THE POWER OF PRAYER

PHILIPPIANS 4:13

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

Have you ever been so tired you thought you just could not keep going, yet, you had to go on. How do you think a soldier feels when he's in the heat of battle? There are no rest breaks when the enemy is firing weapons at you. Right now there is a post on OPP, that refers to such a man who refused to stop. It is entitled "for nam vets." It's about Captain Ed Freeman, a Medal of Honor Recipient. It had to be by the grace of God he was able to keep flying back to rescue the wounded. It's worth the read. It's also worth your time to keep our military in your prayers.

Chances are, you will not be in a life or death situation, but there may be a time when someone else is depending on you. It could be you are caring for a dying relative, and you feel you just can't keep going. You can always turn to God, and remember this short verse - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." It just may surprise you how far you can push yourself.

May God bless our nation once again with Christians leaders
May He keep our military in His gracious care.
May He open the eyes of our people.
May He bless your day. Amen.

Curious. This is becoming a very popular quote. I was at a meeting in a recovery house and at a detention center where several in the crowd at both started to lecture on what this verse meant. To them, it was almost like a prosperity incantation to grant their every wish and desire. A spell to defeat failure and all obstacles to their intended goals. Case dismissed, get my children back, get hired, pass this test, don't go to jail, and so forth. Christ may find a way to do all those things...if it is for the best, to the working of his kingdom and that person's soul. But this is not what that verse is talking about. If read in context, Paul is talking about spiritual matters, remaining faithful and true despite both failures and successes. What is possible is to remain true to Christ who strengthens us no matter what the outcome, not that he will make things all better and easy if we believe. "All things" are of his will and design, not of my desires and needs. It is not a Cadillac or even a bicycle.

Case in point - the martyrs in the Middle East.
I realize it is not a 'get out of jail' Monopoly card, as I'm sure most who read it are aware of.

Most who read it are not aware it is not a "get out of jail free" card. Just the opposite. This verse has become the near-motto of recovering addicts and alcoholics, and people in detention centers. They are all looking for special favor to get the results they most desire. And I have witnessed this being sold as a sort of magic spell by a preacher just this evening.

Christ said, "My kingdom is not of this world"--and neither are the things we can do in Christ who strengthens us. His strength is to persevere in joy not matter what the outcome. His strength is to love no matter any threats or obstacles. His strength is to remain in him no matter the pull of worldly attractions or needs.

Those who may be looking for a 'quick fix card,' probably are not the ones who read this, although they should be - and then compare their need to the two cited.

To your definition of Christ's kingdom
