Some years ago on a trip to Scotland I had the opportunity to attend the world bagpipe championship. Bagpipe bands from all over the world competed. Awesome!

Chris Christie: DOJ’s chances of succeeding in challenge of special master in Trump case ‘pretty good’

Julia Mueller
Sun, September 11, 2022 at 1:12 PM

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) on Sunday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) has “a pretty good chance” in its appeal of an order for a special master to look over the documents seized by the FBI at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home.

“I think the Justice Department’s chances are pretty good,” Christie said on ABC’s “This Week.”

The Trump team had argued for the special master, alleging some seized documents were protected by executive privilege, and the Trump-appointee judge overseeing the case granted the request, preventing the DOJ from moving forward with its own review of the materials.

“There’s only one executive who can assert the privilege, and that’s the one who is the current executive, Joe Biden. A previous executive can’t assert executive privilege. They’re not the executive any longer,” Christie said Sunday.

“Biden will not assert executive privilege over these documents. And I think the idea that some of these documents are somehow attorney-client privilege is going to be a bit of a reach … So I think, for one, I think the DOJ probably has a pretty good chance on appeal.”

Christie on Sunday also defended the DOJ’s much-critiqued move to search Mar-a-Lago and seize the materials, saying the department “had no choice.”

“It’s not only the nature of the documents. We now have a good idea of the timeline. This has been 16 months that the Department of Justice has been saying please, asking nicely, negotiating with his attorneys, taking up partial production, seeing a non-response to a subpoena. They had no choice, in my view, but to go in and take them, because of the nature of the documents.”

Newly unsealed records show FBI agents found more than 100 classified documents at the Palm Beach, Fla., resort — as well as dozens of empty folders marked as classified in Trump’s personal office.

Christie recalled working with highly sensitive information, the likes of which were found at Mar-a-Lago, during his tenure as a U.S. attorney in New Jersey.

“When I had to review that in the post-9/11 era, I had to go into a special room called the SCIF to review it. I couldn’t take pictures. I couldn’t take anything with me. [Trump] had that in the top drawer at Mar-a-Lago in his desk. That’s a problem. I don’t think he’ll be prosecuted for it, but we ought to get those documents back.”

We know this and its led to an illegitimate Supreme Court in the eyes of the nation when they forced their will on the people by using their authority to go after Roe vs. Wade which they well knew that once sent to the states there would be no v**e on its adoption or not in many, many cases. Even then the Republicans are trying to not give the citizens of their states a choice.

Kamala Harris says she's not confident about the 'integrity' of the Supreme Court: 'I think this is an activist court'

Kamala Harris said the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has made her concerned about the Supreme Court.

"I think this is an activist court," Harris said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press."

The Supreme Court in June overturned Roe v. Wade, reversing a landmark decision that legalized a******n in the US.

Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday said the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has made her worried about the "integrity" of the Supreme Court.

"I think this is an activist court," Harris said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press."

"It means that we had an established right for almost half a century, which is the right of women to make decisions about their own body, as an extension of what we have decided to be, the privacy rights to which all people are entitled," Harris said. "And this court took that constitutional right away. And we are suffering as a nation because of it."

"That causes me great concern about the integrity of the Court overall," she continued.

Her remarks come months after the Supreme Court decided to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark Supreme Court decision that made a******n access a right.

Since May, a******n-rights advocates have feared that the Supreme Court would strike down Roe v. Wade. The fears began when Politico published a leaked draft opinion in which Justice Samuel Alito called the decision "egregiously wrong from the start."

The decision to overturn Roe v. Wade sparked protests nationwide. Since the decision was made public, a slew of prominent individuals has blasted the ruling. Attorney General Merrick Garland also condemned the court's decision, calling it a "devastating blow to reproductive freedom in the United States."

By overturning Roe, the Supreme Court has put the question of the legality of a******n in the hands of individual state legislatures and has essentially made it illegal in at least 22 states to obtain an a******n. There are expected to be added restrictions in several others.

VP Harris is hardly on to speak on integrity considering the way in which she obtained her political career. It distresses you to no end that we have a court that actually goes by the Constitution. Do not speak about v****g rights when you only want Democrats to be allowed to v**e on certain issues.

Democrats Determined Not To Let Republicans Downplay Their MAGA Extremism
Christopher Mathias
Fri, September 9, 2022 at 2:54 PM

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) has released a new campaign ad painting her Republican opponent, Tiffany Smiley, as a MAGA extremist ― a strategy gaining popularity among Democrats seeking to maintain control of the U.S. House and Senate this November.

The 30-second spot, set to air on TVs across Washington state this weekend, features former Army Capt. Chris Franco speaking to the camera about how “MAGA Republicans” like Smiley are an existential threat for American democracy.

“I proudly served our nation and fought for freedom abroad,” Franco, who is from Renton, Washington, says into the camera before the ad cuts to footage of the J*** 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. “I never expected to see our temple of democracy ransacked here at home.”

“It’s so dangerous that MAGA Republicans like Mitch McConnell handpicked candidate Tiffany Smiley continue to question the 2020 e******n,” Franco says, referring to the Senate minority leader. “Their big lie is a direct threat to our e******ns and our democracy. Join me in defending America. Say no to Tiffany Smiley before it is too late.”

Smiley, a nurse and motivational speaker, is in a tight general e******n battle with Murray, a five-term incumbent, in a race seen as crucial to the balance of power in Washington, D.C.

The Republican has appeared to moderate her more hardline positions since advancing in last month’s primary, namely those related to the 2020 e******n. Smiley recently scrubbed her campaign website’s “E******N INTEGRITY” section, which parroted lies pushed by former President Donald Trump about v***r f***d.

Smiley has been photographed with Trump and previously said it would be “awesome” to receive the former president’s endorsement. When CNN’s Dana Bash pressed her during an interview last week about whether President Joe Biden won the 2020 e******n fair and square, Smiley did her best to sidestep the question, acknowledging that Biden is the president without commenting on Trump’s accusations that the e******n was s****n.

Smiley is slated to speak at a GOP event in Yakima County, Washington, this weekend alongside Dinesh D’Souza, the bunk historian and e******n conspir****t. D’Souza’s debunked “documentary” about the 2020 e******n, “2,000 Mules,” will be screened at the event.

Smiley’s campaign didn’t immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment about her appearance at the event, or a request for comment about Murray’s new ad.

Republican candidates across the country have recently shifted their focus from e******n denialism, as Democrats grow more aggressive in painting the GOP as a party overtaken by extremists.

Murray’s ad echoes the line of attack formulated in Biden’s 24-minute prime-time speech delivered from Independence Hall in Philadelphia last week.

“Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic,” Biden said.

After acknowledging that not every Republican is an extremist, Biden added: “But there’s no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans. And that is a threat to this country.”

Murray struck a similar tone in another ad she released last month, in which she recounted her personal experience of the i**********n.

“On J****** 6th, I will never forget the pounding at the door,” the senator said in the ad. “We barricaded ourselves in a small office in the Capitol. The MAGA mob did everything they could to stop the peaceful t******r of p***r.”

“MAGA Republicans want to seize power in this year’s e******n,” Murray continued. “Our democracy is in real danger. It’s up to all of us to save it.”
