We’ve all heard kids or teenagers say this before, usually as a way to brush off something ridiculous they said. It goes like this: Say something foolish, then when people react to the dumb thing that was said, quickly pretend it was just a joke.

This is cute when a 10-year-old does it. By the time someone is approaching adulthood, however, it grows tiresome.
The reason, of course, is that we expect grown-ups to say what they mean and mean what they say — especially when dealing with serious topics that affect other people.

But it looks like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has more in common with immature 10-year-olds than serious adults.

After previously declaring that the world would end in 12 years unless we let socialists like her run the economy, the New York bartender-turned-congresswoman had a very lame follow-up: Just kidding.

Back in January, Ocasio-Cortez made waves after she declared, “the world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address c*****e c****e.”
She seemed deadly serious when she said it, even comparing it to World War II, but was roundly mocked for the absurdity of the statement.
Yet on Sunday, the Democratic lawmaker tried to reel that line back in using social media.

Complaining that conservatives fact-checked another one of her statements on income ine******y — how dare they! — Ocasio-Cortez implied that her “12 years” claim was just, like, sarcasm, or like, wh**ever.
“This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and ‘fact check’ it,” she wrote.

“Like the ‘world ending in 12 years’ thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “But the GOP is basically Dwight from The Office so who knows.”
T***slation: I didn’t really mean the world is going to end in 12 years, when I said the world is going to end in 12 years. You’re just a dumb-dumb if you thought me saying that into a microphone was meant to be serious.

It would be one thing if this were a comedian or, say, a satire outlet pointing out that they aren’t supposed to be taken literally.

But Ocasio-Cortez is a sitting congresswoman, elected to do a very serious job. Is she just now realizing that it isn’t a game?

And here’s the kicker: She repeated the “12 years” claim multiple times, and even called out people who thought it was a joke.
“We have 12 years left to cut emissions by at least 50 percent, if not more, and for everyone who wants to make a joke about that, you may laugh, but your grandkids will not,” Ocasio-Cortez said during a live stream in April.

“For those of you who are trying to mock and delay this moment, I mean, I just feel bad for you. I pity you for your role in history right now,” she continued.

Oh. Does that mean that she has the “social intelligence of a sea sponge?” Her words, not ours … but it would explain a few things.

It’s easy to laugh at her, but let’s get serious for a moment. When you get past the utter absurdity of Ocasio-Cortez’s nonsensical and contradictory statements, there’s a sobering conclusion about the congresswoman that should not be ignored.

She doesn’t think about anything she says, and is surprised when people take her at her word, because those words have all the weight of flatulence in the wind.

And why wouldn’t they? This is all new to her. Ocasio-Cortez has never had to make decisions that affect people’s lives.

A year ago she was a waitress in Queens, where meaningless banter with customers and a golly-gee smile helped get tips. And if she said something silly, she could just wink and go “just kidding.”
It’s the technique of a teenager. Pretend that every other thing you say is, like, totally sarcasm, and then weasel your way out if anybody ever tries to hold you to your words.

She just assumed it would work the same in Washington. But as “sea sponge” herself is quickly discovering, people tend to ask more questions when it’s their jobs and futures on the line — and hopefully, v**ers are catching on about the vapidness of Ocasio-Cortez.

She’s on a nonstop mission to DIVIDE this nation.

Black L***s M****r and other anti-Trump groups held a rally on the grounds of the Capitol on Tuesday to call for President Donald Trump to be censured for what he said about Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) controversial statement that “somebody did something” on 9-11.

People chanted ‘“Hands off Ilhan” and in a series of speeches blamed the president and Republicans for the rise of “w***e s*******y masked as white nationalism.”

Omar spoke at the event in praise of her homeland of Somalia and said the president and his Party are responsible for recent attacks on synagogues and mosques.

“At this moment, the occupant of the White House and his allies are doing everything that they can to distance themselves and misinform the public from the monsters that they created that is [sic] terrorizing the Jewish community and the Muslim community,” Omar said.

Omar said she is criticized because she is a Muslim woman.

“I also happen to be a refugee and immigrant from what they call one of the s**thole countries,” Omar said, mocking the president for his alleged comments about war-torn countries like Somalia that drive their people out.

“The reality is that s**thole country raised a very proud, dignified person,” Omar said. “Our circumstances may not always be perfect but that doesn’t lessen our humanity and I am not in the business of defending mine.”

Omar was not as complimentary of the United States.

“This is not going to be the country of the few,” Omar said. “This is the country of the many.”

“This is the country that was founded on the history of Native American genocide, on the backs of black s***es but also by immigrants,” Omar said.

No prison time for woman who tried to drown newborn in McDonald’s toilet

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — A 27-year-old Northern California woman won’t serve any time in prison for holding her newborn baby facedown in a toilet moments after giving birth at a McDonald’s restaurant restroom more than a year and a half ago, prosecutors said.

On Friday, San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Garratt placed Sarah Jane Lockner on four years of supervised probation. Lockner was also ordered to complete parenting classes.

Lockner was originally charged with attempted murder, but she pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of felony child endangerment on Jan. 14 after Garratt said she would consider imposing a sentence lighter than the four years she had previously offered.

According to prosecutors, Lockner gave birth to a baby boy while working as a cashier at the McDonald’s in Redwood City on Sept. 4, 2017.

Lockner went to the restroom several times with complaints of stomach pain. During one trip, a co-worker noticed blood on the floor, which Lockner reportedly dismissed as her having a “heavy period.”

A second co-worker who went to check on Locker during another visit looked over the stall and saw a newborn facedown in the toilet, with Lockner’s hand on his back, prosecutors said.

As the co-worker stepped down, she told investigators she heard the toilet flush.

Lockner reportedly told the co-worker not to call police, but the co-worker did anyway, and responding officers found the baby boy not breathing and without a pulse.

He was taken to a hospital and placed in a medically induced coma but has since recovered.

In an interview earlier this year, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said the child was living with his father’s aunt and meeting all his milestones.

The bathroom birth was the second for Lockner, who delivered a baby at home about five years ago, according to prosecutors.

I went to Arlington National Cemetery this month to visit the grave of Humayun Khan, the Muslim soldier k**led in Iraq whose father spoke at the Democratic Convention. I walked among four hundred thousand white marble headstones to Section 60, the fourteen-acre plot for the fatalities of America’s recent wars. Khan, a handsome man with penetrating eyes, died when a suicide bomber driving an orange taxi sped toward his base. He shouted “Hit the dirt!” to his men while he tried to stop it. The bomb detonated. Khan was twenty-seven. He was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. His grave-site locator is 7986. He is buried between Jeremiah Savage, who died in Iraq, and Robert Mogensen, who was k**led in Afghanistan—all three within seventeen days in May, 2004.

Khan’s headstone is not the only one at Arlington marked with a star and crescent. Nor are Muslims unusual in the U.S. military. Almost four thousand Muslims are now on active duty, Major Ben Sakrisson, a Pentagon spokesman, told me. Another two thousand are estimated to be reservists or in the National Guard. It’s not a new trend. Yusuf Ben Ali, an Arab of North African descent, was among the Muslims who served in George Washington’s Army. Muslims fought in the War of 1812 and the Civil War (on both sides).

Among the more than five thousand Muslims who fought for America in the First World War, the name Muhammad was so common that it was spelled forty-one ways in military records, according to Amir Muhammad, the author of “Muslim Veterans of American Wars” and the co-founder of the Islamic Heritage Museum, in Washington, D.C. These soldiers could trace their origins to Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, the Arabian Peninsula, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Persia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, and Yemen. Muslims also fought and died in the Second World War, Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, and Iraq. There are so many Muslim vets that the Muslim American Veterans Association is opening its twelfth regional post this month.
