It is my opinion that much of the discourse on OPP is honest enough, though highly combative in nature. I believe that posters usually simply disagree as a result of having different perspectives acquired from their life experiences. The problems in discourse may very well lie in the likelihood that political exchanges can be and often are similar in passion to religious discussions.

Imagine, if you will, a rabbi, priest or pastor trying to convince the others of their religious convictions or beliefs with the hopeful result of a spiritual or theological conversion. As respected as each of the three aforementioned may be, the odds are strongly against that coming to fruition as the result of their efforts. And, partisan/ideological zealots generally approach those with opposing political views with the fervor of religious evangelists.

As a result, on OPP, it often appears not enough for a true believer to believe as they do. All others must also believe, or the offended may become self-righteous, indignant or even angry, bitter and vindictive. Thus, OPP's political discourse often ends in being similar to the story of the boy who angrily takes his football home with him due to others not playing by his rules.

I close with a favorite quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin: "If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins."
It is my opinion that much of the discourse on OPP... (show quote)

The problem is that the usual post is an opinion expressed without facts sustaining the opinion. That opinion is countered by another fact-free opinion. Not very interesting.

Most of these posters don't need facts. They would only get in the way.

Do you remember these songs:

My Sweet Lord- George Harrison
Let it be- John Lennon
Imagine- John Lennon
We are the world- Michael Jackson
Sound of Silence- Simon and Garfunkel
Losing My Religion- REM
Hey Jude- The Beatles
Something to Believe in- Poison
Band on the Run- Paul McCartney
Help!-Beatles
These songs show what America is. They express a love, that only America can give. Have we lost our minds!

Out of the ashes of the Cold War, tempered by terrorism, came forth a new generation of Americans. These Americans are filling the void of Generation X, The Baby-boomers, the Hippies and the Yuppies. Are you an American who remembers a time when we, Americans, did "Love one another"?

To the liberal socialist progressives, let me say to you: Remember Adolf Hitler.
Hitler ran on a f*****t ticket of socialism through marxism. In Germany he was part of the progressive liberal movement.

To the rest of us, what caused us to get to where we are? Do we still 'Love Thy Neighbor'?

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr loved America. Simon and Garfunkel loved America. Michael Jackson and many 1980s musicians, singers, song-writers, actors and actresses loved America. Ronald Reagan told Gorbachev to "Tear down the Berlin Wall" which he did in 1989.

But today, human comerateray, brotherhood, and charity is being portrayed as a distant dream.
John Lennon sings Imagine. In that song he says imagine a world with no possessions, no death, no heaven or hell. He explores a world, a life, with no negative feelings just love. Why can't we have that today?

Has the p***e of the Obama and Clinton administrations turned the warm hearts of Americans cold?

Does the hatred of a man, by the name of Donald Trump, totally destroy the actions of reason?

Donald Trump simply wants to do one thing: Lead the country in prosperity and safety. It is a simple, yet noble cause: Make America Great. The p***e and false confidence in 'We are already great' has finally faded into the past. It fades, because of a simple principle, "You are only as great as your performance at your last job"

Listen to the song of silence, that is where we are headed. We, America, will destroy ourselves. Donald Trump has helped this country yet people are still against him. Why?

Shall we journey to the past? Two years ago in 2016, Donald started running for president, and it seemed like it was a joke. But a hatred of him arose. A unsubstantiated hatred. Good God, if the principle of 'Love Thy Neighbor' was still alive, Donald Trump would be loved not h**ed.

The proof is in the pudding. A man must be judged by both the good and evil the man does. Some lines can be crossed while others cannot. But in this time and place, the hatred is going to cause a civil war. Don't think it could happen?

In 1859 Dred Scott was decided. By 1860 the Southern states had declared secession from the union of states, because the northern states did not abide by the constitution. Congress v**ed to go to war to preserve the union of states. Are we refusing to remember this?

Remember Billy Joel with 'We didn't Start the Fire'? Now before us, we have the Executive Branch of government being obstructed in violation of the Constitution. Many people say read Article I of the Constitution, I have. But have they read Article II or III for that matter.

I can write until I am blue in the face. I can argue for Justice, freedom, and the American way. But all of that is just words and deeds swept away by the wind. It is meaningless if no one will take heed on to the words I speak and write.

Some Americans hear the words but do not listen. So the solution is Socialism? What a big mistake! N**i Germany was Socialist on the side of F*****m. The USSR, the union of the soviet socialist republic, was socialist on the side of c*******m. America is Capitalist and Democratic but most importantly it is a free republic. We are the manufacturers of life, liberty, freedom, prosperity and justice. We are fair! The media is not. Lobbyists are not.

Now is the time when it all comes to a head. Where will you be? What will you be? Will you be a s***e or free? Donald is leading us to freedom. His enemies are leading us to s***ery. What do you want? Do you want to be free to decide your destiny or ens***ed in a ruling class of people. It is your choice. Either we become the world as Michael Jackson says, and we Let it be, like John Lennon wrote. While 'Mother Mary speaking words of wisdom' or we end up creating our own destruction. What say you America?!
I really don't know if anyone will read this but h... (show quote)

FREE LUNCH!

Currently, over 75% of applications for military service are rejected for reasons of health and/or education. The cure? Finance patients and students the same way we finance soldiers: within the defense budget (where costs vanish!), with enough accountants, auditors, and sheriffs to cut out waste, fraud, and abuse. (Yes! American families should still be able to buy their own health care and education in a totally free market, independently of any government program!)

For our defense, we need totally free healthcare for all and expense-paid education up to PhD! Cost? Other nations have government-financed healthcare and education with costs lower than those now saddled upon our young and old. With inflation controlled by the Fed and by federal income tax, we can indeed afford all our needs! Any federal tax increase will be trumped by the increased deficit spending (really, our annual after-tax savings, equal to our imports plus the annual net increase in our domestic bank savings!) So, deficit spending is cash in the bank!

Yes! After-tax savings do indeed bring prosperity! World War II spending gave us our suburbs and 30 years of prosperity. Spending on the Marshall Plan, Korean War, Cold War, NASA, nuclear energy, Vietnam, etc., also contributed to post-war prosperity. Ask your grandmother!

Federal debt? As explained* by Ben S. Bernanke, Princeton economist and former Fed Chair, the Fed, with Congress’ OK, can buy the federal debt directly from the Treasury! No problem!

With Social Security numbers identifying individuals, computers can manage everything with minimum personnel. Congress can negotiate prices and fees for all goods and services, pay everyone their just worth, and never ever send a service bill to a patient or to a student!

Yes, there will be growing pains! Education will soon have all the necessary resources but healthcare will suffer scarcities, such as dentists, never seen by many of our poor. And there will not be enough rural hospitals and doctors. Until the system is fully grown, shortages will require a program of triage to set priorities. So, “Free Lunch” healthcare will have to be implemented gradually, waiting for the graduates of “Free Lunch” education to fill the gaps in medical service!

Let’s start now by extending our Medicare to children up to age 19 and to all students. With their good health, we need only augment the current system. Annually, let’s increase the entry age by two years (age 19 to age 21) and decrease the entry age by two years (age 67 to age 65). When possible, annually increase/decrease by three or more years, until EVERYONE has current Medicare. Then, dump the health insurance industry and declare all healthcare and education, with neighborhood nurseries, day-care, and Pre-K, to be totally free, cradle to grave!

Within ten years or so, if we can educate and build like China, there may be enough medical resources for slack to appear. By then, there should also be no more sk**led labor shortages. And much of our huge prison population could and should be trained to care for sick and old.

Totally free healthcare for all and totally free education at all levels, with just enough taxation to prevent harmful inflation, will increase deficit spending (after-tax savings!) and prosperity! Dump all the deficit hawks! Elect Social Democrats! Make America REALLY Great and Totally Free!

https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/trump-tax-cuts-federal-revenues-deficits/

How Congressional Spending and Taxing Affects our Economy

Congress’ unlimited spending powers, fiat currency, floating currency exchange rates, and quasi-permanent federal income* tax brackets have the following consequences:

1. For a given set of federal income tax brackets, the ratio of annual federal income tax revenue to total annual Congressional spending is fairly constant, increasing slightly with spending, from which federal income tax revenue may be accurately predicted.
2. Planning a Congressional budget is a meaningless task since there is no spending limit and, with fixed tax rates, the tax revenue is effectively determined by the spending.
3. For a given tariff/trading policy and assuming gradual and similar technological improvement rates among trading partners, the ratio of domestic after-tax savings (a.k.a. "deficit spending" deposited in US banks) to total after-tax savings (including deposits in foreign banks) changes slowly.
4. The primary goal of the economy is the improvement of infrastructure which determines the security and quality of life of our future generations.
5. The improvement of infrastructure is directly related to the increase of Congressional spending on infrastructure and to the increase of annual after-tax savings.
6. The amount of Congressional spending is limited only by the onset of harmful inflation (> 3% annually). When due to excessive bank credit, inflation is controlled by the Fed’s federal fund interest rate. Inflation due to a shortage of strategic materials (oil, etc.) can be limited only by rationing and price controls. Inflation due to shortages of sk**led labor can be limited by free, expense-paid education (including crafts) for all. Inflation due to shortages of important commodities can be limited only by planning production levels.
7. Inflation is directly related to the scarcity of physical resources and, therefore, to the amount of Congressional spending (almost entirely on physical resources).
8. Inflation is inversely related to annual federal income tax revenue and to the ratio defined in paragraph 1. To decrease the risk of inflation, Congress must either spend less on infrastructure or increase federal income tax rates. To maximize the improvement of infrastructure, Congress must maximize both annual spending on infrastructure and federal income tax rates. Cutting Congressional spending or cutting federal income tax rates decreases the potential level of infrastructure quality/quantity.
9. Thus, there is an inverse relationship between the state of our infrastructure and the profits of private enterprise gained by reduction of federal income tax rates.
10. Prosperity increases directly with both the state of our infrastructure and the domestic per capita after-tax savings, both of which vary directly with Congressional spending and with federal income tax rates that permit higher Congressional spending.
*Statements referring to federal income tax apply equally to federal estate tax.

FREE LUNCH!

For our defense, we need totally free healthcare for all and expense-paid education at all levels. Currently, over 75% of applications for military service are rejected for reasons of health and/or education. The cure? Finance patients and students exactly as we finance soldiers! It could well be part of the defense budget (where it may escape notice!), with an army of auditors and sheriffs to fight waste, fraud, and abuse. Of course, without question, every family should always be able to buy their own healthcare and education in a totally free marketplace!

Cost? Other nations have government-supported healthcare and education with lower costs than those now saddled upon our old and young. Anyway, our problem is NEVER availability of money but rather inflation, which the Fed controls. If necessary, Congress could increase taxes, which should not be our major concern. It’s after-tax earnings that matter most and that’s what “deficit spending” really is: the annual net increase in private savings, domestic and foreign.

And of course, after-tax earnings bring prosperity! World War II spending created our suburbs and gave us 30 years of prosperity. Spending on the Marshall Plan, the Korean War, Cold War rearmament, nuclear energy, NASA, Vietnam, etc., also contributed to our post-war prosperity.

Federal debt? As explained* by Ben Bernanke, Princeton U. economist and ex-Fed Chair, the Fed, with consent of Congress, can buy federal debt directly from the Treasury! No problem!

With Social Security numbers identifying all individuals, computers would manage everything with minimum personnel. Congress would negotiate prices and fees for all goods and services, pay everyone their just worth, and never ever send a bill for service to a patient or to a student!

Yes, there will be growing pains! The first “Free Lunch” problem will be the scarcity of physical resources, especially dentists, whom many of our poor have never seen. And there will not be enough rural hospitals and doctors. Until the system is fully grown, such scarcity will require a process of triage to set priorities. That is why “Free Lunch” would be implemented gradually!

Education now has or soon will have all the needed resources but healthcare will be lacking. In ten years or so, if we can teach doctors and build like China, there may be enough medical resources for slack to appear. By then, there should also be no more sk**led labor shortages. And much of our huge prison population could and should be trained to care for sick and old.

Let’s start now by extending Medicare to children up to age 19 and to students up to age 30. We need only augment our current system. Annually, we should increase the entry age for Medicare one year (age 19 to age 20) and decrease the entry age for Medicare one year (age 67 to age 66). When possible, annually increase/decrease by two or more years, until EVERYONE has Medicare. Then, fire the health insurance industry and declare all healthcare and all education, including neighborhood nurseries, day-care, and pre-K to be totally free, cradle to the grave!

Totally free education at all levels and totally free healthcare for all with just enough taxation to prevent inflation will create high deficit spending (= high after-tax earnings!) and prosperity!
Fire the deficit hawks! Elect Social Democrats! Make America REALLY Great and Totally Free!

In the alternative universe that orbits around the Clintons and the establishment career, political cronies of Washington, D.C., the rule of equal judicial law does not apply. Allegations of pay to play have dogged the Clintons for years, reaching its zenith during Hillary Clinton’s tenure as Secretary of State. Along with numerous reports of other countries making sizable donations into the Clinton Foundation in order to receive preferential treatment with the Obama Administration. The biggest disaster from the viewpoint of national security was the Uranium One deal with the Russians, giving Russia a large portion of the United States uranium. A deal that had to be signed off by then President Obama and most of the Obama Administration’s state, security agencies and justice department directors.

You would think such behavior would be front and center in the news, but it’s not, the Press acts as an enabler by looking the other way or acting as a supporter. The press slobbers over all things Obama and Clinton but will snarl at anything that’s in the middle of the road or remotely to the right. The so-called Department of Justice also looks the other way, ignoring cover-ups, destruction of evidence and has been involved install tactics that have stopped Republican congressional investigations in their tracks. The old crony establishment politicians from both parties are doing their best to protect each other by sweeping things under the rug. During the ongoing Russian Collusion witch hunt that is going after President Trump, the Department of Justice leadership ignored all things Clinton but aided the witch hunt to depose the establishment outsider Donald Trump.

This kind of corruption festers among career politicians who entire focus is getting re-elected and what’s in it for them, the only way to curtail this behavior is term limits. They come to the Congress deep in debt owing to their big donors and they leave years later as multi-millionaires. Some of these bought and paid for denizens of the Washington Swamp have parked in Congress from 20-40 years, they live in the Washington D.C. area and rarely visit the districts that they are supposed to represent. When we get a politician who is really trying to do the right thing, they are alienated, crushed and finally spit out after a couple of terms by the establishment, good old boy politicians.

Buried underneath all of the corruption is the specter of socialism operating with the express purpose of establishing a socialist government in the U.S. Starting with former President Obama, who was raised in a family of c*******t revolutionaries and socialist. The former head of the C.I.A., Brennan supported c*******m and never should have had a security clearance. Then there is Hillary Clinton who embraced Saul Alinsky’s brand of Soviet Union Socialism as his college intern. And we can’t forget self-proclaimed socialist Senator Bernie Sanders, who is preaching socialist doctrine.

There are two camps of socialism vying for control of the U.S., those who seek international socialism that is controlled by the despots of the United Nations and those who want the single-party system of National Socialism in the U.S. They are able to operate virtually unhindered by corrupt politicians who could care less and are out to enrich themselves, enjoying all of the trappings of power of the office that they squat in has to offer. The only way to stop this behavior is to inform the public of the dangers of left-wing socialism, expose and throw out the derelict and corrupt politicians, and v**e in those who will honor the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

I wonder if their opposition to the proposed U.S.-Mexico barrier has anything to do with President Trump advocating for it (nudge, wink).

125 miles plus a small army to watch it is not 1,000 miles and no army.

A jeep loaded with acetylene torch equipment could drive right through a metal fence. A Chinese wall one thousand miles long would be in eminent domain court for a generation.

We should vastly increase steeply progressive estate taxes. Nobody should inherit enough money to buy the prostitutes in Congress. That is simply corruption. Ten million dollars should be the limit inherited by any family member.

Sponsor of VA’s Radical A******n Bill Introduced Bug Protection Bill on Same Day

On the same day that Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran introduced a bill that would legalize a******n up until the moment of birth, she also proposed a bill to protect a bug.

“This bill helps to save our birds and butterflies by protecting the fall cankerworm (caterpillar), an important food source for birds and their young during their breeding and migratory season,” Tran’s campaign website explains.

The bill, which was filed Jan. 9, would ban communities from spraying to eliminate cankerworms between March 1 and Aug. 1. The proposal is under consideration in the House of Delegates.

Tran’s cankerworm bill received far less noticed than a bill she also filed the same day that would change the rules for late-term a******ns. Tran said the bill “eliminates medically unnecessary and unduly burdensome requirements that make it difficult for women to access a******ns.”

A video of her comments in support of the bill was posted on YouTube.

During a hearing on the bill, Republican House Majority Leader Todd Gilbert questioned if, under Tran’s proposal, an a******n could be performed up until the moment of birth.

“Where it’s obvious that a woman is about to give birth. She has physical signs that she is about to give birth. Would that still be a point at which she could request an a******n if she was so-certified — she’s dilating,” he said.

“Mr. Chairman, that would be … a decision that the doctor, the physician and the woman would make at that point,” Tran replied.

“I understand that. I’m asking if your bill allows that,” Gilbert said.

“My bill would allow that, yes,” Tran replied.

Many took to Twitter to express outrage at Tran’s proposal.

“I made a mistake, and all I know to do is to admit it, tell the t***h, and let the chips fall where they may,” Adams said.

Adams said the scenario Gilbert described would classify as a “partial birth infanticide” that would be illegal under state law.

“This remains a crime and would not be something any sane licensed physician would perform,” Adams said. “The code is very specific and clear about what this means and it is different from an a******n, even late term.”

Gilbert is dishonest. The proposed law would leave all decisions with the doctor and patient. The fact that the doctor and/or the patient could violate a different law has nothing whatsoever to do with the proposed law.
