War is Not Law Enforcement
By: Civis Americanus

The Hamas apologists who now infest Ivy League and other campuses either do not know, or willfully choose to ignore, the fact that war is not a law enforcement activity whose purpose is to punish the guilty and spare the innocent. If we look at the history of warfare, their complaints about civilian losses in Gaza are disinformation and dissimulation, with no other identifiable purpose than to protect Hamas from the consequences of its actions. The same goes for the bleating from António Guterres, UNRWA, and the International Court of Justice. They are nothing more than our era’s counterparts of Axis Sally, Tokyo Rose, and Lord Haw-Haw.

This does not mean that it is ever acceptable to target genuine noncombatants, and Israel bends over backward to avoid hitting them. Even enemy combatants in most wars, however, are guilty of nothing more than wearing the wrong color uniform. Patriotism, being conscripted, and joining an army because one has no other prospects are not crimes that deserve any punishment, although the end result can be the same fate that countries with capital punishment reserve for only the worst murderers. For every Ted Bundy who is executed for serial murders, or Charles Manson who dies of old age in prison for slaughtering innocent people, thousands of combatants are shot or blown up for no other reason than their service to the wrong (as perceived by the other side) government.

“The Man He K**led” by Thomas Hardy made this clear during an era in which few people joined armies out of patriotism. An army was instead often the only alternative to debtor’s prison, starvation, or the workhouse, as the poem makes clear.

Had he and I but met
By some old ancient inn,
We should have sat us down to wet
Right many a nipperkin!

But ranged as infantry,
And staring face to face,
I shot at him as he at me,
And k**led him in his place.

In “The Rochester Recruiting Sergeant” by Pete and Chris Coe, which is set to the same music as “Waltzing Matilda,” a recruiting sergeant tries to get men to join Queen Anne’s army. Nobody with a trade will join, but one laments, “Ah, but I had long endured the parish queues [bread lines]” and takes the Queen’s Shilling. The Thirty-Third Regiment of Foot was meanwhile known as the Havercakes because recruiting sergeants would hold up oat cakes on their swords to entice hungry men into the ranks. This scene from Sharpe’s Regiment, starring Sean Bean and Daragh O’Malley, shows how it was often done.

In Erich Maria Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front, the protagonist knifes to death an enemy soldier who jumped into a trench (or shell hole) with him. He then opens the man’s wallet, not to rob him, but out of curiosity, and sees photographs of the man’s family along with his civilian occupation. He realizes he has k**led somebody’s husband and somebody’s father, and for no other reason than the fact that their respective governments told them to be where they were.

German and English soldiers celebrated Christmas together in 1914, and even exchanged gifts.

Ordinary human beings have no desire to k**l other human beings. Even during the Second World War, when Germany was ruled by one of the most evil regimes ever known, the ordinary German soldier was there only because he was told to be there (or else). The war criminals who ran the concentration camps were, in fact, as far from the front lines as they could get.

We have seen so far, then, that even the vast majority of enemy combatants, much less civilians, are not evil people. They die or suffer wounds and/or privation solely because of their governments’ choices, and not because of anything they did personally. War is a quarrel between nations, and not a law enforcement process to identify the guilty and exonerate the innocent.

Hamas Is Guilty

The current war between Israel and Hamas is in fact an exception to everything I just wrote. The vast majority of the combatants who died in the Second World War, even on the Axis side, were ordinary people who would have otherwise returned to their families and civilian occupations to contribute to their societies. Terrorists who disguise themselves as civilians, commit a mass shooting at a peace concert, slaughter people in their own homes, gang-rape women, and burn babies in ovens are war criminals who deserve to be k**led wholesale. The world is better off without them, and Israel is simply taking out the world’s trash.

Another analogy consists of the eradication of cancer, which almost always involves collateral damage to healthy tissue. Surgeons must remove the margins of a tumor in case they contain malignant cells. Chemotherapy destroys growing cells wholesale (this is why cancer cells suffer the most from it), which is why patients suffer nausea from intestinal damage along with hair loss. There is no “nice” way to remove cancer, but cancer will k**l the patient if it is permitted to survive. One does not have ceasefires or peace treaties with cancer because this just gives it a chance to recover and metastasize.

If Hamas is cancer, though, the Israeli Defense Forces are the best oncologists. Who else could use the equivalent, in terms of everything but radioactivity, of 120 Hiroshima-class bombs for only 34,000 fatalities, including those at whom the weapons were aimed?

22,000 Unintended Fatalities from 120 Hiroshimas

Al Jazeera, which is no friend of Israel, stipulates that Israel has k**led 34,000 Gazans (including the 12,000 or so Hamas terrorists it intended to k**l) with 75,000 tons of explosives. If we assume that all were one-ton charges, Israel has deployed the destructive power of more than 120 Hiroshima-class bombs to k**l less than half the number k**led by only one such weapon in August 1945. This reinforces the proposition that Israel is wielding violence with almost superhuman precision against terrorists who are often menaces to peaceful Gazans as well as Israelis. It is also to be noted that collateral losses among noncombatants, while regrettable, were less than two for every terrorist despite the terrorists’ use of the noncombatants as human shields.

How did I get 120 Hiroshima-class bombs at 15 kilotons from 75 kilotons of explosives? While the destructive volume of an explosive is directly proportional to the amount present, volume is meaningful only if the target (like an aircraft or submarine) is in a three-dimensional environment. If the environment is only two-dimensional, much of the blast goes upward to endanger only birds and aircraft that happen to be in the area. The damage area is proportional to the two-thirds root of the explosive power. A one-ton (0.001 kiloton) bomb is therefore 0.01 equivalent kiloton, and 75,000 add up to 750 equivalent kilotons. The Hiroshima bomb, at 15 kilotons, did as much area damage as about 6.1 one-kiloton bombs dropped separately. Seven hundred fifty divided by 6.1 is more than 120.

In summary, then, the difference between the war in Gaza and traditional wars is twofold. Unlike legal combatants of all nations who carry their arms openly, follow the rules of war, and do not use civilians as human shields, Hamas consists solely of terrorists who deserve death. In addition, even though Hamas does its best to use noncombatants as human shields, Israel has done close to a superhuman job of excising the terrorists with minimal harm to their human surroundings.

These terrorist sympathizers fail to recognize that multiple times Israel established paths for Gazans to leave, to allow food into Gaza, as well as continuing to supply fresh water into Gaza.

The citizens of Gaza have, and continue, to support a designated terror organization. They have chosen. Actions have consequences.

Have none of these moronic, lumpen individuals not noticed not a single country in the Middle East desires refugees from Gaza. Did these benighted imbeciles not notice Egypt immediately placed troops and a wall on their border? Simply stated, Gazans are undesirable to the Middle East.It is by their choice they are in this situation.

MSNBC Wants Trump Assassinated

ERICK-WOODS ERICKSON
MAY 1

There have been two mass political assassination attempts in the United States in the past decade. Both would-be assassins were MSNBC viewers. Floyd Lee Corkins attempted the mass murder of employees of the Christian group Family Research Council. James Hodgkinson attempted the mass murder of members of Congress. They were both progressives. They both imbibed the histrionics of the mouthpieces at MSNBC.

Democrats tell us words matter but seem to exempt themselves from it.

College protests of progressive students have turned violent even as Joy Reid lectures anyone who will listen to the fabulist that the protests are normal, peaceful, and democratic. She will not mention the Jewish students blocked from accessing buildings. She will not mention the antisemitic slurs.

At the University of Wisconsin, progressive protestors have started chanting, “Heil Hitler,” which the fine folks at MSNBC insist is something only rightwingers would say.
At Columbia, they chanted about a Palestine from river to sea, which is an explicitly genocidal call for the elimination of Jews and Israel. That chant has been pretty widespread.

At UCLA, pro-Hamas protestors blocked Jewish students from parts of campus.
But Joy Reid won’t discuss that. She will discuss Donald Trump as a unique and existential threat to democracy.

Nichole Wallace wants MSNBC viewers to know that if Donald Trump wins the e******n in November, he might take her show off the air. She could be censored by Trump. The other night, talking about the White House Correspondents Dinner, Wallace opined, “Behind the levity, though, there was something darker, a darker undercurrent, if you will, and a point that the president had to make. And it was more profoundly serious. Because at this exact time next year, depending what happens in November, seven months from now, we can’t say for certain that there would even be a White House Correspondents’ Dinner or even a free press or even a White House press corps. Right? You don’t have to have one. Could be another norm Trump blows up. The stakes of the 2024 e******n were a living, breathing subplot of this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. It came up in the jokes, came up in the inherent contrast between President Joe Biden, there in the room, and the c**p-plotting, openly autocratic modeling of himself, Donald Trump, who wants to replace him.”

Joy Reid, last night, had on Robert Kagan, an editor at the terrorist propaganda outlet Washington Post, who responded to Reid’s list of a parade of horribles Donald Trump might unleash on America and claimed,

Well, he was right, I don’t know if it was the end of the interview, but the end of your quotation, when he was asked what he does think about violating the Constitution, et cetera, and calling yourself a dictator for a day. He said the people like it. I think that’s a very important point that we are not focusing enough on. This isn’t just about Donald Trump. He does have a very powerful, very mobilized constituency that is fundamentally seeking to o*******w the fundamental liberal system that the Founders created. They oppose it, they oppose it because they think that their view of the nation, they have an ethno relicious definition of the nation. For them, the nation is a white Christian, for some, a white protestant nation. This is an old strain in American history, after all. This didn’t just pop up. It’s just what’s happened now is these people have always been around, they were part of the John birch society, part of the McCarthy movement. They were in the south in the s***e years, in the south during the Jim Crow years, but now for the first time, certainly in many decades, they have taken control of one of the political parties, and they have a leader who is essentially determined to destroy the system for his own purposes, but what they see is the opportunity to change the system in a way that is more to their liking and therefore not consistent with what the Founders intended.

The network regularly has Michael Beschloss claiming Trump, if re-elected, would become a dictator and refuse to give up power, so Trump must be stopped. They have amplified Hillary Clinton’s claims that Trump will target, arrest, and maybe even k**l his opponents. They are now openly claiming Donald Trump intends to “o*******w the fundamental liberal system that the Founders created.”

Two men were inspired by the depraved hysterics of the women at MSNBC to attempt the mass assassination of conservatives.

If the people at Fox News regularly engaged in this discourse, both Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy would cover it nonstop and denounce Fox News’s subtle calls for the assassination of whichever Democrats they went on about.

Donald Trump does not have the unique ability to drive people to violence. MSNBC hosts have already driven two men to attempt mass assassination. Now, their extremist rhetoric at a time progressive activists have already turned violent, is just increasing the temperature.

Before attempting to k**l Republican congressmen, James Hodgkinson wrote what sounds like MSNBC talking points on social media. He wrote, “Trump is a T*****r. Trump Has Destroyed our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.” Hodgkinson noted that MSNBC’s Rachael Maddow was “one of my favorite TV shows.”

According to the Secret Sevice, Hodgkinson, “[o]penly shared his anti-Republican views with friends, family, and others; attended protests; wrote letters to his local paper expressing discontent with economic ine******y and taxes; never made a threat.”

From 2008 to 2012, Hodgkinson also wrote at least 27 letters to his local newspaper, the Belleville News-Democrat, most of which discussed his desire to increase the number of tax brackets. Other letters discussed the economy and economic ine******y. Two of his letters promoted legalizing marijuana so that it could be a source of tax revenue for the government. One letter from 2011 expressed admiration for protesters in the Occupy Wall Street movement and complained about “our do-nothing Congress doing nothing while our country is going down the tubes.” That same year, he was at an Occupy Wall Street protest near his hometown and told a television news reporter that “the 99% are getting pushed around and the 1% are just not giving a damn.” The local newspaper reported at the time that Hodgkinson was part of a group of the “99 percent” who hoped to bring awareness to the political and financial power he believed were controlled by the top 1 percent of wage earners in the United States.

Sounds like some of the current protestors.

Comcast has chosen to offer its viewers subtle assassination fan fiction. The network that has insisted words matter and that people can be driven to violence through others’ words is increasingly dialing up the hysteria as Trump’s poll numbers go up. They would never admit it, but we can acknowledge the network really hopes Trump eats a bullet.

They can deny it. But a network that parades daily the terribles of a future Trump Administration and how he must be stopped because he is a unique existential threat will have to forgive us if we do not believe them.

Words carry weight. Words uttered at MSNBC inspired the attempted mass assassination of Republican members of Congress. Knowing they have that power, you’d think they would be more responsible unless that’s what they want.

What is worse there are people right here on OPP like American Scene, Milosia, PeterS, and a multitude of others who would LITERALLY be on here celebrating, laughing joyously if Trump was assassinated. They would hope the assassin was never caught and if caught, was pardoned for the assassination.

Joseph Biden is the worst Président in the history of this country, yet if he were assassinated, conservatives would be horrified. We would not be celebrating.

The fact is those I mentioned, in the first paragraph, fervently wish for Trump to be assassinated, when conservatives simply wish to see the end of Biden as Presiden through the e******n.

Your judgement, on who and how they would behave, if he were assassinated, is absolutely correct!

Iranian University Offers U.S. College Student Protesters Scholarships
Karen Townsend| May 01, 2024

The world is watching as useful i***ts for Hamas demonstrate on American college campuses.

Our enemies are loving it. The demonstrators are chanting "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" on U.S. soil. Ignorant young people are declaring themselves as Hamas, the internationally recognized terror group, a proxy of Iran.

Shiraz University in Iran offers scholarships to American students who have been expelled.

None will take the university up on its offer, of course. The protesters in America are brainwashed college students who have been indoctrinated by far-left professors. The professors are joining in with the students on many campuses. Outside professional agitators are infiltrating the protests.

This is a well-financed effort that is funded by dark money groups, people of the far left who support the destruction of America as we know it. It is spreading around the country, not fading away. One protest ends and another pops up on a different campus.

Shiraz University is happy to welcome American professors, too.

Mohammad Moazzeni, head of Shiraz University in the southern region of Fars, extended his proposal to those protesting Israel's actions in its war against Hamas, following clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement across America.

He said: "Students and even professors who have been expelled or threatened with expulsion can continue their studies at Shiraz University and I think that other universities in Shiraz as well as Fars Province are also prepared [to provide the conditions]," he said, according to Irainian state-owned outlet Press TV.

While American students cosplay terrorists, the rest of the world waits and watches. Does the president, the leader of the free world, have anything to say on the topic? Is Biden secretly hoping that Israel loses its war against Hamas so Muslim Arab Americans in Dearborn, Michigan will v**e for his re-e******n in November?

I'm old enough to remember when silence meant complicity.

What the useful i***ts on college campuses don't understand is that they would be targeted for death under the Iranian regime. Student uprisings are not allowed. The "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement began in September 2022, after the death of a 22-year-old college student, Mahsa Amini. She was arrested and beaten by the morality police for improperly wearing her hijab in public. She later died in jail from her injuries.

Seeing signs at American protests that read "Q***rs for Palestine" makes me cringe. Gay Iranians are thrown off buildings.

There is no such thing as free speech in Iran. There is no personal freedom at all. It is worse for women and girls. College protesters who align themselves with Hamas are aligning themselves with Iran.

accused Western police of "autocratic methods" and said they had demonstrated "a lot of violence in order to contain this raging movement and have even threatened to expel the students from universities and hinder their employment in the future," Press TV reported.

The agency added that Moazzeni was "announcing Shiraz University's decision to offer scholarships to students expelled from European and American universities."

Shiraz University, which Newsweek has contacted for further comment, was formerly known as Pahlavi University. Established in 1946, it is one of the Islamic republic's most prestigious universities and is listed among its top three research-oriented schools.

Please accept these scholarships and learn lessons that may not be what you anticipated. Even better, at long last, the FBI will take notice of you. You can then join the terror watch list.

Governments Could Stop Inflating If They Wanted. But They Won’t.
By: Daniel Lacalle

Price inflation is no coincidence. It is a policy. Governments, along with their so-called experts, attempt to persuade you that price inflation stems from anything other than the consistent, albeit slower, rise in aggregate prices year after year. Issuing more currency than the private sector demands, thus eroding its purchasing power and creating a constant annual t***sfer of wealth from real wages and deposit savings to the government.

Oil prices are not a cause of inflation but a consequence. Prices increase as more units of the currency used to denominate the commodity shift to relatively scarce assets. Therefore, oil prices do not cause inflation; they are one of the signals of currency debasement. Furthermore, if oil prices caused inflation, we would go from inflation to deflation quickly, not from elevated inflation to slower price increases.

The same goes for all the causes that governments and their agents try to use as an excuse for rising prices. Most are just manifestations, not causes of inflation. Even if the global economy were dominated by three evil and stupid oligopolistic businesses, they would not be able to increase aggregate prices and maintain an annual increase if the quantity of currency in the system were to remain equal. Why? Two things would happen. First, those three monopolistic evil corporations would see their working capital soar because citizens would not have enough units of currency to pay for all they produce. Two, the rest of the prices would decline as there would be a significantly lower number of units of currency to purchase other goods and services.

Even a group of quasi-monopolistic corporations cannot make all prices rise in unison and consolidate the annual level, only to continue rising. However, the monopolistic issuer of the currency, the government, can make all prices rise while at the same time diminishing the purchasing power of the units of state debt that they issue.

It is surprising to see how some so-called experts say that a few large corporations make all prices rise but deny that the state that monopolizes the creation of money is the cause of price inflation.

Governments are at the root of rising prices. While banks can generate money—credit—through lending, they rely on projects and investments to support these loans. Banks cannot create money to bail themselves out. No financial entity would go bankrupt then. In fact, banks’ largest asset imbalance comes from lending at rates below the cost of risk and having government loans and bonds as “no-risk” investments, two things that are imposed by regulation, law, and central bank planning. Meanwhile, the state does issue more currency to disguise its fiscal imbalances and bail itself out, using regulation, legislation, and coercion to impose the use of its own form of money.

Monopolies cannot simply drive up prices unless they are able to force consumers to use their products without any decline in demand. We also must understand that destructive and inefficient monopolies can only exist if the state imposes them. In any other situation, those monopolies disappear due to competition, technology, and cheaper imports from other nations. So, which is the only monopoly that can force consumers to use their product regardless of the real demand for it? Government fiat money.

The government is the largest economic agent and therefore the most important driver of aggregate demand, as well as the issuer of currency. The government can end today’s high price-inflation rates any time by eliminating the unnecessary spending that causes the deficit, which is the same as money printing. Taxing the private sector to cut price inflation is like starving the children to make the fat parent lose weight.

If Senator Warren and President Biden were right and corporations were to blame for rising inflation, competition, cheaper imports, and a decline in demand, they would have taken care of their unjustified prices. Only the government can cause and perpetuate inflation, using the central bank as its financial arm and regulation as the imposition of the state’s IOU (currency) as the “lowest-risk asset” in banks’ assets. The government creates the currency and imposes it, and when its purchasing power declines, it blames the economic agents that are forced to use its form of money.

MMT defenders and neo-Keynesians say that the government can issue all the currency that they need and that their limit is not fiscal (deficit and debt) but price inflation. It makes no sense because price inflation is the manifestation of an unsustainable fiscal problem, reflected in the vanishing confidence in the currency issuer. It is, literally, like a giant corporation issuing debt endlessly and thinking nothing matters. It is a subterfuge to implement the constant increase in size of government in the economy, knowing that once it controls a large part, it is virtually impossible to stop the state.

Stephanie Kelton and others say the government should spend all it wants and, if price inflation rises, tax the excessive money away. This is funny. So, the government increases size on the way in, spending and diluting the purchasing power of the private sector’s earnings and savings, and then taxes the private sector, thus increasing the size of government on the way out. Furthermore, there is no government that would recognize that price inflation comes from spending too much, so the destruction of the private sector continues and the diminishing confidence in the currency extends, as history has proven numerous times.

Governments cannot tax away the price inflation they have created by bloating spending. They can only weaken the private productive sector further and worsen the economic situation and the price inflation outlook.

There is no such thing as perennial monetary sovereignty. Like any form of debt, currency demand disappears with the government’s solvency and the economic weakness of the private sector consumed by taxes. Once the government destroys confidence in the currency as a reserve of value, the private sector will find some other way to make t***sactions outside of the imposition of a state-issued currency.

When governments present themselves as the solution to price inflation with large spending programs and subsidies, they are only printing more money, like putting out a fire with gasoline.

Biden says the government has a plan to cut price inflation, but all they have done is perpetuate it, making citizens poorer and the productive sector weaker.

If Biden wants to cut price inflation, all he must do is eliminate the deficit by cutting expenditures. The reason why governments should never oversee monetary policy and be allowed to monetize all deficits is because no administration will cut its size to defend citizens’ wages because nationalization by monetary inflation and taxes is the goal of interventionism: to create a dependent and hostage economy.
