Obama tears into reporter for asking about Americans imprisoned in Iran

By T. Becket Adams•7/15/15 3:00 PM
President Obama was displeased Wednesday afternoon when a reporter asked him how the White House could celebrate its nuclear deal with Tehran when four Americans are languishing in Iranian captivity.

CBS News' Major Garrett questioned the president during a scheduled White House press briefing on the Obama administration's recently announced nuclear deal with Iran.

"As you well know there are four Americans in Iran. Three held on trumped-up charges, according to your administration, and one whereabouts unknown," he said, referring to Christian pastor Saeed Abedini, retired U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati, Washington Post Tehran bureau chief Jason Rezaian and former FBI agent Robert Levinson, who went missing in Iran years ago.

Garrett continued, "Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content with all the fanfare around this deal to leave the conscience of this nation, the strength of this nation, unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?"

The president at first seemed at a loss for words, but eventually responded to the CBS News reporter with criticism.

"I got to give you credit, Major, for how you craft those questions. The notion that I am content as I celebrate with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails — Major, that's nonsense and you should know better," Obama said.

"I've met with the families of some of those folks. Nobody's content," he added.

Garret responded to the president's criticism after the briefing, explaining that he intended to be "provocative."

"Sometimes you have to take a scolding from a president to get to an answer," he said during a CBS News live report. "That's part of my job."

"Politics, especially those elected as president, are very adept at creating straw men … that's exactly what the president did," he added. "Clearly it struck a nerve. That was my intention. Was it provocative? Yes. Was it intended to be as such? Absolutely."

Garrett added that he found it odd that the White House agreed to a deal that does nothing for the four imprisoned Americans, even as the administration has said repeatedly that it's not "content" with leaving them behind.

The deal struck between the United States and Iran, the product of some 20 months of negotiations, has the United States agreeing to ease economic sanctions in return for guarantees that the state sponsor of terrorism will pursue nuclear power for peaceful purposes only.

The agreement does not, however, do anything for the four imprisoned Americans.

Secretary of State Jon Kerry conceded as much this week when he said in reference to the deal announced Tuesday, "[W]e continue to call on Iran to immediately release the detained U.S. citizens. These Americans have remained in our thoughts throughout this negotiation, and we will continue to work for their safe and their swift return. And we urge Iran to bring our missing Americans home as well."

As for my faith, one only need compare worldwide headlines next to Bible prophecy too know God the creator of man, is alive and well. His Word never fails and time is short for the world that rejects him to turn their hearts, or face the full wrath coming upon the world just as prophesied. I don't hind behind my beliefs and faith, rather proclaim it. The left has given satan a foothold into america with their agenda to remove God and replace him with support of gays, a******n, corruption, demoralizing america. Those whom support such, and praise obama, Anti-christian, Anti-Israel are a part of the force that has destroyed america, and I would be remiss should I not include our most recent republican elected officials.
In closing it it fact that race relations since obama are at there lowest since the 60's, which has proven under his leadership to be the great divider, not united we stand.
Continue with your bitterness, h**e, irrational "your a r****t" towards those who disagree with you, or believe obama sucks as a president. Based on your replies that means 100% of anyone that crosses your path. You may want to review your post, and all the replies and perhaps see your narcissism confines your ability in taking responsibility for being r****t towards people that have nothing, zero, zilch in their replies to indicate they are.

Indoctrination is one of our great curses to our nation. Thinking for oneself, searching for t***h often hidden in the halls of our schools and universities.

One undeniably t***h is the state of our economy. Now over three months vacation traveling from Washington state and now in Amarillo texas. Russia and Iran sealing a treaty, which didn't seem possible until the last decade. The increased attention of Jordan and Syria, with Obama's " don't cross red line" in the sand with perpetually moving lines, then utterly disappearing. The inaction of obama against ISIS and even supplying ISIS with weapons. Obama poking the very capable Bear in the eye over the Ukraine, and setting sanctions against Russia, that became crippling. Then the grand finally of obama kicking Israel to the curb, supporting sanctions against Israel. Sending campaign specialist and millions of dollars to fix the e******ns in Israel (which failed). I would say the stage if fully/completely set and could easily see fulfilled pre-rapture.

Rightie? I'm an independent v**er with conservative beliefs on social issues and moderate on fiscal issues, grounded in my christian faith, Jesus my Lord, saviour, son of God, God come in the flesh to redeem mankind.
As for your and others interactions, I find no room for personal attacks of anyone's person, but am guilty myself of pushing button's, being caddy, which also distracts from any honest effort in maintaining the t***h, facts, and evidence of debate.
What your asking is no more reasonable than holding your feet to the fire for negative responses I receive from "lefties". Having or sharing a common political view, does not imply the same levels of ethics or morals and in the specific instance r****m which I do not share. I believe racially motivated slurs/attacks are founded on ignorance, and have no tolerance for h**e.
Based on the liberal definition of loathing the occupant of the Oval office, any (anyone) that has diametrically opposing views/beliefs of obama and his policies, believes he is destroying our country, freedoms, rights and so on, a ND on is a r****t (period). While I find the liberal definition folly, by the liberal's definition I am r****t, regardless of my grounded biblical beliefs.

That would be page 2, conversation 3.
Past that now.
As far as comments to Kennedy, Justice or injustice Kennedy was basing his decision on the 14th Amendment, as we're his fellow injustices.

"An amendment to the United States Constitution, adopted in 1868. It was primarilyconcerned with details of reintegrating the southern states after the Civil War and definingsome of the rights of recently freed s***es. The first section of the amendment, however,was to revolutionize federalism. It stated that no state could “deprive any person of life,liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within itsjurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”
The injustices twisted an amendment written during our historic period in protection of freed s***es, in turn became political by definition, ignoring their purpose and function as Supreme Court Justices to define and uphold the Constitution and bill of rights. This seems to be a new trend with the latest appointments, that is to taunt with treasonous decisions outside the scope of their purpose and intent.
While not defending Scalia's wording, from a legal position I find no possibility other than in defending his position and intent.

The Bible contains many vivid descriptions of something that did not exist until the middle of the 20th century - thermonuclear war. Led by the United States, the world just took a huge step toward that predicted nuclear apocalypse, the days of Antichrist, and "the time of Jacob's trouble." The deal with Iran is that bad.

When I began to study Bible prophecy over 60 years ago, I saw signs even then that we were approaching the end of the age. I knew that I might very well live to see days like this one - days when my own beloved country would help usher in and facilitate unthinkable evil. But knowing in advance doesn't mitigate the pain of seeing it before my own eyes.

Many of those who believe the P5+1 deal with Iran is a mistake, take solace in the fact that in the United States, the deal must pass Congress. To keep the U.S. sanctions intact will require a supermajority v****g to keep them. Opponents of the deal have a chance to get enough v**es to keep America's sanctions in place. But in the big picture, it probably matters very little. Sanctions only work if they are done in concert with other nations, and I think this deal effectively ends Iranian sanctions for most nations.

Iran has a long history of simply disregarding parts of agreements that it doesn't want to follow. And the P5+1 nations have a history of ignoring such violations. I don't expect Iran to follow the agreement, but they're getting an amazingly good deal. It will allow them to have nuclear weapons whether they c***t or not. If they follow the agreement, they can prepare for nuclear weapons production now, and start actually building their nuclear arsenal in just ten years. And we must keep in mind that it is an arsenal we're talking about, not just a single bomb.

President Barrack Obama today said, "We have stopped the spread of nuclear weapons in this region."

I'm sure he hopes that's true, and that his will be a legacy of peace. But this agreement would only stop the spread of nuclear weapons in the region if it stops Iran, and if the other nations in that region believe that it will stop Iran. But there's nothing in this agreement to make them think that. Their interpretation will be that, sometime in the near future, their aggressively antagonistic neighbor will become a nuclear power. What are they going to do? What can they do?

Even ten years is a blink of history's eye. The other nations of the region will see ten years as the outermost deadline for building their own nuclear arsenals. Because they knew this was coming, several have already been at work on the project. But the existence of an actual agreement will spur them on.

Sunni nations like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Jordan, the UAE, and Qatar feel threatened by Iran. And it's not just paranoia. Iran has been exporting their Shia Muslim revolution for decades now, and it's beginning to really take hold. With Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and now Yemen largely under Iran's control, Saudi Arabia is almost surrounded.

With President Bashar al-Assad now in Iran's pocket, and Hezbollah dependent on them, Iran is already at Israel's door. In May, Haaretz reported, "As-Safir, known for its pro-Hezbollah stance, revealed that the terrorist group has large amounts of forces stationed near the Israel-Lebanon border, as well as numerous tunnels, bunkers and surveillance equipment, in addition to tens of thousands of rockets."

Who built those tens of thousands of rockets, and gave them to Hezbollah? IRAN.

Iran already partially controls the world's two most vulnerable oil choke points - the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Aden. When Iranian oil is suddenly dumped into the world marketplace, we can expect oil prices to drop dramatically. But they already have the ability to choke off a huge part of the world's oil supply of they choose. In a few months, you may be driving with $2-a-gallon gas. But in a few years, you may be taking out a second mortgage just to get a fill-up.

We need to see that the Iranian threat is not just to Israel, but to civilization itself across the globe.

The thermonuclear threat now looms large over the Middle East. But we shouldn't be surprised. The Bible warned us. Zechariah 14:12 gives one of the more memorable prophecies. How would a person in the 6th century BC describe a nuclear blast's effect on a human body? Like this. "Now this will be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth."

The Great Tribulation is obviously close. Christians can count on the LORD taking us out before the extreme trouble comes. Since in the Bible's timetable, the Rapture comes before that, we should be looking up with renewed expectancy. We should be praying fervently, and witnessing with urgency. We need to be busy doing those things that matter most. We don't have much time left. Thank God that before nuclear weapons destroy Israel, the LORD will miraculously save Israel from destruction.

That is promised by the LORD in these verses; Zechariah 12:7-15 and 13:8-9. GOD KEEPS HIS WORD!
