I have been saying we will see blood in the streets, thanks to Obumer and his importing of Syrian (supposedly) REFUGEES. I question how many are with ISIS? Along with those, and the ones that sneak across the border, and the Somalis who are already here. Lock and load your guns, the time has come for neighborhoods to be proactive in protecting one and other.

Nursing mothers, the elderly and infirmed, will suffer. Let us be in prayer, daily, asking for His mercy and guidance. We ask O Lord, set a fire in the hearts of Christians, awaken them. In Jesus name I ask. Amen

Facing God

Frontpage, by Danusha V. Goska, Nov. 11, 2015:

The Judeo-Christian tradition recognizes the individual, apart from the mob. That individual is invited to meet and talk, face to face and utterly spontaneously, with God, without interruption from any earthly authority. That encounter is the life spark of Western Civilization.

We define, and recognize, by contrasts. I learn much about Christian prayer and Christian monasticism by comparing them with their opposites. I think of Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” and what it says about my faith – specifically, what it says about the Judeo-Christian concept of God, of man, and of prayer. I think of how that artwork and its implications contrast with other belief systems: modern Atheism, ancient Paganism, and Islam.

Between 1508 and 1512, on the ceiling of the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo depicted the spark of life in the fingertip-to-fingertip, eye-contact encounter between one, loving, creator God and one human being – not a teeming mass – just one person. In Michelangelo’s fresco, we see Adam’s full naked form, from head to toe. God looks like Adam, and Adam looks like God. They are the same size. Every detail here matters – that Adam is just one man, that he is naked, that he is anatomically detailed, that he is the same size as God, that God and Adam are fundamentally structured the same, that Adam is making eye contact with God, that God looks upon Adam with fiercely attentive love – every detail here has an impact on the life anyone can live in a Judeo-Christian society.

Organized Christophobes and anti-Semites have targeted Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” for attack. They call themselves “The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.” They blather, “Oh, you Christians and Jews are so stupid; you think God is an old man in the sky with a long, white beard.” They insist that it doesn’t matter what story a society tells itself about its origins. They say that the Judeo-Christian God may as well be a monster made of spaghetti. They are ignorant and childish enough to believe that if we told ourselves that story, we’d be able to have the same society that we have now. They are wrong on every count.

“God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them”: Sofers, ancient Jewish scribes, committed these words to print in the book of Genesis thousands of years ago. Each individual person is the image of a loving God – “tzelem elohim” in Hebrew, “imago dei” in Latin. Michelangelo used the language at which he was fluent – his gift for accurately depicting anatomy and physiology – to communicate the essence of the relationship between the Judeo-Christian God and each individual person.

Adam and God meet face to face, eye to eye, in the Sistine Chapel fresco. Exodus 33:11 tells us that “The Lord spoke with Moses face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend.” Deuteronomy 5:4 tells us that “the Lord spoke to his people Israel” face to face as well. In Numbers 6:25, God blesses thus “The Lord let his face shine upon you.” The Bible repeatedly adjures us to seek God’s face. “When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek” Psalm 27:8. “Face to face:” this metonym has meant intimate connection – human and spiritual – for the past four thousand years. “To face” means “to meet.” The sixth amendment to the US Constitution guarantees the right to face one’s accuser. “Face” often means “dignity,” e.g. “To save face.” This is true not just of English, but of many languages. In Medieval Slavic languages, “without face” means “shame.” In China and other Asian cultures, face is reputation, honor, and dignity.

Adam is an individual, apart from a mob. The Talmud teaches that God created only one Adam, rather than a group of men at once, to emphasize the value of each, individual life. One man, in himself, is an entire universe. The Bible teaches: you matter. Not some ideal you. Not you as a cog in a big machine. You who you are, right now. You matter. The God who created the universe wants contact with you. Bring your moment-by-moment concerns to God. Suffering? Pray. Rejoicing? Pray. Sick? Pray. Worried about someone else? Pray. Anxious for yourself? Pray. (James 5 13-18, Philippians 4:6). David, Mary, and Jesus model candid, spontaneous prayer. David nags God in the Psalms, Mary spikes the ball in the Magnificat, and Jesus on the cross holds back nothing. No prayers are as poignant as the prayers of desperate women. Hannah is reprimanded for the intensity of her prayer – “Lady, are you drunk?” – and the woman with a hemorrhage prays her tentative, tiny prayer silently, “If only I can touch the hem of his garment.”

Crosswalk the Devotional

Abounding in Thanksgiving in a World of Grumbling
by Mike Pohlman

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7

My family and I just completed our first full week in our new home in Richmond, Virginia after leaving Los Angeles to begin my new job. And if I’m honest I cannot say I’ve been “abounding in thanksgiving” over the last several days. No. In fact, “abounding in grumbling” may be the more accurate phrase to describe my disposition of late. I’ve grumbled about the weather, traffic, leaves, the movers and a myriad of other things petty and not-so-petty. None of this grumbling, however, has been constructive or justified. And, most importantly, it’s been sinful.

To help combat this steady bombardment of grumbling I corralled our children the other night for a family time of thanksgiving. You’ve probably practiced this exercise many times as well: go from person-to-person and highlight things you’re thankful for (it’s tough to grumble when you pause to consider the many blessings in your life).

It took my nine-year-old Samuel some time to get warmed up, but eventually he offered a short list of things he’s thankful for, including our new church. Anna was next. What would our seven-year-old daughter express gratitude for? Her new neighbor friends across the street and the Bible. Good stuff. Finally it was John’s turn. He echoed his big brother on some things and agreed with Anna that the neighbors are great, and then with the zeal of most six-year-old boys who love sports, Johnny thanked God for his new basketball hoop out front (and proceeded to remind me of how he beat me in “21” over the weekend, 21 to 17). As Julia left to put our newborn down for the night, I shared with the kids several things I was thankful for. But it wasn't until the next day that I realized the inadequacy of my list.

While I voiced gratitude for God generally, I failed to highlight specific attributes of God that, when I consider them, cause me to “abound in thanksgiving.” Driving to work the next morning I found myself asking, “What is it about God that I am most grateful for?”

The one attribute of God that flooded my heart and mind was His providence—the fact that He orchestrates everything in my life for His glory and my good. It’s the promise of Romans 8:28: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”

In his helpful book, Respectable Sins: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate, Jerry Bridges applies Romans 8:28 to the sin of ingratitude. He counsels: “The meaning is that God causes all things to work together for good; for ‘things’—that is, circumstances—do not work together for good themselves. Rather, God directs the outcome of those circumstances for our good.” And what is the “good” God is working? Christlikeness. Indeed, all of our circumstances God uses as a means of our sanctification. I began to abound in thanksgiving as I visualized God as the great conductor over my circumstances, using them as an instrument for my growth in grace.

This Thanksgiving holiday I want me and my family to be “abounding in thanksgiving.” And for this to happen I know being thankful for God in a merely general sense will not suffice. We need to meditate on some particular glories of our great God—not least of which is His sweet providence over our lives. For this I am most grateful.

Intersecting Faith & Life: Take a moment this Thanksgiving and ask yourself, “What specific attribute of God am I grateful for?” Perhaps you’ll recall His love or mercy or grace or forgiveness or patience or wrath or providence. Challenge your mind to meditate on, and prayerfully consider, some particular glory of God as a means of abounding in thanksgiving

Prayer for 11/13/15

The early morning breezes sway through the treetops telling them secrets that they have seen. We hear their whispered voices, but cannot discern what they are saying. They speak to us though, but in a different language, sometimes soft, sometimes sharp, but always bringing us some message. The wind is a magical thing, it can blow from any direction, but usually continues in a westerly flow. How uplifting to walk in an open field and have the wind blow through your hair. I believe that it is the Lord's gentle touch, letting you know He is near.

As the day grows into afternoon, the wind picks up strength, sending the cotton ball clouds scudding across the sky. It blows the dry leaves over the grass like a group of children playing tag. Here and there still lie a colorful leaf that appears left out of the play. The murmur of the wind reverberates through the bare branches as it speeds across the sky, carrying its tune, how far we never know. The crispness, in the air, makes us zip up our jackets. Fall is here, we hope an Indian Summer day will follow. In due time, the Lord will let us know.

Fall is a bright colorful time, the color of the remaining leaves that flutter on the trees, fanciful yellow mums, contrast with the serious red poinsettias, with their dark green leaves. We look around and also see the dry and dying plants that have been taken away by the wind, and morning frosts. There is a warmth in the air with an edge of chill - what a contrast. Life and death in the same picture. For us, there is always life as long as we have Jesus in our hearts. This we pray in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Amen

I think that the people will answer that they would rather have the soldier. Maybe that has been our mistake in electing politicians instead of soldiers to run this country. Those that have sacrificed the most to protect this country should maybe be the ones running this country. They definitely have the most skin in the game.Maybe that should be a prerequisite to serving in the congress or senate is to have military service and preferably to have served in a war. That would change this gutless crowd of nobodies into a group of patriots.

Scarlett Johansson, Sexing Up The Bible Won’t Defeat Christianity

As a Christian, I don’t know if it’s good form to give tactical advice to those on the other side of the spiritual warfare battlefield. Since I don’t desire Christianity’s destruction, I probably shouldn’t offer any pointers for how to accomplish this to those want to raze the world’s sanctuaries and tango atop the rubble.

On the other hand, Jesus did promise that the gates of hell will not prevail against his church, so giving despisers of the faith a more effective strategy to accomplish a goal they’ll never accomplish is a bit of a sanctified brag, a holy boast in the Savior whose supposed weakness is infinitely stronger than the strength of his enemies. So, in response to Scarlett Johansson reading sections of the Bible in a “porn voice” on “Saturday Night Live” writer Mike O’Brien’s upcoming comedy album, let’s go with the other hand.

For Johansson, O’Brien, and those such as Ron Dicker of Huffington Post, who found this comedic collaboration to be delightful, I get it. You don’t like Christianity. You believe its teachings are a blight on progressive society, so you’ve selected humor as your weapon to erode its influence. “Let’s sexify sections of scripture to show Christians that what they hold to be sacred is foolish and should have no role in our world.” This seems to be your battle strategy.

The problem with this strategy, however, is that it doesn’t offer Christians anything of substance in place of what you’re trying to take away from them. True, cultural Christians who have no interest in suffering for the gospel may quickly run away from your bullets of mockery. But if you want to defeat the actual Christian soldiers who are marching off to war, you’ll have to convince them to join your ranks by showing them that you have something worth fighting for. As difficult as it may be to believe, the nothingness of sexual libertinism that you offer is not a suitable replacement for those who trust in the everything-ness of the gospel.

Sex Is a Lame Little God

By having Johansson mockingly moan the words of Moses, you seem to be saying to Christians, “You don’t get this kind of pornographic ecstasy on God’s battlefield, so come join our side and it’s all yours.” While this may be an enticing offer for those who have, since puberty, never worshipped anything other than their libidos, it’s not a terribly attractive option to those who already worship something of slightly higher worth, namely the God who created the heavens and the earth.

Those who serve the God who first served them by taking on human flesh won’t be persuaded when you say, “Okay, but wouldn’t you rather serve nothing but your own flesh instead?” Believers who find immeasurable joy in Christ’s forgiveness and therefore want to live according to his commandments won’t believe you when you promise them greater joy by living a lifestyle that everyone who’s ever had a promiscuous friend knows yields tons of regret and emptiness and nary an ounce of lasting happiness.

Those who rejoice to belong to a fellowship that transcends space and time, tribes and cultures, and unites heaven and earth together won’t trade a life overflowing with eternal meaning for a life of sexual libertinism that epitomizes meaninglessness.

Try This Instead, Scarlett Johansson

So for the O’Briens and Johanssons and everyone sympathetic to their cause, I know we’re on opposite sides of the spiritual battlefield, but let me offer you a better way. Instead of trying to defeat Christianity with nothing, try hacking away at God’s kingdom with something, anything that has some degree of substance.

If you want to mock the Bible, do it like the Koran does in Surah 4:157-158. It dismisses Jesus’s crucifixion in a way that essentially says, “Christians, let go of your weak God and follow Allah the powerful, who would never allow his prophets to suffer a shame like this.” If you want to tear down churches, at least invite people into the mosque you’ve built atop the cathedral’s ruins. If you want to take away the Christian’s deep, meaningful, and true set of beliefs, make sure you’re ready to give him another deep, meaningful, yet untrue set of beliefs in exchange.

As the Islamic conquests of Christian lands has shown, this is a pretty effective way to gain defectors from Christ’s ranks who “went out from us but were not of us,” as 1 John 2:19 puts it.

Or, if trading one religion for another doesn’t win your war (and if your life’s goal is, as it seems, unrestricted access to fornication, it probably won’t), try the nationalistic approach. If you want people to stop believing in the Almighty God, sell them on the Almighty State.

Like the c*******ts, convince them that a government free of Christian dogma and superstition is the only force that can solve humanity’s problems and end the world’s injustices. Tell those who want to be one with God that together as one we can be God himself. Offer citizens pledges of allegiance to the Invincible Government and, as history has shown, some of them might just hand over their Christian creeds.

Not to Say It Will Work

Granted, neither of these approaches will work. Even if you jihad with the best of them, you won’t actually triumph over any of God’s elect. And even if you give all glory and honor to the state, the state will eventually fail, spectacularly, at being God, and Christ will continue building his church atop the ashes of empires. Plus, the more you persecute the church, the more you’ll exacerbate your own defeat.

Even if you jihad with the best of them, you won’t actually triumph.
So no matter how you wage war against the Triune God, you’ll still lose. But if you adopt one of these strategies, at least you’ll lose respectably. At least you can say you offered Christians a powerless something instead of an utter nothing in exchange for the absolute everything that is God’s kingdom.

Aim higher than Mike O’Brien and Scarlett Johansson and, when you consider the war you waged against God, at least you can say you waged it with a higher level of maturity than what you’d find in a “Porky’s” movie.

A Republican candidate hasn't posted these kinds of numbers since Ronald Reagan ran against the left-wing President Jimmy Carter. Clearly, Trump's message is resonating with Americans from all walks of life.” You’ve heard of Reagan Democrats?.......

Pollsters from both SurveyUSA and Rasmussen recently released surveys that appear to have GOP maverick Donald Trump not only winning the Republican nomination, but beating a woman he claims he will investigate and if necessary prosecute, Hillary Clinton.

Trump told his supporters that former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will face serious criminal charges if he wins the presidency and appoints the nation's top cop -- the attorney general. Speaking at a rally in Illinois, Trump accused Clinton of criminal activities stemming from her handling of emails and classified material while at the State Department. Trump flat-out said that Mrs. Clinton committed a "crime."

In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. — Romans 8:37

Thoughts on Today's Verse....

Are we really conquerors despite "trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword"? Yes! That is the ultimate Christian assurance. Nothing can separate us from God's love in Christ. The Evil One and his allies can k**l our bodies, ruin our finances, wrack our bodies with pain, and seek to destroy our relationships. However, the Evil One cannot have our hearts when they are surrendered to Jesus. And when our hearts belong to Jesus, so does our future! The empty tomb of Jesus assures us that our future with him is glorious, victorious, and unending.

My Prayer...

Give me eyes to see, O God, and a heart to believe that Jesus' victory over death is my victory, too! I don't want to be derailed from my hope, faith, and love by the difficulties of life. Instead, I want to be a living testimony to your power, victory, and grace. In Jesus' name, and for his glory, I live and pray. Amen.
