I was born in 1950 and I remember the nickel cokes, they were 8 oz. bottles and had quite a bit more bite than the coke today. I remember all but pumping gas but had seen those pumps when I was a kid. I also remember paying .23-.28 cents for gas. Mike

I was born in 1947 so I am an old fart but, I remember all of these except the one about “pumping the number of gallons up —-“ and the one about a bottle of coke for a nickel. I remember a coke for a quarter but not for a nickel. I guess those two were a bit before my time. Thanx for the memories !!

Miss Mary, I agree with you. I love your last sentence. Hope you will indulge me with a story that will let you and I hope other women know why I feel the way I feel about that statement. My family were all home for a Holiday. My Mother had forgotten something and needed to go to town. I took her, because I was just back from Iraq and I had missed her so much. Gave us alone time. While in the Piggly Wiggly, she and another women started talking. The women said something that pissed my Mother off. Mom let into her. Town is seven miles from home, all the whole way back I'm trying to calm my Mother down. When we got back to the house, she was still upset. I'm the oldest, have three younger sisters. When Mom told my sisters what had happened, my middle sister said, "Mom, you shouldn't have said that.". She stopped, got those Mamma eyes. And said," I'm 83 years old, I've earned the right to say anything I want to say. T***h is the T***h.". What I'm saying Miss Mary, at 80 you have earned the right to say what you want to say. Sad that the younger generation will not listen to your wisdom. My Mother is 83. I'm 63. Right now if my Mother told be to go cut a switch. I would do it, and I would let her use it. Wife's come and go. We only get one Mother.

No sir, I don't wonder, been there, haven't seen what you've seen and don't want to. Thank you on my knees for your service. I saw enough as a non-combatant, would gross out a maggot. We need to send the tenderfoots overseas for a couple of years, I don't care if they plan on being doctors or hair designers, the snowflakes need to see what is really going on out side of our protective walls. I will tell you this, They'll be screaming for a wall.

Thank you Sarge and your guys for keeping mine safe, God bless you guys and the guys still out there doing the same. It's funny, I come from a Military family so I understand but the majority in this Country don't understand what the Military Family gives up to protect them. They have no clue of 6 to 8 to 12 month employments. Where kids grow up with parents missing, multiple employments where the Mom or Dad are missing from the Birthday, Christmas, Easter, etc. Most people don't understand a man coming home from a couple of years at war and trying to deal with three kids. He's been use to telling grown men to jump and they will know exactly how high and then he has to deal with three brats from two to four. The other thing is the deployment cause pregnancies. Every deployment creates a baby, the curse of being Military.

Sarge, I again thank you for your protection. I did Nam 8/68 but as a civi, dropping ammo to the guys. Got to meet the ROCs. Very impressive. Thanks, Mike

I agree. The Army has a program, SHARP. Sexual Harassment And Rape Prevention. I took a very demanding eighty hour course. I was the Battalion Rep, each Company had a Rep. This was when we were in Afghanistan. This was probably the hardest duty I was tasked in my thirty eight years. So, I understand exactly the difference that you are stating. Any situation I was aware of. If a situation couldn't be handled on a Company level. Then it was kicked up to me. You would not believe some of things we had to deal with. One of the hardest was a Man on Man Rape. Some cases were bulls**t and we had to investigate and find the t***h. People wonder why I'm grey-headed, my hands shake and I drink.

I am speaking as a woman who had to keep a job but did not allow my ambition to blind me. I'm also a woman who would've immediately gone to the authorities if I wasn't able to enforce those boundaries myself. My point of this post is to point out that there is a big stink about people who ARE able to choose for themselves and not a peep about those that truly are victims. Sheer hypocrisy.

I couldn't agree with you more. Ca. is a beautiful State and it's a pity it's being run into the ground. There was a map of the proposed area and basically the old Ca. was a chunk of the coast from just north of San Fran south to the boarder. Of course there would be a huge fight as the bread basket of the State would be in New Ca. Hey, at least someone is trying and as with the President some times the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Good luck PR. Mike

Disgruntled California residents want to establish a 51st state — and they want to call it New California.

Organizers of the movement say the Golden State has become "ungovernable," and claim that the U.S. Constitution gives them the right to do something about it.

"We are not changing the country, we are adding to it," co-founder of the movement Paul Preston told the Daily News on Tuesday. "We are forming a new state, we want to become the 51st state."

"New California" would include most of the rural areas in the state — organizers provided a detailed map of what it would look like.

Preston emphasizes that the leaders of the movement do not want to leave the U.S., just make it better. He believes that rural areas are virtually ignored and don't have proper representation.

"California does not provide for its citizens a Republican form of government," Preston tells The News. "We are over-taxed, the education system is beaten down, our business climate is terrible. We have massive numbers of homeless people in California that is not being addressed."

The group issued a formal Declaration of Independence on Monday.
