Republicans v**ed against it because Democrats wanted to seize the opportunity to squeeze in over 400 million dollars of their pet projects that had nothing to do with helping veterans. Democrats are lowlifes to use veterans as a pawn to fund these pet projects. Republican say they will v**e for the Bill if it is just about veterans.

The Federal Student Loan Program Was Supposed To Pay for Itself. Now, It'll Cost Taxpayers $197 Billion

A new report from the Government Accountability Office found that the Federal Student Loan Program will cost over $300 billion more than originally predicted.

Emma Camp7.29.2022 5:00 PM
The Federal Student Loan Program is often criticized as a source of revenue for the federal government. But a new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) shows that the present situation can't be further from the t***h.

When the Federal Direct Student Loan Program began in 1994, the Department of Education estimated that it would generate $114 billion in revenue for the federal government. Almost 30 years later, the program is estimated to cost the government $197 billion, a staggering difference of over $300 billion. The Federal Student Loan Program has failed, and the cost of its failures will be shouldered by the American public.

The largest contributor to the increased cost of the Direct Loan Program is the ongoing pause on student loan payments initiated during the C****-** p******c. According to GAO, previous forms of government spending only increased the cost of the program by around $14 billion. C****-** relief, on the other hand, cost the government almost $108 billion in revenue. Even more concerning, the cost of the C****-** student loan pause is likely even higher, as the GAO did not include 2022 data in its estimates.

The other sources of the massive cost of the program are more complicated. The GAO notes that the Direct Loan Program has undergone a series of programmatic changes over the years, most notably the creation of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program and the Income-Based Repayment Plan. While these programs added billions to the cost of the Direct Loan program, 61 percent of the program's increased estimated cost has come from complicated changes in the economy and the behavior of borrowers.

Income-Driven Repayment plans, such as the 2007 Income-Based Repayment Plan and the 2015 Pay As You Earn Plan, were created to allow students with low-paying jobs to get an indefinite reduction on their student loans. These programs limit the monthly loan payment to an "affordable amount," which is 10 percent or 15 percent of the borrower's discretionary income, depending on the program enrollment date.

47 percent of all borrowers are enrolled in an Income-Driven Repayment plan, a percentage that has grown steadily over time. These borrowers tend to earn less and borrow more than other students, highlighting a fundamental failing of the Direct Loan Program: If student borrowers were receiving a valuable return on their investment when they took out student loans, so many of them would not be making so little money that they can only afford to pay small amounts each month.

This particular failing highlights how miserably the Direct Loan Program has failed to achieve its promise of accessible college education and the middle-class quality of life which comes with it. Instead of helping more students access a college education, the Direct Loan Program has incentivized schools to dramatically increase tuition prices, bringing the prospect of affordable education even further out of reach for American students.

Rather than providing students with the sk**ls to obtain high-paying jobs—jobs that make it fairly painless to repay a modest student loan balance—students are increasingly borrowing staggering sums to obtain degrees that barely help them achieve gainful employment. The staggering cost of the Direct Loan Program is yet another reason to retire it. While the program's contribution to the dramatic increase in college tuition prices should be enough to raise concerns, the fact that the program is running hundreds of billions of dollars over budget is even more cause for alarm.

When one pursues a degree in useless programs, it is their poor choice and NOT the responsibility of anyone else to fund their poor choices!

Unbelievable replacement suggested for Speaker of the House

Schiff promoting himself as replacement for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., used his party's made-up "Russia collusion" conspiracy theory against candidate and then President Donald Trump for years.

He repeatedly told hangers-on in the media that he knew for certain Trump's campaign had colluded because he'd seen the evidence.

"Evidence," of course, that special counsel Robert Mueller, with millions of dollars, dozens of investigators and years of time was unable to detect.

But that lack didn't deter Schiff from insisting he'd seen it.

He also made a series of other wild claims, including one that he feared President Trump would give Alaska to Russia, and his performance representing citizens in California prompted then Republican Congressman John Ratcliffe to describe Schiff as helping "Vladimir Putin and Russia with their efforts to sow the seeds of discord in American e******ns" more than anyone else.

At one point, Fox News personality Sean Hannity accused Schiff of being an "old leaker and liar" and colluding with Russians himself.

"We do have evidence of collusion. Russian collusion in plain sight. Alright, let’s look shiftless Schiff. He could easily be talking about himself. Remember when he tried to dig up dirt on President Trump from his own Russian sources? It turns out he was being pranked by a Russian radio personality. He thought he was talking with the Russians. A conspiracy, collusion with the Russians and we actually, Mr. Mueller, we have evidence."

Hannity played a clip of Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, better known as Vovan and Lexus, claiming to Schiff that they had compromising images of a "naked" Trump. Schiff is heard saying that his staff will follow up in order to obtain the materials for the committee and the FBI.

Would Adam Schiff make a good Speaker of the House?
0% (0 V**es)
100% (24 V**es)
Now a report at the Boston Globe is speculating whether Americans could envision that level of intelligence, and dedication to his congressional goals, in the office of the speaker of the House.

"An eleventh-hour push by Representative Adam Schiff, Democrat of California, in recent weeks, has taken Democrats by surprise and raised questions about how the caucus wants to mirror the diversity that makes up its party’s base," the report said.

It continued, "Schiff, who gained notoriety investigating Russia’s involvement in the 2016 e******n before leading the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump, is exploring a bid to lead the House Democratic caucus if Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California, retires after the midterm e******ns, according to more than a dozen House members and top aides who have spoken directly with the congressman."

Both of Pelosi's orchestrated impeach-and-remove attacks against Trump failed. And many critics now consider her partisan committee investigation of the J*** 6, 2021, r**t at the Capitol her third shot, this one aimed at prevent Trump from running in 2024.

The Globe reported the account of Schiff's plan "is based on interviews with eight lawmakers and 18 staff members and lobbyists familiar with leadership dynamics, all of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations."

Lined up to succeed Pelosi, if she goes away, would be candidates including Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Democrat of Maryland, and Rep. James Clyburn, Democrat of South Carolina, and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat of New York.

Now Schiff, with his "overtures," is "planting the seed" that he wants to move into leadership.

"Schiff has also reached out to members in a variety of key blocs in the vast Democratic caucus, including the minority tri-caucuses made up of the powerful Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus," the report said.

The report explained many Democrat v**ers are insisting on a younger and more diverse leadership structure. And Schiff is just what they are wanting to leave behind: at age 62 older, white, and in politics for nearly three decades."

There's widespread skepticism he could gather enough support. And the report noted those interviewed suggested he might have a "prominent" role for the party, just not in leadership.

On Wednesday, pro-life activists Joan Andrews Bell and Lauren Handy were released from an Alexandria, Virginia jail after they spent two weeks in mostly solitary confinement.

The two women, as well as four other pro-life activists, were arrested on November 16, 2021, after conducting a Pink Rose Rescue mission at the Alexandria Women’s Center, the largest a******n provider in the Northern Virginia area.

Most of the activists, including Handy, represented part of the Progressive Anti-A******n Uprising (PAAU), a liberal, feminist, pro-life organization. According to an article from their website, a Pink Rose Rescue is defined as:

A nonviolent direct action in which activists enter a******n businesses, hand out life-affirming literature, pink roses and offer hope and financial resources to the patients at risk of exploitation by the A******n Industrial Complex.

They were convicted of trespassing charges, and Bell and Handy – the leaders of the group – were sentenced to 30 days in jail while the rest were sentenced to four.

The pro-life warriors were released early from their sentence on Wednesday shortly after midnight. Fifteen supporters and Lifesite News were there to greet them.

Bell, founder of The Apostolate Gloria Dei – a Catholic pro-life group, has been arrested over 200 times for saving babies. Handy, Director of Activism for PAAU, has been arrested 30 times.

Asked why she keeps doing this, the 74-year-old Bell replied, “because babies keep dying. And I hope, please God, that soon they’ll stop dying. That’s the only reason.”

“If our little brothers and sisters are being k**led, we can never quit,” she added. “We can never stop trying to defend them.”

When Handy, age 28 at the time of arrest, was asked how she was doing after being in solitary confinement.

“I’m doing really great actually,” Handy responded. “I’m energized, I’m ready to go back out to the streets, and I’m so encouraged by all the many letters people sent me.”

In March, police searched Handy’s house and found five aborted fetuses, according to The Washington Post. Handy had been obtaining the fetuses and other fetal body parts from a medical waste company worker who was taking them from the Washington Surgi-Clinic in D.C. Handy and PAAU founder Terrisa Bukovinac said they’d already buried most of the fetuses in a hidden location with the help of a Catholic priest.

“Rescue is the past, present and future of our movement,” Handy stated.

When asked why does it need to be like that, she replied:

“Because it’s the only way to directly intervene between the oppressor and the oppressed, between the murderer and the baby,” she replied when asked why it needs to be like that. “And radical acts of violence need to be met with radical acts of love.”

When replying to whether there were moments of despair for her when locked up, Handy responded, “You find a sense of peace when you surrender everything to Jesus.”
