You seem to know what you are talking about however your reference to self defense,home defense etc does not clarify whether you are for or against people having guns. I believe the real reason for the 2nd amendment was since there was no formal protection for people it was up to them to provide there own. I am sure unlike Sharpton they would have welcomed a Police Dept rather the muskets
Very well, Sir(?),I did not realize that I had been at all ambiguous when I composed my posting,so for clarification and better understanding,I'll lay it out thus;
I am willing to wager that you weren't brought up in a rural and agricultural environment. One where although there were County Sheriff's Deputies assigned to patrol,you rarely saw them. Compound that fact with this one,that the only telephone in the community was at the Post Office and that said Post Office was,for many residents,at a distance of five miles plus.
Naturally, our rate of incidents involving crimes of a predatory kind was amazingly low,thank God. But whenever a crime like that did take place, there was a very high probability that when a Deputy might finally arrive,he would be filling out a report and arranging for the criminal's carcass to be hauled away. Hooray for the WELL ARMED country folks!
That should satisfy one corner of three in your apparent confusion,Sir(?). On to corner two.
Muskets! Those,along with Kentucky Rifles,were the state of the art in individual AND military weaponry in those times. It's my own opinion that even with paid "police" them folks would have insisted on retaining their muskets.
Applying equivalent logic to modern times, it's my sincere and well thought out opinion that today's citizenry should be perfectly able to arm themselves with state of the art weaponry. As in no,you really don't need a 30 round magazine for deer hunting,but five or ten of 'em loaded with good ammunition are a good place to start when equipping for a potential run-in vs some sort of Federal thugs. And lastly, corner three.
Federal thugs? Yes, that's correct. A term which was almost patently absurd twenty or thirty years ago,but not anymore. BATF, FEMA, DHS,FBI, or whomever may not at this moment be lining up outside your door in one of their locked and loaded daisy chains. But the likelihood increases on a daily basis. It is for the defeat of forces hostile to and intent upon the destruction of liberty that our Second Amendment exists. We,The People need to be,and by Rights have the Duty to be vigilant, stalwart, AND well armed! That cover it?
