They H**e Us, But Who Cares?

In her 1985 speech after receiving the Best Actress Oscar for her role in "Places in the Heart," actress Sally Field famously gushed, "You like me; you really, really like me."

The latest in a long history of surveys examining the public's level of trust in the news media might paraphrase Field's line this way: "You h**e us; you really, really h**e us, but we don't care."

The 2015 State of the First Amendment Survey, a project of the Newseum Institute's First Amendment Center, has "discovered" what most of us could have told them. According to the survey, "Only 24 percent now think that the news media try to report on news without bias. This represents a 17-point drop from last year and a 22-point drop from 2013. In fact, the 24 percent who now say the media try to report news without bias is the lowest since we began asking this question in 2004."

The survey also revealed that Democrats (36 percent) are more likely to think that the news media try to be unbiased than do either Republicans (19 percent) or independents (21 percent).

Though the survey doesn't distinguish between media some regard as conservative and others as liberal, I would venture to guess that Democrats mostly believe the media they consume (broadcast networks, NPR, and CNN) are not biased, while conservatives, who favor Fox News and conservative talk radio as an antidote to what they perceive as an imbalance in the mainstream media, have a different perception. And perception is reality when it comes to ratings and profits.

The downward trajectory of the public's trust in media is not encouraging for those of us in what used to be considered, at least by those in it, as an honorable profession, the only one mentioned in the Constitution, if you don't count government as a profession.

The survey suggests that controversies about NBC News anchor Brian Williams (embellishing and distorting facts) and George Stephanopoulos of ABC News (failure to disclose contributions to the Clinton Foundation) "have taken their toll on news media credibility among Americans. It is also possible that the public is reacting negatively to media coverage of the high-profile events in Ferguson and Baltimore over the past year."

As with previous surveys that have indicated growing public distrust of journalists, even disgust of the news media, there is no response so far from any of the major news organizations, no statement of what they intend to do about it.

No other business operates this way. If a department store is losing customers because of poor se******n and high prices, the store wouldn't tell customers to shop elsewhere if they don't like their products and prices. If it did, it would quickly go out of business. Not so the news media. They lay people off; they reduce the size of their newspapers, but they refuse to acknowledge their biases and do something to win back viewers and readers.

The denial is complete and across the board. When Larry King had a show on CNN and one of these surveys was published, he would have a panel of journalists on to discuss the subject of bias. None would admit to bias, even when callers accused them of it. Instead, they seemed to suggest there must be something wrong with the public's impression of them and thus the information consumer was to blame, which is a far cry from the old retail slogan "the customer is always right."

A healthy journalism is vital to a free society. If the public doesn't trust the news they are getting; if they believe the institution focuses too much on trivialities and distractions instead of consequential things; if they don't believe reporters are being t***hful, then not only is the profession's credibility damaged, the country's stability is, too. And that leads to poor leadership, which is one reason we have so many bad leaders in both parties and at all levels.
They H**e Us, But Who Cares? br br Cal Thomas / J... (show quote)

Journalism is probably the most sacred trust for freedom and democracy that there is. Recently, we have made it a cartoon or entertainment show. Sorry, but Fox News is a notable disgrace in this area, far more than MSNBC but they also fail. Bias was once the greatest sin of all to the media; now bias is profits and righteous, a source, not a sin.

The very idea that the Germans organized and executed a complex conspiracy involving "homicidal gas chambers" and other barbaric, sadistic forms of mass murder designed to exterminate European Jewry during WWII is laughable on its face when you stop and objectively think about it.

National Socialist Germany and her allies were fighting a multi-front war against some of the most powerful nations in the world at the time, including the United States, the British Empire, and the Soviet Union. The idea that they would divert their precious and extremely scarce resources and manpower towards implementing a systematic campaign of mass murder specifically designed to annihilate European Jewry is absurd.

There was no German conspiracy to systematically genocide and destroy European Jewry during WWII. There were no "homicidal gas chambers" utilized to murder Jews and other "undesirables". The system of concentration camps throughout much of Europe developed and administered by the Germans and their allies during WWII was simply a network of labor, t***sit, industrial and detention facilities - not "death camps". Jews, political prisoners and C*******t subversives (many of whom were in fact Jewish), homosexuals and many others were detained and either put to work or imprisoned in German-administered concentration camps and industrial facilities throughout Europe.

These forced laborers and prisoners were well-cared for, at least until the end of the war when Germany's supply lines broke down and chaos ensued as a result of the Soviet and Anglo-American invasion of German territory. They were well-fed, well-provided for, and given medical treatment and entertainment. They were allowed to attend concerts, organize plays, make music and play sports. If the Germans were hell bent on murdering these people, why would they provide medical care for them and allow them to entertain themselves?

The entire WWII narrative, especially the f**e "Holocaust" story, is basically the exact opposite from what we've been told and taught.

You seem to have some rocket booster in you. Sort of blurs clear thought. The "civil war was fought in 1776" is an obvious oversight; on high octane, Civil War and American Revolution are hard to distinguish. Both in country, right? Easy mistake.

The other rambling is hard to sort out. I can only guess that "academics" relate to "Your orthodox ignorance is awe inspiring." Meaning the very clear and massive evidence that the Civil War was supported and started by the South to preserve s***ery is...not to your liking? The South betrayed the United States and k**led its citizens in order to maintain and prosper in the a*********n of s***ery. End of story! No qualifiers. No protests. Another hundred years of lynchings, Jim Crow Laws, and segregation more than proves the point. Once these things were outlawed by the Federal government--the only avenue that could do this--the stalwart "Dixiecrats" of the Democrat Party became Republicans. Sharing Christ with a World That Couldn’t Care Less

8

Someone once quipped that an ambassador is a politician who was not elected to office but was given an office on the condition that he leaves the country![i] When we hear the word ambassador today, we naturally think of an American ambassador to another country. In ancient Rome, an ambassador was a representative of Rome to imperial provinces, sent with a message that declared the terms of peace with the Empire.

While modern people may recoil at the imperialistic imagery, the metaphor of ambassador is a helpful picture of the Christian’s role in evangelism. Paul’s description of himself as Christ’s ambassador in 2 Corinthians 5:20 and its surrounding context, teaches us at least three things about evangelism.

Our Assignment

The basic assignment of an ambassador is to represent the one who sent him, faithfully delivering the message with which he is entrusted.

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. (2 Cor. 5:18-20)

When we share the gospel, we represent the Lord, delivering his message to a world in need of reconciliation. In fact, we work in partnership with God, as he himself appeals to sinners through us (5:20).

Our Message

This passage also teaches us something about the gospel we share: “the message of reconciliation” (5:19). The message includes both the historical events of the death and resurrection of Jesus, and the theological explanation of those events.

The historical events are implicit in the text, for example in verse 15b: “him who for their sake died and was raised.” Paul explicitly defines the gospel in terms of these events in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. But he also explains these events theologically, showing us how God has accomplished reconciliation through the death and resurrection of Christ.

The author and initiator of reconciliation is God himself: “All this is from God” (5:18a). In fact, as John Stott notes, God is the subject of seven verbs in verses 18-21. God is the great actor in salvation. “All is of God,” said William Temple. “The only thing of my very own which I contribute to my redemption is the sin from which I need to be redeemed.”[ii]

If God is the author, Christ is the agent, the one through whom God works to accomplish reconciliation.

· Christ has died for us: For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. (5:14-15)[/quote]

The best way to share Christ is to show Christ in us. As Francis said, "We have to preach the Gospel always, and sometimes we need to use words." Loving kindness to all--TO ALL!-- is a decent start.

Christians have to act in such a way that they represent a clear choice between this world and his kingdom. No confusion. No sermon or stern warnings can achieve that end. The radical nature of this proposal--excuse me, the extremely and highly dangerous radical nature of this proposal--is very difficult to grasp, so difficult only the Little Child can get a handle on it.

I can understand the need to exaggerate and say "99.2 % of society agrees." This is very far from true...in polls. But maybe not in the deeper recesses of the mind. People want to be seen as open-minded and fair, even if they thoroughly disagree. "Look how un-bigoted I am. Aren't I the bee's knees." Honesty will not reach your 99.2% but it will be at least twenty % higher than what we read, making it a majority.

Most who read it are not aware it is not a "get out of jail free" card. Just the opposite. This verse has become the near-motto of recovering addicts and alcoholics, and people in detention centers. They are all looking for special favor to get the results they most desire. And I have witnessed this being sold as a sort of magic spell by a preacher just this evening.

Christ said, "My kingdom is not of this world"--and neither are the things we can do in Christ who strengthens us. His strength is to persevere in joy not matter what the outcome. His strength is to love no matter any threats or obstacles. His strength is to remain in him no matter the pull of worldly attractions or needs.

I was getting ready for sleep when I checked my emails and found this from my younger sister posted five hours earlier. She is clever and liberal enough to have written it but it sounds professional. She gave no source and did not respond to instagram. I will post it anyway because it is thought-provoking and in-your-face for some.

"We might just change our minds about whether we as a nation even want God’s blessing.

Blessed are the poor, Jesus says, not the prosperous.

Blessed are the mourning, not the triumphant.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth, not the imperialist mentality who boast that America is greatest and others should obey its will.

Blessed are the merciful, not the vengeful, not those who refuse food to the hungry or refuge for the immigrant.

Blessed are the pure in heart, not those full of greed, self-interest and manifest destiny.

Blessed are the peacemakers, not the warmongers, the war machine, the might-making-right.

To be a nation blessed by God would be quite a sight to behold indeed.

Somehow, I don’t think this is the kind of blessing politicians and the patriotic are talking about.

In fact, I imagine they’d say asking for this kind of blessing would be downright unpatriotic.

But truly when we say “God Bless America,” this is what we pray for.

My guess is most of us are thankful God’s never exactly answered that prayer."

The 4th is over now, but wouldn't it be awesome if such could have happened. Instead, I am reminded of a political cartoon. A young boy, with "future of America" emblazoned on the back of his T-shirt, is holding his grandfather's hand. The older man and this young boy are watching the fireworks.

"What are we celebrating, grandpa?" the child innocently asks. And the grandfather responds in both wisdom and rememberance: "That we used to be a free country."

Right now, today, every Christian in America needs to be making a "midnight ride of Paul Revere!" If every one of us who knows the Lord would truly stand up to, and speak out against this evil, unscrupulous, treasonous government, and if each one of us would get ten to thirty or more Christians to truly do the same (as well as wake up at least a few or more "asleep at the wheel" Americans), we might make some headway in confronting the assault upon Christians, conservatives, and all unaware Americans -- the assault upon the Constitution of our country and the liberties and the freedoms of this nation which all Americans have enjoyed.

Unfortunately, God's people -- those who really know Him in a personal and communicating relationship in this country -- are but a remnant. Too many so-called professing believers are being duped and deceived. Some are even being led into believing that Judeo/Christianity worships the same god as Islam -- which we do not. Major demoninational churches and huge churches in America are being led astray by their own leaderships and pastors. Ministering to and praying for a Muslim is not the same thing as kowtowing to a Muslim or worshipping the supposedly "same" god of Islam.

This country is a horrible mess, and only if all Christians, true Jews, and Messianic Jews could unite all over this country and converge on Washington in unity, could we make a real statement. It's not going to happen, though. Too many Americans are asleep behind the wheel and don't have a clue what is really happening in this country. Too many Christians are sliding slowly into the doctrines of the Left, or compromising with them, and many of these professing Christians don't have a clue; they're totally unaware.

If we could even get all believing Christians just to humble themselves and pray ...
"When my people who are called by My name shall humble themselves and pray, ...
I will hear from heaven ...
and I will heal their land."

But, how many Christians even take the time to pray sincerely for this country? And, how many are just too busy and self-absorbed or complacently lost in their own little worlds to take the time to bother?

America is now destined to be the late, great America. But, we can't blame this all on the Left or the c*******ts and socialists. Christians stood by, watched, and remained silent while the Secular Humanist religion took over our school systems. Christian parents had no national uprising when evolution first appeared in their children's textbooks. They didn't take notice while their children were indoctrinated with atheism, amorality, and socialism. And, so it is today.

Seems to me like Christian parents would be converging on our public schools, their administrations, and yelling at the government about the homosexual agenda being taught to kids as young as 5 years old in our public schools. Or how about the g****r confusion? Or the Muslim infiltration into the curriculum? Or the socialist/c*******t Common Core education programs?

But, only a few Christian parents around the country are standing their ground. Most remain ominously silent or totally unaware and oblivious.

An evil thief in the night is stealing our children. But, the Day of the Lord, too, will come as a thief in the night, catching far too many off guard, blinded, unprepared, and asleep.

"My sheep hear My voice and they follow me," the Lord tells us.

But, can God's people really save America now? It's really very doubtful. And, perhaps that is Biblical. Is America the mystery Babylon of the Biblical prophecies? It's certainly beginning to look like, quite possibly, it is. America has certainly turned into something much akin to a Sodom and Gomorrah. And, that we can't deny.

Oh, Dear Yeshua (Jesus), pour out your Spirit on the lost one more time in America. Wake up the sleeping. Humble the Christians and bring us to our knees in prayer. Prepare us on Your battle lines and on Your watch towers. And let us not remain silent ...
not at such a time as this. Amen.
The 4th is over now, but wouldn't it be awesome if... (show quote)

With all due respect, your opening cartoon is wrong. The country started out with s***ery, the Declaration of Independence calling the indigenous people "savages" and the country acting for a hundred years to displace or k**l them, and women without rights. We started with a bare minimum of rights, that all went to white land owners. Since this ignominious start, more citizens have gained rights and we are closer to e******y, which is a great thing about this country. Celebrating the Fourth is like celebrating inhumanity. Read the true history of this country. "Manifest Destiny"? Another term for genocide and imperialism.

I suggest we start a march from coast to coast, with a banner stating Leviticus 20:13 and Matthew 19. I suggest we march on Washington, to the capitol building and the white house as well as the supreme court.

We should do it this July 4th, to invoke our freedom as American Citizens and force our elected officials to change the Law!

I suggest we ask friends and neighbors any person who is willing and able to jump in your cars, take a flight and march on Washington DC, in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

I suggest that due to the fact that our enemies are packing that we protect ourselves on this March with weapons so we can exercise our first and second Amendment rights.

On this march I dare the government to do anything. If they arrest us, and if there is enough of us, we will be able to stop these arrests. We want our God-given rights back!

The opponent or our common enemy will state that "We still have our rights" but according to what is happening all over the country we are being persecuted. Look at Baltimore and Ferguson. We were abused since 1973, that is 40 years of abuse, and according to the Declaration of Independence, "after a long train of abuse it is right for the people to retake their government and institute new government based upon the founding principles of the old government."

And since these abuses are hurting the American people all over the place, economically especially it is time for us to march.

Give me Liberty or give me Death!

What would Obama do, if tens upon millions of Christians are marching outside the white house? We should also call up all the m*****as to help provide security for our march! Should the president call in the military, Our m*****as will enter into the White House, and at that point we should as one people charge President Obama with treason!

It is time for all Christians to come to the aid of their kingdom: care and love for the least of these and forget about the rest. Stand ye still, you do not have to fight this battle, put away your sword; your kingdom is not of this world. If it were, you would fight. Your battle with the state is enmity against God. It is making friends with the ways of the world. You are not first and foremost a citizen of heaven, you are only and with no other allegiance than a citizen of heaven. A "citizen of heaven" is not some flowery phrase or poetic metaphor but reveals the exact nature of who you are and how you live your life. Arresting Obama does not change hearts; it gives yeast to our approach to being. As inspiring as this post is, and it is very moving and convincing, I personally feel it does a direct disservice to our purpose on earth. Waste time saving souls to boast a victory over secular society, that is lost? There is not a tic on the clock that should be wasted on such foolery.
