I am not aware of any passes given to China by liberal Democrats. Personally, I believe that all this conservative banter about China to blame is way over the top. The medical advisers to President Trump have said that the v***s originated in a bat, not because of any action taken by a Chinese laboratory. Even if it did, it had to be an accident. Why blame the entire government and people of China?

Abused girl's father detained

A father and his cohabiting girlfriend suspected of abusing the man's four-year-old daughter have been detained by local police, the public security bureau in Jiansanjiang Reclamation Area, Heilongjiang province, said on Wednesday.

A notice published by the bureau said the suspects — a man surnamed Yu, 28, and a woman surnamed Qu, 30 — beat Yu's daughter at home over the past several months.

Local police received an emergency call reporting the child's severe injuries after she was sent to Jiansanjiang People's Hospital on April 23.

An examination found that the girl's head had been seriously injured, and she had minor injuries to her nose and skin, soft tissue and teeth, all caused by external force.

Police summoned Yu and Qu. According to the two suspects, they took the girl away from her grandparents' home in Huachuan county in the province on Jan 10.

Since then, Qu abused the girl in various ways, police said, such as beating with her fists, pouring hot water on her body and knocking her head against the wall. Qu was particularly unhappy with the child's naughty behavior and the fact that she was unable take care of herself, they said.

Early on April 23, Qu became angry when she found excrement in the child's diaper and knocked the girl's head against the door and wall repeatedly, the police said, causing the child's body to shake. Then Qu called Yu, who was working a night shift and they took the child to the hospital together.

According to the police, Yu admitted that he had also beaten the child with his hands, as well as with a USB cable and a broom, during the time they lived together.

The girl is in critial condition and has been t***sformed to a hospital in Harbin. The local prosecutor has launched an investigation.

Full of backward ass rednecks. The landscape? It is the 49th most scenic state (I've visited all 50). The weather? In much of the state, the wind blows 20-35 mph on a near daily basis. I am (unfortunately) quite familiar with the region of Texas you live in: Drabilene.... errr... I mean Abilene. The water in the lakes there is literally orange in color (only place I've ever seen orange lakes) and you get three weeks of spring and three weeks of fall. The rest is harsh, excessive summer heat and brutally cold winter - with the near constant 20-35 mph winds blowing all the while. Dude, I was born and raised in Texas so I feel qualified (and have the right) to express my assessment of it. If you like Texas, good. I don't. I thought I did when I was young, but that changed when I started traveling around the country and realized what a god-forsaken place Texas is. On that note, I've noticed that a great number of Texans who love Texas, haven't even been outside of the state. Visit some other states (except Oklahoma) man, and then tell me how "great" Texas is.

Opening the economy is a moral imperative

Here’s the harsh t***h. Regardless of what we do, many if not most Americans will get C****-**. The lockdowns, wh**ever one thinks of them, were never sold to us as a way to eradicate the disease. They were sold as a way to “flatten the curve” so that the medical system didn’t become overwhelmed, leading to *unnecessary* deaths. Eradicating the disease without a v*****e is a fantasy.
All of the evidence I’ve seen indicates that, for most if not all of the country, we are at low-risk for overwhelming the healthcare system. That’s particularly true if we continue to take intelligent *voluntary* measures like washing hands, social distancing, wearing masks, and avoiding mass gatherings. And if we continue to scale medical capacity for places hardest hit.
So what are the lockdowns achieving? Be very careful about answering that question based on your own experience. Do you still have a job? Can you work remotely? Do you have savings? Do you live in a nice house with heating, AC, TV, Internet, family members to keep you company? Do you have a husband or wife who can help homeschool the kids while you work?
I hope so. I hope that your life isn’t being destroyed by our response of indefinite lockdowns. But for tens of millions of Americans, the story is different. (It is for me.)
I’ve seen people trivializing their situation, as if they have no right to earn money and enjoy their lives because they aren’t healthcare workers.
Worse, I’ve seen people say that anyone who desires to return to work is essentially a k**ler who is callously indifferent to the people they may infect if they get sick. That is a moral outrage. *If you have ever had the flu, you probably have been indirectly responsible for someone’s death.* That is a fact about human beings: we t***smit diseases that have the potential to harm others.
(No, I’m not equating C****-** and the flu. Clearly C****-** is more dangerous. The issue here is moral responsibility.)
But here’s the thing. All of you who DO have jobs and savings and all the rest…we will reach a point if we don’t start to liberate the economy when all of that will go away. The U.S. literally cannot survive many more months of an economic freeze.
Do you remember how quickly the dominos fell in 2008? So far our financial system has been able to absorb the punches as business collapses. Do you think it can do that forever? Do think that the energy industry will be able to survive without credit? Do you think our food supply chain can survive without credit? How many people will die then?
We must open the economy as fast as we can. And we must do so while managing the disease as best we can. That includes selective isolation for the most vulnerable. (I have family members in this category…and, if it matters, they support re-opening the economy. They recognize that it would be immoral to demand that we sacrifice the whole country to reduce their odds of getting the disease.)
Re-open. As fast as possible. As smart as possible. That is the only moral, compassionate course of action.
The alternative is unthinkable.
