living under Jim Crow did not, in fact, have the democratic right to v**e. Indeed, Jim Crow functioned just like the Georgia law that these conservative "intellectuals" are defending, which is by undermining democracy in order to preserve w***e s*******y. As the Atlantic's Adam Serwer and the Washington Post's David Weigel pointed out, this is the equivalent of arguing that apartheid South Africa was a "democracy" despite disallowing the majority of Black citizens from v****g.

But these kinds of tactics from conservatives shouldn't be understood as arguments. Instead, it's all just flat-out trolling. None of these "arguments" are offered in good faith. The point is, as Steve Bannon once famously said, "to flood the zone with s**t," which is to say to derail efforts to inform and engage the public by pumping out so many dumb arguments, trolling tactics, and other distractions that few people can pay attention to what really matters.

Fighting back against these tactics isn't easy. Ignoring the trolls isn't good enough. If bad arguments like Carlson's aren't rebutted, they can spread even more rapidly, as not everyone has the critical thinking sk**ls to spot the flaws right away. But it's also important not to let trolls waste too much of liberals' time and energy debating arguments offered in bad faith. Instead, the key to fighting back is to go meta, by pointing out as often as is necessary, that conservatives resort to such sleazy strategies because they know their arguments can't stand on their own. Going meta instead of taking the bait is the only real way to beat back the trolls.

Hooray, we found the “trolls” !

We really don’t need any scientific research to prove to us that Republicans do not care about democracy. Pretty much every Republican-controlled state has laws on the books that make it extremely difficult to v**e and pretty much most of them cried fraud—falsely—when Donald Trump lost the 2020 e******n to Joe Biden.

But having scientific evidence does help when we want to cite how bad the GOP is.

University of Washington professor Jake Grumbach created a quantitative measure of democratic health at the state level here in the United States. Grumbach looks at all 50 states in the union between 2000 and 2018 to determine why some became more democratic over that time and others less democratic. And, of course, the Republican Party doesn’t like democracy and Grumbach’s measure proves it.

The measuring tool functions very much like those T***sparency International uses to score levels of democracy across the world.

Vox spoke with Grumbach about his research, which is believed to be the first tool used to measure democracy in the United States. His scale measures the degree to which a state is gerrymandered at the federal level, if it permits same-day v***r r**********n, whether people convicted of felonies can v**e and a state’s Black incarceration rate.

Here is how he scored the states, per Vox.

To turn these metrics into an actual score, Grumbach uses a process that’s part subjective and part algorithmic.

The subjective part strives to determine whether an individual practice, like v**er ID laws, is helpful or harmful to democracy. Grumbach then uses an algorithm to determine how much each of these practices should count toward a state’s overall score, either negatively or positively. This automated process ended up downplaying the criminal justice metrics, which barely factor into a state’s ultimate score. By contrast, the algorithm gave significant weight to e*******l practices like gerrymandering (negative) and same-day registration (positive).

With a system in hand, Grumbach then proceeded to score all 50 states in every year between 2000 and 2018, from -3 (worst) to 2 (best).

Verdict?

Georgia ranks high in the most anti-Democratic states, along with North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Wisconsin. Back in 2000 these states’ anti-democracy rates were not as high as they are now. The main reason is Republicans won more control in those states than before.

Grumbach’s paper is most impactful when it highlights gerrymandering:

Drawing lines to give your party a leg up disproportionate to its numbers is one of those practices that no one can really defend in democratic terms. Elected authoritarians abroad, like Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, have abused gerrymanders to ensure that they maintain a hammerlock on national power despite winning less than a majority of national v**es.

The SDI shows that, in the United States, gerrymandering is not a “both sides” problem. It uses 16 different measurements of gerrymandering to assess how prevalent the tactic is in different states; 10 of these measures are the most heavily weighted factors in a state’s ultimate democracy score. These metrics show that Republican legislators abuse gerrymandering in a way that Democrats simply do not.

Some of this abuse has happened quite recently. Take a look at North Carolina’s SDI score over time — it starts to plunge shortly after Republicans drew new maps in 2011, ones that allowed them to win 77 percent of the state’s House seats in 2018 with just under 50 percent of the state v**e.

The paper has not been peer reviewed yet, so there are plenty of methodological holes critics may wish to poke in it, but Grumbach is definitely on to something.
